When do you guys think that FM jumped the shark?

When Urkel flew through the Winslows Roof with a space suit on and landed in the Lambert's backyard on Step by Step which was based in another city.

When Steve's parents moved away and he moved in with the Winslows

I also think it jumped when Urkel moved in with the Winslows.

I thought it jumped the shark when the show was moved from ABC to CBS.

I think it Jumped the Shark much earlier in the series than when Steve Moved in with the Winslows. I'd have to say the show jumped the shark After the 4th season or even during the 4th season in some cases. It was in Season 5 they had that more upbeat sounding music, Rachael was gone, Myra was an established charachter, Judy was gone, Grandma Winslow had gotten married and moved out and wasn't there as much, Also it seems like Since Urkel had myra, this is when his chasing after Laura started to tone down just a little bit.

I agree with this, but I had picked when Urkel moved in because the show just went off the deep end at that point. Your points about season 5 are very valid but at least the show was still somewhat realistic (exceptions of the two Stephan episodes) but after that the show just became too unrealistic and like you said Judy and Rachel were gone, Mother Winslow and Richie were not on as much and Myra became a central character.

As much as I love FM it has had quite a few jump the shark moments-for just about every JTS category, sometimes twice:
exit stage left(Rachel), new kid in town(Myra), same character, different actress(Harriette), puberty(Urkel), exit stage left(Waldo), new kid in town(3J), network switch(ABC to CBS), focusing way too much on Steve and not that much on the family towards the last few years, too many disappearing characters(Judy, Weasal, Lt. Murtaugh, Waldo)

Another shark moment in my opinion:

Recycling the same plot (Carl in the Doghouse)

It seems like in the later seasons Carl always said something to upset Harriette and he was always in the doghouse. Then they make up at the end with "I love you Mrs. Winslow" and "I love you Mr Winslow" This got so old.

also, Hair Care(Laura) and Singing(We Are A Family) and (Do The Urkel!)-I really didn't have a problem with these songs, but some people on JTS didn't like The Urkel Dance.

It also jumped several times with all of those inventions: The Urkelbot, the transformation chamber, the cloning device, making one clone into Stefan, the teleporter, and the time travel machine. Those Sci-Fi episodes certainly took away from what was supposed to be a normal sitcom.

When they had Steve Ukrle play all them different characters, Stephan, Mertle, and his bad cousin from Detriot, yes he also had a bad cousin from Detriot as did the Winslows. The cousin called Steve whewn he was learning the ropes of a space ship before going into outer space, the cousin was staying with the Winslows.

Also when it because a show about Steve and Laura almost every episode, and then it because Myra obsessed with Steve and hardly anything about the Winslows.

Also I have to agree with them science things Steve kept inventing. You always knew after inventing it he get Carl to try it out or he would try it out at the Winslows and it would always blow up.

Like the huge vaccum he made and used it in the kitchen, or the vaccum bagpipes, or the radio toothbrush, or the super glue and glued his hand to Laura, or when he was accused of blowing up the sceince lab at school, when they found out someone else did it they dismissed the case but never charged the other person from blowing it up.

Was nice the first season when Steve only made guest apperances and focused more on the Winslows.

You know it's funny, people have such different feelings about Laura and Steve getting together. Some people were glad to finally see Laura with Steve after he had been chasing her for all those yrs, and some people thought it was a terrible idea. I'm kind of on the fence with that one.

I just don't think it was a logical move to put them together so quickly. It's like he drops the suspenders and suddenly Laura forgets that she hates him. But as I stated in another thread recently, there were so many horrible things about Laura in seasons 8 and 9 that I didn't really expect much else.

It kind of reminds me of Joanie and Chachi on HD, remember how she couldn't stand him, then they start going, out fall in love and get married.

Me personally I did not like when Steve and Laura got together. I always enjoyed Steve and Laura's platonic relationship and liked watching it grow as time went on. Remember that episode where she missed Steve because he was going out with Myra so much? She could not understand why she missed him so much and Rachel pointed out that somewhere when she was not looking that she and Steve became friends. When Steve and Laura got together it seemed forced to me and it did not seem right. They had a better chemistry when they were just friends.

It was kind of strange the way it happened, I mean in the season 9 premiere he says he's going to try a new look, the only thing he did different was take off his suspenders, then all of a sudden she falls in love with him.

GCW

Yeah it did not make any sense. It is not like Steve's personality changed all he did was get rid of the suspenders and he was trying different looks throughout the season and suudenly she is so in love with him.

It's funny watching the early eps, where Steve always talks about wanting to marry Laura, little did she know, they actually would get married.

Yeah and there were even times when Laura would say "there will never ever be anything between us" or "I will never ever go out with you"

That was just a way of her saying "I will always love you!"

In the end of one eps I remember Laura saying "You're right Steve, anything's possible." then Steve said "Will you marry me?" and Laura said "Except for that." Well she was wrong.

HAHA! I agree!

And didn't they do that lame rap song? It was called "The Winslow Rap" or something.
I remember Rachel coming close to the camera, and then singing -- "We better thank our lucky stars we're together!" **GAG**!
Oh, and the granny did a break dance, I think! HEH!

I Do (Mother Winslow and Fletcher) - and I only put this because after that it gave Mother Winslow even less attention and screen time.

And how many same character/different actors did they have? Harriette-Jo Marie Payton/Judyann Elder, Judy-Valerie Jones/Jaimme Foxworth, and Fletcher-3 different guys(I don't know there names).

The one I remember was Whitman Mayo aka Grady from Sanford and Son.

I thought Laura's "beauty" was highly overrated, she was not hardly that cute, but Steve was obsessed with her, and of all her friends, she always ended up with the cutest boyfriends all the boys wanted her. Myra was ten times better looking and far sweeter than Laura, who wore wayyyy to much makeup. I think Myra should have ended up with Steve. I have always wondered why they made it seem like Laura was the best looking girl on the show.

It "Jumped Shark" with the first episode of Season 2, by promoting Steve as a Series Regular, and it was definately for the better.

As far as the later seasons go, I never really thought the show "Jumped the Shark". Instead, I thought it evolved, as all shows should, IMO. I personally love the last season, and wish there was a 10th. :)

It never jumped for me, but Season 9 was the worst by far. It had several bad episodes (any with Myrtle) and only a few good ones. I'm not suprised that Season 9 was below average because it was CBS running the show and not ABC. Bar maybe Raymond, CBS has not had a good sitcom since The Jeffersons ended 21 years ago. I still wish there had been a Season 10 though because Steve and Laura should have had their wedding and all that stuff.
