So I'm surfing the web, trying to find stuff about good ol' Roj, and by association Bill Daily, and I start seeing a pattern.
Some sites say Bill Daily played a pilot on the Bob Newhart Show, some say he played a navigator (which he did.)
And I kept seeing references to Tony, of course, being an astronaut, but got wondering... Was Roger actually an astronaut?
Some sites said he was at NASA as a test pilot.
Others said he was an astronaut AND a test pilot.
So I do a google on that, and lo and behold, I find his "official" NASA profile (http://www.astronautix.com/astros/healey.htm).
Read it, it's awesome. I'm adjusting it a wee bit to fit in with my SG-1/IDoJ Crossover fanfic, but that link is to the unadulterated version. Incorporates information from the subsequent movies.
Here's one quote from it: "Although Healey hoped to make a shuttle flight, a controversy in the early 1980's led to him being reduced in rank to Captain. He was to fly as a mission specialist on the 'all Army' STS-71-P flight, but this was canceled after the Challenger disaster. Healey remained listed as an active astronaut, and managed to rise again to the rank of Colonel prior to his retirement in 1991, but was never selected for another shuttle crew."
As for rank, it mentions he'd been reduced in rank to Captain?? What happened with that? Was all that just in the movie or movies?
Well, be that as it may, he's a Major in my fanfic, but now I'm thinking he's going to be promoted, probably within the next few months. He's been a Major for just WAY too long!
If some IDoJ fanatic/aficionado can tell me what happened with Roger's and Tony's ranks over the series and movies, that'd be cool. I try to remain as faithfully as I can to the canon of both series (well, there's a bit of poetic license involved), but sadly, the only series I know inside, outside and upside down is original Star Trek.
