View Full Version : Anyone remember this story?

I was watching some old NBC aired segments recently that I received in a trade. Right after the story of the man who climbed on the airplane then fell to his death was a special alert that I didn't remember seeing before. It was about a young woman, they guessed 18-25 yrs old. She had apparently been hit by a hit and run driver and was found lying on the side of the road. She survived but seemed unable to communicate and they were looking for her family. Just the way the girl looked in the segment, was heartbreaking. They referred to her as "Estelle". Does anyone remember this one or happen to know if there was ever an update? Thanks!

I remember that segment it aired right after I graduated from high school in 1992. But I have never seen an update or seen the segment aired on lifetime. I hope they found her family.

Was this the segment where they found a disoriented woman wandering around dangerously in a high traffic area after she had been released? That seems to be all I remember about this based on your description.

It was a very brief "Special Alert" type but I think she was found unconscious by the road. They said she suffered severe head injuries and as of yet wasn't able to communicate. They really didn't say what her prognosis was (i.e. if she would eventually recover her ability to speak) but did say she seemed to be improving. I don't think this ever aired on Lifetime which makes me wonder if (hopefully) someone called in the night of the broadcast who knew her. They also showed a composite sketch of what she would have looked like before her accident.

Crystaldawn, did you ever hear anything else about either of these cases? Someone has got to know who "Estelle" really is....

No unfortunately I can't find anything online about "Estelle". I always hoped someone from that area would see this and maybe know if she had been identified. She looked so sweet when they showed her but her condition was so sad....she seemed so childlike.

As far as the case of the man who jumped on the airplane and fell to his death, he was identified. Here's an article about him:

I just saw this one, recently. My thought on the matter is that it's been like 16 years, now, maybe she's actually recovered enough to regain some memory? Or someone recognized her, even? It sucks that so many of the segments were not properly updated. Cosgrove needs to go through and update all that can be updated and release the episodes on a season by season basis. Because that'll happen

I only saw the Estelle story once, but I always wondered about the outcome of the case. I can't find anything online about her but did anyone ever see an update about her?

It's sad what happened to her and even sadder no one knew who she was.

It seems there was never an update anywhere about her. It's pretty sad...

That really is sad. I was hoping there would be something. I can hope they did find out who she was.

I just watched this special alert...Found an article from 9/30/92 that says she was indentified as Nancy Sue McDonald
