Predicting The Skeds: Part 5 - UPN
Well, at least UPN no longer stands for Underpaid Negroes. The network that used to be thought of as little more than black comedy, wrestling and Trekkies is getting some critical acclaim, but little in the way of viewers. Maybe will find a hit in their lineup and some success with the scheduled addition of Sundays.

Already In: "America's Next Top Model", "Veronica Mars",

99.9% Chance It's In: "Girlfriends", "WWE Smackdown!", "Half and Half", "Cuts"

Decent Shot at Renewal: "One on One", "Eve", "All of Us"

On the Bubble: "Kevin Hill", "The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliot"

Not a Chance: "Star Trek: Enterprise"

Sunday:

7:00 WWE Smackdown! (Encores)
9:00 Everybody Hates Chris (New Series)
9:30 The Show with A.J. Calloway (New Series)

UPN is scheduled to go on Sundays as of this Fall, and may I say it's about time. Expect either new WWE material or an encore of Thursday "Smackdown" to lead-in these two comedies, one narrated by Chris Rock, and another with BET host A.J. Calloway (And both without a laugh track, mind you). This should build a foundation here. Now, if UPN doesn't go to Sunday, expect one of these shows to land on Monday.

Monday:
8:00 All of Us
8:30 Eve
9:00 Girlfriends
9:30 One on One

"Us" and "Eve" were lambasted on Tuesdays, and with big names at the helm, expect the wasteland Monday 8PM hour to go to them.

Tuesday:
8:00 Half and Half (New Time)
8:30 Cuts (New Time)
9:00 Veronica Mars

These comedies were solid this seemed to be solid this season, and will be thrown to the "American Idol" dogs on Tuesday. As for "Mars", I think it's a safe bet for renewal. However, "Kevin Hill" is, well, not so much.

Wednesday:
8:00 America's Next Top Model
9:00 South Beach (New Series)

Expect J. Lo's new produced series to get the Post "Top Model" slot on Wednesdays.

Thursday:
8:00 WWE Smackdown!
If UPN doesn't get to crazy at the negotiating table, this is still UPN's top show.

Friday:
8:00 Wildlife (New Series)
9:00 Top Model Encores

So, with "Trek" gone, what do you do with this slot? Perhaps the breezy, Hollywood backdrop of "Wildlife", a dramedy from the writers of "Friends", "Two and a Half Men" and "Keen Eddie". Remember, the creators of "Arrested Development" and "Desperate Housewives" came from "The Golden Girls" so don't judge a writer by his resume.

Smackdown's contract doesn't end until 2006 so it's safe to put it in the Already In Category, even if they weren't going to renew it why chose not to show it if they already paid for it?

It seems all but certain that Smackdown will move to cable when the deal with UPN expires. It is more valuable to a cable channel than a over the air channel.

One on One or Cuts will be cancelled over any of the others.
