The alphabet had an unprecedented turn around last season with the help of new series "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost", which have parlayed into big audiences for "Alias", "Boston Legal" and "Grey's Anatomy". Also, returning hits like "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "According to Jim" posted nice gains if not staying solid. But ABC is still far from perfect, and we'll try and figure out their holes here.

Already Renewed: "Monday Night Football", "Desperate Housewives", "Lost", "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", "Alias", "Boston Legal

(NOTE: All series with a backslash in between mean they will share the timeslot this season.)

AFHV, EMHE, and the Housewives were HUGE last season, so expect those to stick. "Chief" has Geena Davis as the 1st Female President, which seems like a perfect fit.

Monday:

9:00 Monday Night Football

This is the only thing that might ever work with MNF, which will likely relocate to ESPN after this season.

Tuesday:
8:00 8 Simple Rules
8:30 Joint Custody (New Series)
9:00 According to Jim
9:30 Rodney
10:00 Blind Justice/Boston Legal

I think moving "Rules" back to 8:00 would help, and "Custody" would most certainly fit right in. It's not like anything will get big ratings against "Idol" anyway. As for "Justice", I think the alphabet will give it another try, same with "Legal".

Wednesday:
8:00 Lost
9:00 Eyes/The Catch (New Series)
10:00 Wife Swap/Alias

I think that "The Catch" is destined to catch on, pardon the pun. Greg Grunberg is going to be a big star. As for "Alias", the "Non-Stop Season" will be gangbusters again, and "Swap" is a terrific place-holder. "Eyes" and "The Catch" should also share a timeslot nicely.

Thursday:
8:00 Jake in Progress
8:30 Untitled Chris Kattan Project (New Series)
9:00 Extreme Makeover
10:00 20/20

I think, despite middling numbers, ABC knows it can't do better that what "Jake" is doing. Kattan's comedy is single camera, therefore it should be a decent fit. "20/20", I think, will move, and you'll see why at "Friday".

Friday:
8:00 The George Lopez Show
8:30 Untitled Peter Dinklage Project (New Series)
9:00 Hope & Faith
9:30 Red & Blue (New Series)
10:00 Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition (New Series)

Unfortunately, I don't think "Perfect" will survive. However, these 2 new comedies fit the tone perfectly, with one about a high school, and one about a GOP Grandpa and Democrat dad who disagree about the next generation. As for "EM: WE" I think it's either this, or Monday's at midseason.

Yea I think so too. ABC needs a veteran show to go against SVU. It won't win the time slot but it can be competitive.

I've read that Soccer Moms may be passed on now that a companion for DH has been found. It didn't sound serious enough to air in the 10:00 timeslot anyways. Maybe Tuesdays at 8, if ABC is indeed cutting back on comedy.

I just hope that Desperate Housewives, Soccer Moms and Westside have good slots. DH will, of course. I don't think they'll even think of moving it around the schedule anywhere. SM will probably air after DH, but I'd prefer WS to be on after the Housewives.

Failing ER? ER's in the top 10 this season and is doing better this season than
past few seasons. It's NBC's only true hit on Thurs.

I'm not Pav... but I don't expect Eyes to be back either, and Blind Justice is probably gone as well. If they do come back, it would likely be for half a season or something like that.

I doubt both Rules and LTP come back... and LTP is getting the lower ratings, so I think it's gone.

I'm concerned about 8SR... but think it'll ultimately return. It may not though... if ABC cuts back on comedies, then it could.

I just don't see ABC putting Gray's Anatomy on Thursdays at 10 against ER and Without A Trace. That would be taking a risk with one of their big hits. Then again ABC has never handled success very well.

I want it on Tuesdays at 10pm. I think it has a great chance to unseed L&O: SVU. But I have a feeling ABC will try it Thursdays at 10pm, which is risky because Without a Trace is also on then, let alone ER. ER is dropping, but WAT is not.

Do you really think ABC will go with four sitcoms on Thursdays ? Right now Jake In Progress (which is not a bad show) is getting killed in the ratings on Thursdays. It is losing big time to repeats of Joey and Will and Grace. I am not even so sure they will put on 2 sitcoms on Thursdays, let alone four.

They've tried dramas/reality on Thursdays for the last 2-3 seasons, and they have not worked. I think a 4 sitcom night will be ideal, since NBC is not doing it anymore. Joey or Will & Grace will be on the move to Tuesdays next fall, who knows NBC might not even have a comedy hour on Thursdays next fall.

I'm hoping that they'll put Westside is the post DH slot on Sundays.

I think they'll give Eyes another shot because for it's first two airings it has retained most of Alias' viewers so that is a good thing, right?

I really don't think that Soccer Moms will get picked up (at least I hope not) doesn't sound appealing at all to me.

Grey's Anatomy might stay or be moved to Thursdays at 10. Boston Legal will get moved to Tuesdays at 10.

If ABC plays their cards right they could have a hit with Thursday nights. It's not that hard all they have for competition is CBS the rest of the networks are lagging on Thursdays too right?

Aside from "According to Jim" and "Hope & Faith" -- I see ABC bringing back 8SR, LTP, and "George Lopez"

And then the last three will be out of there, unless they find some strange surge in ratings. They'll keep them for one more season each, so they can qualify for syndication.

In a "normal" year I would agree with you on renewing these shows for syndication. However, since the big hit success of Desperate Housewives, Lost, and now Grey's Anatomy I think this network will be more agressive, and be more willing to cancel a current show while it looks for the next hit.

I hope I am wrong, because I love 8SR, but I think it, and some of the other ABC sitcoms are facing the axe.

Their really is nothing we can do but wait and see. I've had a lot of my favorite shows canceled over the years and some were killed right in their prime.

If Less Than Perfect returned over 8 Simple Rules I would stop watching ABC completely as a boycott. That would be absolutely ridculous. 8 SR has higher ratings than LTP, and it is in a worse time slot. LTP never holds the audience from Hope and Faith, while 8SR has almost the same ratings as 8SR. Personally, I still don't understand why Hope and Faith has been renewed already, and 8SR is so on the fence. They both have virtually the same ratings, considering the earlier timeslot. I think it must be the network playing favorites, because of Kelly Ripa.

Does anyone think LTP would be renewed over 8SR ?

Unfortunately, I fear they will both be cancelled.

ABC doesn't take boycotts seriously, boycotts do nothing if you don't have a Neilsen box.

I haven't seen it posted anywhere that 8SR gets higher ratings than LTP, I think they do about the same, and I read somewhere that 8SR ratings have dropped quite a bit this season.

Hopefully they'll both come back, I like both shows :)

But sitcoms aren't "in" right now.... if they're going to air them, they might as well air ones that will make them money in syndication. Even without the greatest ratings, they can make up for that money through syndication deals.

I agree, I was thinking about that the other day, it makes no sense for them to cancel shows that are already on the canvas, and bring in shows that will probably bomb in it's first few weeks. They don't have alot of sitcoms, so they're smart to keep they're longer running ones on the air at least another season

Those are not sitcoms, has no effect on 8SR.

8 Simple Rules scores higher than LTP. LTP loses over 2 million from Hope & Faith. 8 Simple Rules hour does almost the same as H&F. If one veteran comedy is gone, it will be LTP. I think the other vets will be back, but My Wife & Kids might be iffy.

Well, of course it has dropped. Moving from Tues. to Fri, is a big change. Friday is not a high profile night, like Tuesday. Not counting the John Ritter episodes and Goodbye episode from last season, 8 Simple Rules is only down slightly from last season. The show is like 1% down from what George Lopez did in this slot last season.

LTP after According to Jim? I don't see that happening at ALL. It's Fridays or bust for LTP. Unless ABC tries a burn-off Saturday sitcom night.

That is correct. All of ABC Fridays is doing HORRIBLE in the ratings... but 8SR and Hope and Faith beat out LTP in the ratings.

Last night:

8 Simple Rules 3.9/7(including the 2nd repeat) Hope and Faith 4.2/7, Less Than Perfect 3.6/6.

April 1st:

8 Simple Rules 4.1, Hope and Faith 4.2, LTP 3.8

LTP is consistently in the High 3's while 8SR/H&F are consistently around a 4(give or take a ratings point or two).

In all seriousness, ABC should scrap all of their sitcoms because none of them are performing well overall. The only things working on ABC right now are Lost and Desperate Housewives. Syndication nowadays only works for shows that have had somewhat of a strong history. Shows like Friends and Seinfeld come to mind. Shows like 8SR who have been struggling for awhile and are kept alive only for the sole purpose of a syndication deal flounder.

According to Jim is still one of the top rated sitcoms on network TV. DH and Lost are not the only ABC hits. ABC has found another hit in Grey's Anatomy. Boston Legal has also shined, as has Alias (not since AI, though).

ABC will beat NBC in total viewers and adults 18-49 this season. Probably 2nd in viewers behind CBS and 3rd in adults behind the Super Bowl/AI inflated FOX, and CBS.

The 8pm episode scored in the 4's. 8:30 encore was in the high 3's, but still beat LTP. Now that the weather is getting warmer again and dyalight savings has returned, we won't see the 5.5-5.6 ratings we saw for 8SR and H&F in January and Feb.

I wouldn't be so quick to call the midseason replacement Grey's anatomy a hit just yet. It's too early. What exactly does According to Jim get that makes it a hit I'm curious.

Grey not a hit? Name one show that built on its pilot ratings the very next episode? Not even DH or Lost did that. Grey did a 10.0 rating for its pilot, and a 11.4 the very next episode--increase of 2 million viewers (16.2 to 18.2).

According to Jim is in the top 30 when it airs new episodes. It shows how much Joey stinks. ATJ is in its 4th season and still nearly beats Joey.

Like I said, it is waaaay too early to call Grey a hit. As for Jim being in the top 30, when someone says the top 30, it usually means it's at the bottom of the the top 30. Top 5 is impressive, not top 30. It's sort of underwhelming.

It's not too early. ABC has already extended its run from 4 episodes to 8 or 9. Well, Jim is a sitcom hit, because besides Raymond and Two and a Half Men, there is no sitcoms in the top 20. After that we have Joey, Jim and Will & Grace.

You do have a point... :confused: Hope and Faith has the easier timeslot too... more people are home with it now not dark til later.

That is sad... they just aren't making sitcoms as good as they used to. All the ones that will be around this Fall are medicore at best.

Overall, ABC has more slots to fill than I thought. I think Grey's Anatomy should go to another night (Thursdays or even Wednesdays). I didn't put Blind Justice (which seems like it might not come back) or Eyes (more likely to return than Blind Justice) on the schedule yet. I think Wednesdays at 10Pm will definitely be a key spot because a lot of the dramas could easily fit onto that night.

I think either MW&K or LTP will return. I can see one or the other. ABC, I think, would be crazy to get rid of both. Of course, knowing ABC... We'll see about that one. I think MW&K could get at least a little boost on Friday's. To me, it would seem to fit better there.

The thing that bothers me about ABC so much is why is Hope & Faith so safe (and Kelly Ripa said already renewed) when 8SR gets the same ratings, and is in so much trouble for renewal ? Also, 8SR is only one year away from syndication, and Hope & Faith is two years away. With those ratings Hope & Faith will barely make it through one more year let alone, two.

Can someone explain to me why 8SR is on everyone's "bubble" list and facing the axe, yet Hope & Faith is so safe ? When you take into account the difference between the time periods the ratings are about the same.

Because you keep listening to people saying shows are on the bubble. They all said the same thing last year for both 8 Simple Rules and Less Than Perfect, and both returned. Life with Bonnie was on the bubble, too, but that was gone.

So I guess on the bubble means exactly that. On the bubble. In other words, the show may or may not return. The part I don't like is that Hope & Faith is such a surety to return, when it has basically the same ratings as 8SR.

The show I notice everyone seems to leave off their projected lineup that I think still has a decent chance is Rodney. When it was removed from the schedule for a few weeks in February everyone assumed it was dead, but lately I have seen tons of promos on ABC for Rodney. Last Thursday and Friday I saw promos for Rodney, and during Desperate Housewives they had a promo for According to Jim, and Rodney together. In the past they always promoted According to Jim and not Rodney at all. I think the past couple of weeks Rodney has mainted over 90% of the audience from According to Jim, and the network seems to have renewed interest in this show.

I think the fall schedule could look very different than a lot of people think if Rodney is still on the schedule.

Rodney Carrington. I think he is a comedian doing a sitcom. I don't watch this show, but something tells me the network is taking a second look at this show.

It's a comedy that airs on Tuesdays at 9:30pm... I've never watched it(Amazing Race is on), and the only current comedy I have any interest in is 8 Simple Rules... sad but true.

I think this tells us My Wife and Kids, George Lopez and of course According to Jim are all renewed. ABC's upfront is scheduled for May 17 and the season finales of these shows are the same date. I don't think ABC would cancel a show like My Wife at Kids in the morning and show the season finale the same night.

I see a lot of people have left out My Wife at Kids from their predicted schedules. So that is probably is not correct, and will throw things off.

well, IMO DH is a better series, but I can understand the 2 hour Lost sendoff, it is more "epic" feel than DH is. Plus, DH has a lot of storylines that can last for several seasons, Lost generally seems to be much slower-paced and the season finale will be a lot more revealing.

Plus, considering ABC extended the seasons run by one episode, in a way you could just count that as a 2 hour finale since we were supposed to only get 22 episodes and wound up with 23.

I remember you saying about one hour season finales. None of ABC's sitcoms have one hour finales this year. Hope & Faith is only 30 min. And those 40 min finales are still TBD and not for sure.

That is true. I guess they changed the schedule. The thing I still don't like is that all the ABC sitcoms have their season finales in the May sweeps period except for 8 Simple Rules, Less Than Perfect and Rodney. I still think that kinds of gives us a clue as to what the network is thinking as far as renewals.

Lost is getting 24 episodes(the Finale I'm assuming counts as 1 episode)... plus the special recap. DH is getting 23 plus the recap thing.

I know a lot of people don't wanna face it, but I think 8SR is gone. It died the minute John Ritter left the earth, and it has been floundering since, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go, because it's current ratings are so bad compared to how it was the first season. People watched the show for John Ritter, not Peg Bundy, nor David Spade, or anyone else. It was brave to carry on without John, but it has yet to establish an identity as anything besides "John Ritter's last show" and if it ends, it'll still be well-remembered and loved for that alone, but as of what the show is present-day, it's declined pretty far.

I have thought for quite some time that 8SR is in big trouble as far as renewal. The ratings are just going down and down. A lot of people here think it will get renewed in order to get a 4th season for syndication. I do think the 31 John Ritter episodes would be huge in syndication. I really hope it is renewed. Time will tell what will happen.

I already did explain it. TV writers/analysts don't know what they are talking about, that's what. As long as ABC knows, I'm not going to worry what people say.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Just in case, I sent this little ratings excerpt to ABC. They should put 8 Simple Rules on at 9:30 after Hope and Faith next year. Not only would it do better than Less Than Perfect, but I think it might build upon the Hope and Faith lead in.

And as for the promos, you noticed that My Wife & Kids and George Lopez are having very limited promos. According to Jim, Rodney, 8 Simple Rules and Hope & Faith seem to be getting tons of promos now. 8 Simple Rules had promos tonight during EVERY half hour. Hmm, I didn't see one SINGLE one for the LTP finale.

Yeah, I watched George Lopez and According to Jim and saw a promo during each show for 8 Simple Rules. I must admit, I had a smile on my face when I saw it. They usually do not promo 8SR this early in the week. I really hope all the promos help this week.

8 Simple Rules will be promoted during each show tomorrow night, too. And on Thursday and Friday all day -- including each daytime show. And Less than Perfect -- just during the 8:30 and 9pm airings of TGIF, lol. Tell me the last time you saw a My Wife & Kids promo.

To be quite honest I have not seen a My Wife and Kids promo or a George Lopez promo since they had the all night of 40 minute episodes for the three sitcoms in February.

George Lopez confirmed in the NY Daily News today that his show has already been renewed. (See below) That ABC sitcom schedule is getting awfully filled already with shows such as Hope and Faith, and now George Lopez, and of course According to Jim already coming back.

ABC officials haven't said anything official, but George Lopez said yesterday he's been given the word that his self-named comedy will be back next season.
"I don't see the show not being on the air," Lopez said. "We've already gotten the unofficial word."

Lopez, who will become the first person to say "Gentleman, start your engines" in Spanish at a NASCAR race this Sunday on Fox, next season will also bring a change in the "George Lopez Show" - namely more of him.

"The first year was our best year," he said. "That's when I invested most of my time writing the show. I'm going back in the writing room this summer."

Lopez admits the program lost a step creatively when he stopped being active in the writing process.

"In the first season, the stories were about my real life, about the things that happened to me, and there was a lot of peril, and a lot of real situations between a mother, and a son, and a father," he said.

Not being so involved was a byproduct of the show's success. As it has grown, he's been in more demand to do other things.

So far this season, "The George Lopez" show is averaging 7.6 million viewers, up a tick from the 7.4 million average last season. While the ratings aren't spectacular, "George Lopez" airs against Fox's juggernaut "American Idol."

An ABC spokeswoman did not return a call for comment on the show's future yesterday.

But Lopez, having starred in 80 episodes and needing another eight or so for reruns to be sold to stations around the country, is rededicating himself to the series.

"There's no other show that's had a Mexican-American lead that's so successful," he said. "I realize I have something so special."

Desperate Housewives and Soccer Moms are way too similar, I don't see that happening.. they will not move Grey's Anatomy, it's too big of a hit already.. moving it to Thursdays or Tuesdays would be a MAJOR mistake.

But Lost and Soccer Moms are two completely different shows. I think ABC would want two and two to go together (i.e- Lost/Alias or Desperate Housewives/Soccer Moms)

I think by moving Boston Legal and Grey's Anatomy to other nights will attract the viewers to those nights and make those nights for ABC a hit.

I hope that ABC decides to keep Eyes and put it in a good time slot. Keep it at Wednesdays at 10 PM. (So it can actually get an audience! You can't expect to attract an audience with terrible promotion and keeping it on the air for only a few weeks.....)

I hope they pick up Hot Properties too. I've heard good things about it and it looks good (judging from the cast picture) and it sounds actually funny. Entertainment Weekly commented on Hot Properties (in the latest issue) and said that it could be the next big sitcom hit! :cool:

I don't see why people are predicting that Westside (or isn't it called Sold now?) will go on Wednesdays at 10 PM. It sounds very different then Lost or Alias.

Yeah that's true, but they had a bonafide hit with Boston Legal on Sundays, and it would be good to try it on another night, but I have a bad feeling Grey's Anatomy won't last if moved from Sunday's, to me it seems like a "riding on the coattails" hit(that's what people called shows that were hits after Friends).

I think Eyes is basically gone, I read this at the Home Theater Forum:

ABC was quite upfront in their lack of desire to promote the show not produced by Disney. As if that wasn't bad enough, the network actually got perturbed that Tim Daly was going out and promoting the show.

Why reality? Yes, Wife Swap started off well, but look what happened to that later in the season. It was getting similar ratings to Eyes.

If ABC wants to try a drama there, then a J.J. Abrams drama would work (assuming 8-10pm is J.J. hours too), or SOLD (AKA: Westside). Soccer Moms even would work there. A drama that is very different to Law & Order and CSI: NY would work I think. Reality shows would die off later in the year in that slot.

I initially thought Soccer Moms would go after DH... but since I've seen what a hit Grey's has become, I say keep it there. Boston Legal goes to Tuesdays at 10... Soccer Moms goes to Thursdays... if it flops, then they could always have a tryout after Housewives(for a few weeks) and then decide what they want to do.

If Grey's is such a hit then they should move it to another day of the week? Do you think it can be an anchor for another show? How about Boston Legal and Grey's together on Thursdays?

Part of me does... but Thursday is TOUGH!! CBS's powerhouse will kill anything. Plus... why fix what isn't broken? ABC has SO MANY other spots to fill.

To be honest, I can't decide whether ABC should go aggressive and put all new shows on Thursday or if they should surrender and settle for last yet again, because I just don't know if comedies(which I doubt, look at how terrible Jake did) or dramas will do much better.

The one timeslot on Thursday that might work is 8:00 because NBC seems to be going down in that timeslot more as each week goes.

ABC needs to give it more time to solidify it's success, instead of having a few good weeks and moving it. This has killed shows in the past. Plus, Grey's works much better after DH than Boston Legal did IMO. I was a huge Ally McBeal fan, but the mood and time for a show like that is gone IMO. Greys has the making of a potentially great show if ABC doesn't screw with it.

Greys has only been on for 6 weeks, it's not enough time for it to yet be an anchor show. If it had been on the entire season and posted the same type of ratings all year, then maybe you'd have a point, but it's too soon. Remember some of the NBC shows? Suddenly Susan was HUGE on Thursday nights, but NBC moved it to a lesser night after just one season and it didn't retain it's audience. Caroline In The City also met the same fate.

Why reality? Yes, Wife Swap started off well, but look what happened to that later in the season. It was getting similar ratings to Eyes.

ABC hurt Wife Swap when they did "Boss Swap" and "Vacation Swap". Variants of a show like that do not work... FOX's Nanny 911 dropped last week after FOX did a "Marriage 911" special and it drug the whole night down.

This is why ABC putting on EM: Wedding Edition tonight is a HUGE risk that probably will not pay off(fortunately and hopefully it's a one-time only thing). It's the same way ABC killed the Millionaire franchise... people got tired of seeing it and stopped watching it.

If Wedding Edition becomes a fixture on the Fall or Mid-Season schedule, then Extreme Makeover needs to go. To have 3 hours with different variants will kill the entire franchise and ABC can't afford that right now.

I will say this... I would like to see Grey's when it doesn't have an audience of 25 million as a lead-in. It has followed new episodes of DH... and I just wonder if next season when DH has to be pre-empted or repeated(like we've seen so many times this season) how Grey's will do. Boston Legal fell significantly that week that the Jake preview and a DH repeat were it's lead-in.

Word that "Commander In Chief" has been officially picked up for next season.

Based on this thread alone, it seems that ABC's fall schedule is garnering the most interest. Hopefully, they'll have good news shows (like this year) and not bad ones (like previous years).

I'm for keeping Grey's Anatomy on Sunday at 10pm. It's too young and has too much potential to move it out now. It's almost increased its ratings in adults 18-49 every week it's been on the air, starting out with a 7.2 rating and increasing to a 8.7 last night, holding on to 76% of its lead-in (better than Without a Trace or House, which follow CSI and American Idol, respectively). So far it's drawn a 7.2, 7.9, 7.7, 8.0, 8.1, 8.5, 8.7. It's almost unprecedented for new series to show almost consecutive increases like that right off the bat- even "DH" only increased every episode for its first 6, and then declined a bit. It's retention rates (in adults) have been: 67, 74, 69, 74. 80 (DH recap), 73, 76%. I think that next season it will do even better, assuming that the competition doesn't change (and it's not likely that it will).

If this happened, ABC Sunday nights would be the prime-time drama equivilent of NBC Thursday nights circa 84-86 and the mid 90's or ABC Tuesday nights in the late 70's.

Yeah, but I know what will be there for sure on Fridays, The best TGIF on ABC with AFHV with former H2 Hollywood Squares host Tom Bergeron, 8 simple Rules and Hope & Faith. That is the best lineup they have ever since Family Matters and Step by Step were off ABC's schedule being bumped to CBS in 1997. The other stuff that I really like back then prior to the end of the 1999-2000 season was Boy Meets World and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. They were part of ABC's TGIF until that time! :) :D But personally, 8 simple Rules is still a mega smash hit for ABC and I wish to see the show out on DVD, especially the one's with the late John Ritter!

Blind Justice is gone... the ratings were terrible and the premise got old very rapidly.

That doesn't suprise me, NYPD Blue ended it's run with dignity this past March and Blind Justice is like that ripoff from that Ben Affleck film Dare Devil.

Personally IMHO, I will be happy to see my still favorite That '70s Show and Will & Grace when it starts their cable runs on FX and Lifetime this fall. Those shows deserve their credit since for '70s it will join the off-net shows, King of the Hill and Fear Factor and W&G will join their linup along with their off-net shows The Nanny and Mad about You. But I would like to see seasons 1-5 of both shows. They IMO were the best seasons hands down.

Actually I watch FOX on Sundays especially with the fct King of the Hill is tethering on the ice right now and with Malcom also headed for the farm after next season, I think that I like to see DH at 9 PM since I got myself a Tivo for that program. But I really would like to see DH turn in a new direction. A much interesting direction since it is the next best thing to the already gone Sex & The City.

The reason Millionaire "plummeted" was because it was on 4-5 times a week... it got old. I started off watching it and then it was airing so much I couldn't keep up and then eventually just stopped all together.

ABC was desperate back then... actually, they are now, they just aren't as obvious about it.

Wedding Edition did REALLY bad... worse than Supernanny would have done. Good job ABC, you have likely permanmently hurt that slot even more. :rolleyes: VARIANTS DO NOT WORK!!!

"CSI: Miami" completed the CBS sweep at 10 p.m. with a 12.9/20. "Medium," 8.5/13, was second for NBC, and ABC's special "Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition" came in at 4.1/7.

BTW: I watched(waiting for the Sunday promos to be shown, call me addicted or whatever) and it was bad. Of course... they had to play up the problems and make everything seem worse than it really was. Did anyone buy the "The wedding may not happen" garbage? Come on... It's a show ABOUT A WEDDING, of course it's gonna happen or ABC wouldn't be showing it.

What a waste.

I'll tell you guys I am totally confused on what's going on with ABC and the sitcoms. I keep trying to figure out what they are telling us. They are bringing back 8SR, but yet also LTP. Now they are not bringing back Rodney. They also are bringing back Complete Savages for 4 burnoff episodes then 8SR goes back to two episodes a week. Maybe someone here smarter than me can figure it out, and tell me what all this means. :lol:

I think they should put According to Jim at 8PM on Tuesdays. They MIGHT keep 8 Simple Rules just so it can reach the syndication line.

Unless they're desperate for non-White shows, I dont see My Wife and Kids coming back next season. From what I've seen this season, they should either do a new season WITHOUT Franklin, or else it doesnt deserve to come back at all.

In time, ABC will also have to level off of their reality series. If anything, they should move Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to Thursdays.

ABC appears poised to make some major scheduling moves next season now that network brass have picked up a slew of new comedy and drama series. The network also has renewed a handful of shows that were thought to be on the fence, including comedies "Jake in Progress," "Less Than Perfect" and "Rodney" and unscripted hours "Wife Swap" and "Supernanny," sources said.

How in the world could they possibly renew Rodney, Jake, LTP and not 8SR ? This has to be the most ridiculous thing I ever heard a network do. LTP has much lower ratings than 8SR. How can this possibly be ?

Broadcasting & Cable is reporting the same thing. Rodney, LTP, and Jake all coming back, 8SR probably gone.

However, a reminder, NOTHING Is official yet.

If that is the case I refuse to watch another ABC show. They have got to be kidding. How can they renew LTP over 8SR ? That is the most ridiculous renewal decision I ever heard of.

Shocking is putting it mildy. I cannot believe it. LTP has been given up for dead for months. It only had 22 episodes and was preempted a lot, and the network even ran loads of promos for 8SR the past few weeks of their season and none for LTP. How can they possibly do this ? I am stunned like I have never been stunned in TV land before. 8SR would also be much bigger in syndication. How can the network possibly do this ?

Whats even more shocking for me is Rodney. I thought that show was dead a long time ago.

That one surprise me too, but at least the ratings were higher. I know it had a plum time slot after Jim, but okay at least it had higher ratings. But renewing LTP over 8SR is just lunacy. I just cannot believe they could renew a show that had lower ratings than 8SR in a better time slot. I even remember them ordering two extra episodes of 8SR and none of LTP. I guess they have the right to do what they want, but I am just shocked, stunned and any other adjective you can find.

It's shocking to me too, but I'm not in here knocking your show. I did see promos for LTP the week of it's finale. 8SR could still be renewed, that list just might not have had it

I saw promos for 8SR every day and almost every hour and LTP had a few promos. Look, I am sure if you are a LTP fan you are very happy, and you should be. Personally, I am stunned that they would renew that show over 8SR. I really would be lying if I said it any different.

The Bachelor was just renewed for mid-season. Wife Swap and Supernanny will be back in some form. Less Than Perfect, Jake in Progress, Rodney, Hope & Faith, According to Jim, and George Lopez are the returning sitcoms. Complete Savages, My Wife & Kids, 8 Simple Rules, Eyes, Blind Justice seem to not be coming back.

Still no rough schedule, w/o that, it is tough to say still.

JIP is renewed? THAT's shocking. With the quantity of sitcoms ABC (potentially) has, it's going to open another night, probably Thursday. Or it could be preparing for the departure of MNF, and will schedule sitcoms on Monday in January with CBS possibly springing a leak from 8-9pm.

LTP is a destined classic. It's a shame that more people don't watch. It could have been a huge hit after "Friends" in the late 90s over on NBC.

Maybe it'll see an emmy nom for Rue this season? Not likely, but the emmy's will be wide open with Friends/Frasier/SITC gone, W&G being in the toilet and Joey a joke. There's going to be alot of opportunities for oft-overlooked sitcoms to get nods this year. The only three series with best comedy locked up are ELR, DH and Arrested Development.

I've only seen one episode of LTP. I'll wait for it to go into syndication and maybe I'll get into it. Its hard to join a show this late into its run.

Its going to be harder for the emmys to nominate best comedy with so few hit sitcoms anymore. Going into next season Two And A Half Men will be the only top 20 sitcom on.

Its never been this bad.

I think the previous worst year was in 1983-84 right before TCS premiered. Even then it wasn't this bad. Their needs to be a breakout hit fast.

Of course, ABC's fall schedule is far from definite. Look at NBC. There was a rough copy that Pavanbadal posted and the actual schedule veered quite differently from the rough copy. Sure, it was a rough copy, but there were still some surprises.

I'm still having a hard time realizing ABC is actually going to have 10-12 on the fall lineup? WOW. I have a feeling four sitcoms will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Of course, one of those nights could have just 2 and leave the other two for mid-season.

We'll see what happens. Things aren't looking that great for 8 Simple Rules but there is still a glimmer of hope I suppose.

If there are indeed 12, then I think Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8-10 will be all sitcoms. My guess is IF that happens AFV stays Sundays at 7, and Supernanny/Wife Swap air on Mondays at mid-season. That's the only thing I can figure out... unless ABC will air Supernanny Mondays at 8(nip the FOX ripoff in the behind) and then bring in Wife Swap mid-season, or air them both on Saturdays, those are the only options.

Yeah, that's what they should do. I think this show should do well with the beleaguered dads who watch "MNF" (while ABC still has "MNF"). Also, it would, roughly speaking, keep its current time slot on the West Coast. "Nanny 911" looks like it's starting to fade, too.

Marriage 911 hurt it... it was low-rated and Nanny has been lower each week since.

From what I've observed, rough schedules tend to leak out around 12-18 hours before that network's upfront presentation.

Something that must be said: Until the network makes an official presentation, we have no idea WHAT will ultimately happen. Remember, as an example. Crossing Jordan wasn't in ANY of the three scenarios in the Rough, yet it's still in it's Sunday/10 timeslot.
