Gomer frequently quotes his relatives and Grandma Pyle even makes at least 2 appearances on the show, so can anyone explain to me why he stays at a hotel in the episode where he goes back to Mayberry for a visit? True, Cousin Goober is supposedly away with the Taylors on a camping trip, but surely he must have other family members who'd put him up. Did Granma Pyle die?

Maybe Grandma Pyle didn't live in Mayberry.
