She obviously was charmed by this smoothy. Her husband was a workaholic, uptight type. Dial was the antidote to her painful, boring life.

i found this CNN article, it indicates, through a third party, that she was a victim. But she could be lying.

Or maybe yet, she was having an affair with Dial and wanted out. That would lend some credence to the Stockholm syndrome. The prior affair only made it easier to accept her captivity.
