I know this is OT, but does this mean that 3am will be the only time that "Murphy" is on?! Please tell me it's not, b/c I would really hate that! I'm glad to see "Wings" coming back, I just wonder how that'll affect MB.

It sounds like "Murphy Brown" has laid the usual egg that it does whenever it's rerun on a daily basis. It was a great series, and I really enjoyed it when it was first run on CBS, but it's been noted and proven that Candice Bergen's "Murphy" is simply too caustic a character for viewers to watch on a daily (or nightly) basis.

I agree. I also loved watching Murphy when I was younger, but I just don't enjoy the reruns. It's not one of those shows that I can watch over and over again, like Wings.

I'm glad to see Wings back, even if it is at 3:30 AM again.

I watched the first season or so of Murphy Brown back in the day, and got bored VERY quickly.

I am soooooooooooooooo happy Wings is coming back! As for the horrible hour, thank goodness for DVR. I just wonder which episode they'll start with -- where they left off, with Helen just back from NY and Gail in the picture?

Why not air Wings in a better time slot though? Not too many people wake up quite that early! I know I don't!

Like I said, if it's not listed in the changes, the schedule remains the same. So, yes Roseanne is on at 1:30am right now, so it'll air on April 18, too.

I'm happy that "Wings" will be back on N@N, but 3:30 AM is such a crappy time!!!

Those happen to be 2 shows I've never even had the remotest desire to watch. And it :mad: me off no end that they took away airtime from Wings.

For those of you wondering, TV Land has just announced starting Friday, May 6, Wings on Friday evenings will be replaced with I Love Lucy. You can still catch 5 episodes of Wings every week on Nick@Nite starting April 18.

Well, that's a promising sign....By starting with the first episode, at least it seems like NICK is treating "WINGS" as a serious replacement, and not just a "throwaway" show that they're throwing into the schedule to fill time....but I DO wish that they'd show it earlier!

That stinks that TV Land is taking Wings off. At least they were treating it with some respect.

I wish N@N would show Wings earlier. I'd rather see a DVD release.

I'm also glad they are starting with Legacy....love that episode!

I am starting to think that they are trying to capitalize on Thomas Haden Church's new found popularity by bringing it back. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they are bringing it back to N@N :)

Well, the odd thing for us on the West coast is that it'll air at 12:30....right as Conan is about to come on! Argh! It was perfect before, Conan at 12:35, Wings at 1am. Oh, well, can't have everything. Which also means on Nick West it'll air at 3:30, so if I can't sleep my Wings will be there for me :). And I guess you folks on the East would get it at 6:30am. Wake up to laughter before work??

And maybe Wings will get put into that great N@N "Hello Again" ad.

Unfornately my family doesn't own a VCR. I've been asking for one for like a year to no avail. My dad doesn't see the point in buying one since we have five DVD players.

Oh well. This is why I need Wings on DVD.

Well, it's not really his fault about having so many DVD players. We won two, got one for free, bought one about three years ago before the concept of a DVD burner was really out there, and one is a playstation 2. So, yeah. If I have a DVD burner I would be in heaven.

Bad move. I would've preferred more mini-marathons on TVLand.
Hopefully we'll see a DVD soon.

Thanks Seth, that's good news, I'm happy N@N is bringing back Wings, even if it's only at 3:30 am. They must be realizing people are getting sick of the Roseanne overkill :mad:

I'll never understand how the snydicators don't realize they are blanketing the airwaves with Roseanne, The Cosby Show, and Fresh Prince. Here in the LA area, these are literally on about six times a day each. TBS, KTLA, WGN, and Nick air ALL of those over and over and over and over.....ENOUGH!

DVR's cool, but I loved the rewinding of live tv. If I've left the room and missed something, just rewind back a few mins and there it is. No more waiting for the next newscast for a story I missed or whatever.

DVR allows you to pause and rewind live TV. I remember the first weekend I had it -- there was an Islander game on that night, and I was doing laundry. At the end of the period, I paused it and went downstairs to put my laundry in the dryer. When I came back, I hit "live" and found that the next period was just about to start.

I love this thing. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as Tivo, but it suits my needs quite nicely.

Yep it really is a godsend. I love it. I've heard TiVO is more complicated, I love DVR's. I can save a program for as long as I need, and transfer it to videotape or whatnot :)

One of the REALLY cool things about Tivo is that it follows your viewing habits and anticipates what it thinks might be your needs. For example, if you record Wings regularly, it might also decide on its own to record pretty much anything else out there with the Wings actors. But this can backfire on you too; for example, I have no interest whatsoever in Crystal Bernard's Lifetime Channel tragedy-of-the-week movies.

Plain vanilla DVRs can't do this, but that's OK. I just go to tv-now.com and look up actors I like and then record their films.

Is this new format temporary, or is Wings on for awhile?

I hope the later. I didnt know about this until yesterday morning at 330 when I turned it on and I was thrilled !

Never overestimate the taste of the General Public. I hope to God they dont put Sienfeld or Friends on Nick@Nite, but I garuntee in 5 years they probably will !

So? Awards mean zip. How do you explain Murphy Brown doing so poorly on N@N? That right there shows me awards mean nothing. I'm not denying Murphy Brown and Fresh Prince are popular, and I do believe they belong on N@N as well, but when it comes down to it in the long run awards mean nothing.

Wings is becoming a cult hit more than anything. I think TVLAND airing the Wings marathon has helped it's popularity alot. I think Wings belongs on N@N as much as any of the other shows do. Certainly more than the other shows that are on 50 million other channels besides N@N.

Actually Fresh Prince is only on N@N and The N(which is another channel of N@N), but Roseanne in my area alone airs on 4 different channels, and Full House is on N@N and ABC Family

I was just making the point that they belong on N@N. Not that Wings doesn't. But they do too.

Im sorry, its just that I dont feel Murphy Brown is a classic show. Its too dated and so is French Prince.

Of course to a certain extent everything is a little dated, but Wings just seems more like a classic high quality show to me. Fresh Prince seems cheesy and so does Murphy Brown.

Awards count, but sometimes the best of shows dont get all the awards.

Case in point- Mama's Family. One of the best sit coms on TV, yet it goes underappreciated.

By that definition.... All in the Family wouldn't be considered classic either. And if AITF isn't a classic.... nothing, absolutely nothing, is.

AITF also deals with timeless issues like family and friends and interpersonal relationships. It's not just about the politics of the time. Murphy Brown is almost solely about people who drop names for a living. And many of the names they're dropping won't be remembered when the people who saw the show in its original run are no longer around.

Sasette, well at least up until a month or so ago I know it was on WGN and TBS every time I'd turn around, plus the local L.A. affiliate here and N@N. FINALLY someone in a board room realized it was overkilling the airwaves.

I'm not a huge fan of "Friends" but I like it. However, I don't feel it would be right for N@N. Mainly because they don't always show all the episodes. And with a show like "Friends" you have to watch them all in order.

I always figured "Seinfeld" would come one day. However, I don't care if they do or not because they're both on DVD.

I'd like to see "Ellen" and one day "NewsRadio" come to N@N. But it's too soon right now.

As for "Wings" being on N@N, I admit that when it first came, I felt it was too soon. But now, with all the other shows being more into the 90's, "Wings" fits in. Unfortunatly, not with the ratings.

Because Murphy Brown's ratings are worse. Which is a shame, I like the show a lot. Wings is better.... but I still wish they would air more MB and less FH.

I wish they would show Mama's Family. Theres an underappreciated show for you. And its classic.


But overall I think Nick@Nite's programming has gone down hill. Its ok to have a few recently modern shows, but if it says 'Classic TV' then I think they should stick to tried and true programming. I can accept Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore, and they ran pretty good shows in the early 90s.

But in the last 5 years or so they have really let their standards drop. The Facts Of Life was even on there at one point. I just dont think of that as classic tv. It was a very run of the mill show.

I dont care about awards. A classic tv show has to be a show that is at least 30 years old or more that people want to see again. It should have a timeless comedy to it. I realize that everything is dated in a sense, but classic shows tend to defy their time periods.

Mama was on NBC. Thats a network. Later in the syndicated version it moved to Fox. You can knock Mama all you want, but it was CLASSIC. It may not be I Love Lucy, but its more classic show than others. It was wholesome and entertainning and had so many good episodes and great acting by Vicki Lawrence ! The NBC years were good, but I also like the other years with Bubba and Iola. Plus you had guest stars like Betty White and Carol Burnett and Imogene Coca- that puts Mama in automatic classic mode !
