View Full Version : Question for TVShowAnalyzer..........
GARFIELDKOOL 04-06-2005, 08:06 PM .........why do you dislike Florence so much? Man, she added flava to the show! I'll admit George was the show, but together, they brought out the best in one another. George dogged her with the insults, but she had some big comebacks.
While I am on the same topic, but different show, why you hated Aunt Esther? You claim she was one diminsional. So what? She was the vehicle for Fred's jokes. When Aunt Esther enetered the room, you know a scene was going to be funny! At least I did. Esther was an exciting character dispite her same old lines.
I rather LOOK at Florence and Esther rather than to LISTEN to a Cosby Show character. Esther and Florence rulezzzzzz! Watch it sucka!
TripperFan 04-06-2005, 11:54 PM Florence ABSOLUTELY made that show. George actually annoyed me somewhat, if it wasn't for her character to balance him out and put him in his place, I don't think the show would have made it as long as it did. Every show needs that point of conflict. Before The Jeffersons, George had it with Archie.

I guess because the character of Florence main purpose for being seen on the show was to insult my favorite character, George Jeferson. Same reason why I hated Esther

Well, you got to admit, those ladies made the men funnier, at least that's what I think.

I think I was bothered by how George was always the butt of Florence Jokes and never the other way around. And if it was it was every once in a while. Seems like the producers wanted to cash in on Florence making George look foolish

One thing that I didn't get for a long time was how they would tease George about his height so much, yet Florence and Louise were just about as tall as George was. I saw an episode recently called A Short Story where George receives an award from a buisnessman's association whose members are all 5'6" and less and Florence and Helen Willis were cracking all kinds of jokes at George's expense. But George never seemed that short to me really. In fact Archie Bunker wasn't really that much taller than he was from what I remember.

I guess Florence always joked about his height because she felt Men were supposed to be taller than women. Plus he was shorter than Bentley and Willis

He was very sensitive about his height as he stated in that Short Story episode. Some people are like that. Some minor physical characteristic is a big deal to them and I guess since George was obnoxious the height thing was a way to bring him down to size. Also in the later seasons Florence would rib him about his baldness and his pot belly.

I would have like to see George get back at her the way Fred got back at Aunt Esther.
James"Thunder"Early 04-08-2005, 08:51 PM I liked Florence. I think she was needed to give George somebody to trade insults with. Everybody else George insulted took it.

But she did most of the insulting.
nlearfan 05-03-2005, 08:05 PM As far as Aunt Esther, she was totally one dimensional. And for the record, these shows were supposed to be realistic, but nobody in the world acts like Aunt Esther. Nobody sounds like her, or hits someone with a purse that quickly. Although Fred was hilarious in those situations - like when he puts a bag over her face.

I was defintely able to tolerate Florence much more than crazy Esther

nlearfan, I hope to see you on these boards more often. We need these boards to come alive, and the Norman Lear show boards have been dead lately, haven't they TVShow Analyzer?
