What is your favorite song sung by Jim Nabors? Mine is either the "Tennessee Waltz" or "The Impossible Dream"

Ok, not many people are big fans of his songs? Well, I also like "Little Green Apples" and "Shazam!"

Hi all,
My favorite is "The Impossible Dream" . . . not just because it's a great song, but also because it reminds of when *I* sang it before a stadium full of people at my high school graduation.

"The Impossible Dream"

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go.

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest,to follow that star
No matter how hopeless,no matter how far
To fight for the right without question or pause
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause!

And I know, if I'll only be true to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie peaceful and clam
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star!

To reach the unreachable star
For you know it's impossibly high
To live with your heart striving upward
To reach the unreachable star!

"Shazam!"

I went to see a gypsy woman late last night
Told her everything I do it never works out right
I gave her all my money, nearly forty 'leven cents (???)
She said you need a magic word to give you confidence.

Just say "Shazam"
Zip! Zap!
Man you gotta put a whammy on 'em!
You could move the world or walk into the Pentagon knowin' no one's ever heard that special secret word
So if you want your way, just remember what to say, "Shazam."

I went to see a banker with a white shirt on
I tried to get along but my account was overdrawn
And since my credit rate don't exist
I asked him for the money with a brand new twist

I said Shazam!
Zip! Zap!
I went an put a whammy down
Banker changed his mind and said,
"How'd you like to buy the town?"
Made me a V.P.
People, can't you see?
If you want your way, just remember what to say... Shazam!

The cutest lil' queen of the county fair
Had a pretty smile and long blonde hair
She had a lot of suitors like a flock of birds,
But she chose me when she heard these words.

I said Shazam!
Zip! Zap!
Honey won't you come and be my wife?
You can clean house and cook for me all my life
Now I know that it really goes to show
If you want your way, jut remember what to say. Shazam!

I'm surprised no one said "Five Hundred Miles from Home". That song makes me cry everytime I hear it. My brother was in the Navy and passed away. It reminds me of him.

God blessed Jim Nabors with a beautiful voice!

I loved the episodes where Gomer improved his voice. He already had a sweet voice --the ep where a gangster type wants Gomer to sing Oh, My Papa, because he misses his papa -so he makes Gomer sing it every night, until Gomer gets the man's papa to come visit him from Italy.
But where he was going to compete to win a trip to Washington DC, and another Marine helps him, by advising Gomer to eject from his diaphram. THAT was VERY important for me to learn! I used to have a hard time speaking in front of a classroom, because I thought everybody was making fun of me when they said they couldn't hear me. Actually, to myself, I seemed loud enough. But I wasn't projecting. This ep made me learn how to better speak. I owe the show MUCH for that alone!
:thanks: :clap  :thanx: :tiphat: :king:

Back in the '60s, I had a copy of the 45 rpm single "Old Blue"/"Shazam" by Jim
Nabors. In fact, he cut an entire album of songs sung in his "Gomer Pyle"
voice!

I only know that she was the voice of Ladyfish in Don Knotts' first movie,
"The Incredible Mr. Limpet" (1964).
