View Full Version : Catfight on Vanity Fair set
*MIBabe03* 04-05-2005, 08:55 AM 'Housewives' Catfight on Vanity Fair Photo Shoot
The stars of Desperate Housewives turned into desperate divas on the set of their Vanity Fair cover shoot when Marcia Cross took offense at the star treatment lavished on Golden Globe-winner Teri Hatcher. According to writer Ned Zeman, who was present when the bust-up occurred, Cross "lost it" when Hatcher was moved into the center of the group shot, despite publicists' demands that photographers treat cast members as equals. Zeman says, "ABC (TV) publicity demanded that, in all the different set-ups that the women would be posed for photographs, Teri Hatcher absolutely was not to be in the center of the women. There had been some tension on the set over who's getting the awards and who's getting most of the magazine covers - that would be Teri Hatcher." And when Hatcher seemed to be taking over the shoot, through no fault of her own, Cross showed off her fiery side. Zeman adds, "She screamed (the publicist's) name and said, in essence, 'I want you to get over here and do your bleeping job...' Then she launched into this profanity-laced tirade. Teri was most visibly upset and got very emotional and was tearing up and was on her cell phone seeking comfort from someone." Hatcher insists the spat has been blown out of proportion: "However it comes off, I believe that everyone is as grateful to be on the show as I am." Meanwhile, cast mate Eva Longoria claims the fight was sparked by over-the-top primping and preening: "They forget we just shot a 16-hour day the day before and when someone's tweaking every little hair, it's like, 'Stop touching us, just shoot the picture.'"

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when you put 5 women together. I'm surprised this hasn't happened before now.
I can't wait for the "E True Hollywood Story" about this show...
;)

LMAO! I agree. I don't condone what Marcia did, but if I were her I think I would be kind of upset too. They always make Teri the star of the show, in reality it's an ensemble.
I'm pretty sure the others are probably a little jealous of the attention Teri and Eva are getting.
It's like those two are having a contest to see who can appear on the most magazine covers.
*MIBabe03* 04-05-2005, 02:54 PM I think both Marcia and Felicity get screwed over when it comes to magazines, which is really too bad, because they are both talented actresses.
barwars 04-05-2005, 04:22 PM Fight all they want, but if they **** up the show....
spunkygirl 04-05-2005, 04:27 PM Once again Teri gets crapped on by ABC :cuss:  Like someone said, why would ABC treat Teri this way when they've primped her as the star from the beginning?
I don't condone what Marcia did either. I'm very disappointed in her. I mean yes it's an ensemble show, but so was Dallas and as we all know Larry Hagman was the star of that show.
I hope this doesn't hurt the show. I read that Teri burst into tears in between the shoot when they were on breaks. Personally I think Marcia should be ashamed of herself. I think she was also mad because her and Nicollette were supposed to be beside each other and then Teri was moved between them.
barwars 04-05-2005, 04:37 PM How you can side with Teri is beyond me.... but whatever.
Brent88 04-05-2005, 04:47 PM :yeahthat
Geez Teri... your name appears first in the opening credits, what more do you want?
Sounds like she "bursts into tears" very easily.
Caffeine King 04-05-2005, 04:48 PM I also think that they're all an ensemble.
I hate it how Teri Hatcher gets all of the attention. I hate Susan and how she's always falling down. Her storylines don't interest me at all.
I prefer all of the other ladies over her. I don't have anything against Teri Hatcher but I just don't like her character and I truely do prefer all of the other ladies over her.
barwars 04-05-2005, 05:25 PM I like Teri Hatcher a lot, but Marcia Cross deserves just as much if not more attention than Hatcher gets. They've gotten too big, too fast, and it's going to their heads.
The only one that seems to have a clear head on her shoulders is Huffman, and, maybe not so coincidentally -- she's quickly becoming my favorite part of the show.

HUH? This wasn't Teri's fault, it was ABC's fault, and Marcia's for acting like a bitch or should I say a DIVA
Teri's an emotional person, nothing wrong with that, I am as well.
spunkygirl 04-05-2005, 05:33 PM How you can side with Teri is beyond me.... but whatever.
Personally I don't see why Teri's getting the blame for this, when it was all Marcia and ABC's doing, and the people in charge of the photo shoot were the ones in charge, not Teri.
Marcia was acting like a bitch

Why?? ABC demanded that Teri not be in the center of any photo, because they don't want her to steal any more thunder than she has. Marcia was just playing by the rules. But whatever, you're obviously a fan of hers and will side with her rather than realize what actually went on.

Yeah I know ABC didn't want her in the middle, but the ones in charge of the photo shoot should be to blame, they're the ones who put her there. Sorry I hate when people act like Diva's and that's what Marcia was doing, if Teri or any of the other ladies were doing it I would say the same thing, surprisingly enough I can be objective, so I don't see how this is Teri's fault?
It's not Teri's fault ABC primped her as the star from the beginning, and I do have to say that they all do get their fair share of attention, except maybe Felicity, but Teri, Marcia and Eva and even Nicollette all do.
Pavan 04-05-2005, 05:44 PM Now, now...we don't want a catfight on the SitcomsOnline.com set!
And I think the people to blame are Vanity Fair. I don't think Teri demanded to be in the middle. If any of us were in her shoes, we'd listen and be in the center of the shoot, too.
Caffeine King 04-05-2005, 05:56 PM  IMO, maybe they're acting as if Teri Hatcher is the star of the show to show her that she's famous now and won't be going back to becoming a wash up/has been anytime soon and to put the poor thing's mind at ease! Just a thought.
spunkygirl 04-05-2005, 07:08 PM James Denton himself said "you can't believe everything you hear, when you're on a popular show, people like to blow things out of proportion"
So very true, wouldn't surprise me if this was blown way out of proportion, someone's probably looking for their 15 minutes of fame
spunkygirl 04-05-2005, 08:02 PM ABC's Statement:
"While negotiating certain elements of photo shoots is standard practice, and was part of our coordination with Vanity Fair, this shoot simply did not go as planned."
"Because of this, our talent were made to deal as best they could with a situation not of their making, this one isolated incident does not define these women, or their relationship."
When I heard about this story yesterday, something seemed off about it. I've never seen Marcia act anything but classy and treat people with respect, she's one of the nicest ladies around. If she did act the way they said she "supposedly" did, then it's very disappointing, but it's really hard to believe. Yes everyone can have off days and get mad, but Marcia has always treated the people around her, especially her friends with nothing but respect.
I think that ABC employee that was at the photo shoot who went by the name "The Enabler"(that right there is a red flag for me, what he can't give his real name? Hmmm maybe he was there to cause problems to stir up controversy, which we know=publicity for the show) is the major cause of this.
Teri's not to blame, she did what the photographer told her to do, as did the other ladies, Teri stood where he told her to stand, as did the other ladies , and she wore the swimsuit the wardrobe picked out for her.
Simply put, I agree with James Denton

;)
 Neither can I.
spunkygirl 04-05-2005, 10:36 PM This is what ALOT of people think about what "suppposedly" happened
the actresses showed up and were professional and magazine people began making life difficult, changing their mind, shortening the shoot, etc and wanted to blame it on the actresses.
Also ironically after all the fuss that was made Marcia didn't even end up on the cover:

She's on the part you have to pull out when you open the magazine
Alot of people are saying that the magazine is blowing this out of proportions to sell magazines. The shoot was in February but we're just now hearing about this "supposed" catfight? Ummm no.

NEW YORK (April 5) - They may appear sultry and ready for summer on the May cover of Vanity Fair, but according to the magazine, the stars of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" were actually steaming angry.
Vanity Fair's cover proclaims: "You wouldn't believe what it took just to get this photo!" The article acknowledges that the poolside photo-shoot, in which the five women appear in different colored bathing suits, was manned by an ABC representative who was to make sure that certain demands were met - including that Teri Hatcher didn't select her wardrobe first or appear in the center of any group photo.
"Whatever you do," the ABC rep, who wasn't identified by name, said when he arrived on the set, "do not let Teri go to wardrobe first."
Despite the rep's plea, Hatcher was the first "housewife" to visit wardrobe, and she had consulted with the stylist days in advance. At one point, the rep proclaimed: "This is a problem. I'm getting text messages from Eva (Longoria). Everything is not fine."
The struggles continued once the photographer started snapping. Redhead Marcia Cross turned red-hot when she saw Hatcher standing next to her in the center of the shot, according to the article. Cross grabbed her bathrobe and stormed off, spewing expletives at the ABC rep.

The ladies from 'Desperate Houswives' appear on the May issue of Vanity Fair, which hits newsstands April 12.

Hatcher later walked to the other end of the set, where "she got into a tearful, heated conversation on her cell phone."
In the fold-out May cover, which hits newsstands April 12, the center position belongs to Nicollette Sheridan, who's flanked by Hatcher and Cross with Longoria and Felicity Huffman posed beneath them on a chaise - although Cross and Huffman can't been seen when the cover is folded.
Also in the article, the women discuss the media blitz surrounding the show and its stars. Huffman believes a "Desperate" backlash is imminent while Cross just ignores it all.
"Honestly, I don't read it," Cross told Vanity Fair of the media coverage. "And I don't even watch the show right now. It's too much. It's just too much."

barwars 04-06-2005, 03:12 PM Nice photo.... but I'm not surprised that Cross and Huffman are the two you don't automatically see.
I see that Sheridan isn't getting just as much buzz if not more than the other girls.... I wonder if they would rework the DVD cover art to include her.
Gatzbee 04-10-2005, 11:47 PM hmmm i just read this on some fan sites right now... personally, i agree, this happened in... FEBRUARY??! if it was really THAT bad shouldn't it have gotten out BEFORE now? esp. since everyone knows these 4 ladies can make headlines like WOA. personally i'd be VERY cautious about all of a sudden defending anyone or calling anyone a 'bitch' cuz quite frankly NONE of us were there. i can think of many celebrities being at media mercy over things they never really even did. who knows, but i wouldn't doubt for one second that things are being blown way out of proportions and facts are getting altered...
isiahthomas 04-12-2005, 10:19 AM Very nice cover of the ladies on Vanity Fair magazine. I saw this yesterday at the grocery store. They all have very nice bodies.

Yep this was photographed in February, and it's only just coming out now when the issue is coming out, I guess they want to sell more magazines(not that it wouldn't have anyways)
Days after the shoot Marcia Cross said everything went great, so either she lied, or this really was blown WAY out of proportion, I'm going with the latter
