- TV Land Movie-of-the-Weeks
Monday, June 27 through Saturday, July 2
8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. ET/PT each night (approx.)
TV Land will present a week-long showcase of Made-for-TV Movies. It was a daring concept for an uncertain time - a weekly series of original movies produced especially for television. But this expensive gamble delivered top-ten ratings (and a slew of memorable titles) for nearly 2 decades beginning in 1969 before fading off to TV never land in the mid-80s. These classic movies are back for campy enjoyment all summer long. SCHEDULE IS AS FOLLOWS:
Monday, June 27
8:00PM-10:00PM "Brian’s Song" (1971-ABC)
Depicts true-life friendship of Gale Sayers, Chicago Bears backfield star and his teammate, Brian Piccolo, who died of cancer. Gale Sayers joins the Chicago Bears and is befriended by Brian Piccolo, an over-achieving running back. Although they compete for the same spot on the team, and despite the fact that Sayers is black and Piccolo white, they become roommates on the road and very close friends, especially when Sayers is injured and Piccolo helps his recovery. Later, they and their wives must both deal with the harsh reality of Piccolo's cancer. This was the first TV movie to win a Peabody and an Emmy. Used by psychologists in experiments to make people cry. A classic. Starring: James Caan, Billy Dee Williams.
10:00PM-12:30AM "Bill" (1981-CBS)
Bill a ******** man ventures out into the world for the first time. Having spent most of his life in a dreary inner city Institution. He is taken in by a kind family and learns what it means to love for the first time in his life.
Starring: Mickey Rooney and Denis Quaid.
Tuesday, June 28
8:00PM-10:00PM “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” (1976-ABC)
Based on a true story, Tod Lubitch is born with a deficient immune system (not unlike being born with AIDS). As such, he must spend the rest of his life in a completely sterile environment. His room is completely hermetically sealed against bacteria and viruses, his food is specially prepared, and his only human contact comes in the form of gloved hands. The movie follows his life into a teenager. Starring: John Travolta
10:00PM-12:30AM “The Execution of Private Slovik” (1974-NBC)
William Bradford Huie's dramatic case history about the first American to be executed for desertion by the U.S. Army since the Civil War. Depicts the timeless struggle between individual rights and national rights in wartime, between the rebel and the establishment. Told in biographical style ending with execution in 1945. Kicked off the docudrama phase of the history of TV movies. Starring: Martin Sheen, Ned Beatty, Gary Busey
Wednesday, June 29
8:00PM-10:00PM "An Early Frost" (1985-NBC)
Set in the mid-eighties Michael Pierson, a young gay man, is struck with AIDS in the prime of his life. He's forced to be open about the disease and his homosexuality for the first time with his co-workers (he's a successful lawyer) and family. He, and the people around him, must face up to the inevitability of his death and the disease that's killing him. "An Early Frost" was many people's first look at an AIDS victim as a human being instead of a statistic. Starring: Gena Rowlands, Ben Gazzara, Aidan Quinn
10:00PM-12:30AM The Taking Of Flight 847 (1988-NBC)
In 1985, Uli Derickson, a flight attendant was credited for saving all but one of the passengers’ lives during a hijacking of a TWA flight from Athens to Rome. The movie chronicles the first 2 days and the aftermath. Starring: Lindsay Wagner
Thursday, June 30
8:00PM-11:00PM "The Day After" (1983-ABC)
Presents the catastrophic consequences of a super-powered nuclear attack and a detailed view of the destruction and effects on the United States and the average citizens in Kansas. The bulk of the activity centers around the town of Lawrence, Kansas. As controversial a TV as was ever made. Despite the firestorm of debate it earned 12 Emmy Award nominations, signaling the TV movie had come of age as a serious TV genre. Finished as second highest rated show on the 1983-84 TV season. Starring: Jason Robards, JoBeth Williams
Friday, July 1
8:00PM-12:30AM "Sybil" (1976-NBC)
A young woman is so tormented by a harrowing childhood that she develops 16 personalities. Emmy Award (actress and best TV movie), Peabody award. Launching pad of Sally Field’s dramatic career (after Gidget). Starring: Sally Field
Saturday, July 2
8:00PM-12:00AM “Helter Skelter” (1976-CBS)
A dramatization of the book by Vincent Bugliosi about the Charles Manson "family" and the trial of the Tate/LaBianca murderers. This 4-hour two-parter held the record for ratings until Roots as it achieved 50% shares in this of-told tale of the craziness of Charles Manson. Starring: Steve Railsback
A 24 hour marathon is scheduled for Saturday, July 3 and Sunday July 4, from 8pm to 8pm et/pt. See July thread for details.
COMING IN JULY ... GOOD TIMES! 24 HOUR MOVIE MARATHON FOR 4TH OF JULY.

dawsongirl 04-05-2005, 01:39 AM Hmm...some of that sounds kind of cool.
Maybe it's just me, but "Tickled Pink" is a crappy name for that special.

Maybe it's just me, but "Tickled Pink" is a crappy name for that special.
I agree, Tickled Pink could very well be taken the wrong way by some.
Pavan 04-05-2005, 06:58 AM I actually, have to say the Made for TV Movie thing looks good. I might actually watch TV Land for a change.
Of course for the 48hr Nick&Nite celebration I will have to tune in as well.
I think the Warner marathon will be a sleeper. You'll see some great shows then. I haven't seen the line-up yet, but I hope, and think, we'll see a Hogan Family sighting!
gilligan fanatic 04-05-2005, 02:59 PM I have always wanted to see The Day After. I am not a big fan of TV Land's Top 10. They have to many new shows on the countdown.
Oh my God! This is effing awesome! I can not wait to tape Dallas when it airs for the Warner marathon! Oh my effing God, I swear if they show Knots Landing or Falcon Crest or Flamingo Road, I will seriously wet my pants. Swear to God.
Pav, you were right! This is going to make me VERY happy! *hibernates for the next two months*
And the NAN weekend sounds EXCELLENT as well! I was going to start saving money to buy the Dynasty DVD set, but I might just spend it all on blank tapes! I can't wait!
Also, I hope they mention AMC's Bianca on the Tinkled Pink special!
barwars 04-05-2005, 09:24 PM Im looking forward to both the N@N 20th Anniversary (on N@N & TVLand) and the WB 50th Anniversary.
Excuse me now, I'm off to buy a ten pack of blank tapes.

L&OFan4Eva 04-09-2005, 06:07 PM As long as the Warner 50th marathon shows Lois and Clark, I'll Fly Away, Homefront, The Hogan Family, Perfect Strangers and/or The John Larroqette Show (even late at night) consider me a viewer.

I would seriously faint if they showed Lois and Clark ;)
I would love for them to air Perfect Strangers and Hogan Family, the others, hopefully :)
USTVFanFromUK 04-09-2005, 08:26 PM Is there any reason in particular why TV Land is celebrating Warner Bros'. anniversary? I mean they've never done this with any other production company. I wonder if they'll show Friends (I SERIOUSLY doubt it) since its perhaps Warner's biggest hit tv-wise. Looking at it, N@N currently airs more shows by Warner (Full House, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Murphy Brown) than it does with any other production company.

Why? Because Warner is celebrating in style. Wave 2 for their DVDs comes out in June, too. So, Warner gave TV Land access to anything from their vault for free (but probably not shows on other cable channels, at least major cable channels, like TBS). Good idea by Warner, I think.
L&OFan4Eva 04-09-2005, 09:16 PM When will the schedule for the Warner 50th marathon come? I'm getting excited! :D

That's debatable. Friends might be their most recent hit, but remember, they also did Dallas and Knots Landing, both of which ran longer than Friends. As a matter of fact, season-wise, KL might be their longest-running show. I'm definitely not sure, though, but it could be...

True, both Dallas and Knots Landing ran longer than Friends but neither was as big as Friends the whole way though. Dallas and Knots Landing stared off strong the first few years, but fizzled out ratings-wise by the end. Friends on the other hard was a top 10 rated show throughout its entire 10 season run. I believe Friends is also in the top 10 for the biggest shows ratings-wise as well. Also, I believe at the time both Dallas and Knots Landing ran they were produced by then independent production company Lorimar which was later brought under the Warner umbrella.
In any case, I doubt TV Land will be airing any of these shows since SoapNet has the rights to Dallas and Knots Landing and TBS has the rights to Friends. I don't know how the 'special airing' thing works but I could be wrong.

Dallas will be in it. SoapNet is not as big as TBS. TBS paid tons of money for Friends. You won't see that I think.

True, but if I'm right the "Who Shot JR?" episode is the second highest rated in television history behind the M*A*S*H finale. "Who Shot JR" did even higher ratings than Friends' series finale I'm pretty sure :)

Yeah and Dallas and KL are on a Disney owned network whereas Friends is on a AOL Time Warner owned network. I assume Warner is associate in some dominant way with its subsidiaries.

The Friends series finale was anemic in the ratings compared to other high profile sendoffs. Seinfeld and Cheers did much better.
troopoleon8897 04-10-2005, 07:50 PM I wonder (not likely) if they'll show any cartoons or looney tunes?

Of course, AOLTW owning both Friends and TBS mean approximately squat in terms of the show potentially airing on a Viacom-owned network.
While the Dallas deal over at Soapnet is cable-exclusive, AFAIK, there is a clause that allows stunt exemptions for other networks with permission.
MikeLutton 04-11-2005, 12:55 AM is Dukes Hazzard going to be on the Marathon as well its Warner bros.that would be cool.
Dean Winchester 04-11-2005, 02:21 AM re: Dallas vs. Friends
this debate is apples and oranges. Dallas at it's biggest was bigger than Friends ever was, but Friends was consistantly popular for a longer time. When Friends ended, it was still a top 5 show, where it'd been for the past 9 seasons. When Dallas ended, it wasn't even in the top 50 ratings any longer, which was quite a big fall from #1, where it was at several seasons in the early 1980's. "Who Shot JR" was much bigger than Friends' final episode, but it'd be more fair to compare final episodes and final seasons for both shows. Yes, the Friends finale wasn't all that huge compared to Seinfeld and MASH, but people were still watching the show then, I remember a lot of older relatives (I was 11 when the show ended, so it was long past it's prime by the point where I was at the age to get into it) who loved Dallas in the 80's that were all but over the show when it was laid to rest in 1991, and only came back to the final episode because it was like seeing an old friend one last time.
Friends was able to maintain it's popularity for a longer time, whereas Dallas was massive, but also dwindled in popularity with time. It's not comparing the quality of the shows because I have only seen a couple Dallas episodes in my life, and they were all late period episodes (think Sasha Mitchell late), by then the show was long past it's peak.

I absolutely agree. It kinda reminds of something Joyce DeWitt once said, which she quoted Shirley MacLaine on: "I don't want to be a big star, but a long star." Dallas was a huge 'star' for about 1979-1986, but from 1986-1991, it was pretty much mediocre. Friends, while not ever being as big as D was, was big for its whole run.

one thing I wonder is, what exactly caused Dallas and Knots Landing to plummet in the ratings the way they did? I know that Dynasty fell from the top down to the 70's because it eventually got too campy at a time where campy wasn't really embraced. But Dallas was a Friday night mainstay for so long, so it was weird why for so many seasons, it was either #1 or #2 in the year end ratings, and then by the end was doing so poorly. Why wasn't there the "comfort food" aspect that kept Friends (which most people will argue that the last 4 seasons were strongly inferior to the first 6) in the top 5, when a show runs for 14 seasons, you'd think the "comfort food" mentality would be really high because people had lived through disco, Reagan, even Bart Simpson, with JR Ewing, yet it wasn't the case.
Pavan 04-12-2005, 06:05 PM Bad news guy. It seems the Warner 50th bash has been delayed. I hope it will air soon. If I were to guess, maybe in September or November, when Waves 3 and 4 come out. Let's just hope & pray it gets rescheduled and not completely canceled. I found out some more shows that were going to be on it. It is quite impressive. Read the first post on this thread for details on that.

Damn that TVLand! Damn them!
But really, as long as it's going to air, I'm going to be very happy. I mean...Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest AND Sisters!?!??!?!?!?!?!?! I swear to God they better not cancel this completely! I hope they air it as soon as they can!
KL! FC! I've seen KL before (four episodes), but I've never had the opportunity to tape it...I hope they pick a good episode from 1980-1987...and omg I've never even seen FC before, but I still can't wait for it! Any episode would be OK with me, but I would prefer something from 1981-1985...
This does indeed sound thrilling, but I hope they get the ball rolling and reschedule it again. Any chance of them taking back the pre-emption and airing on the original dates?

A Soap fan as big as you.... and you don't get SoapNet?!
God really does hate you, doesn't he?
LOL! I've been saying it for years now! I don't think God hates me, though. My cable people hate him, therefore they refuse to acknowledge his urging them to get me SOAPnet pronto. It'll come with time though.
The most I ever had of SOAPnet was a three-day stay in a hospital in another cable company area, so that tells you right there how ironic my life is.
Sean Snow 04-12-2005, 07:04 PM Gah, I'm pissed that they postponed the WB event. I was looking really forward to it! Hopefully it hasn't been postponed too long. At least they're still doing the N@N celebration.

Dallas just got really, really, really bad towards the end, IMO. Almost no "fan favorites" were left by the end - the only ones that come to mind that were in the final season were Patrick Duffy, Ken Kercheval, and Larry Hagman. Yeah, it was still Dallas, but it wasn't anywhere near the same show it had been in both quality and in terms of the characters on the canvas.
Dynasty didn't go that far down (it was #33 in its eighth season and fell to #56 in its final season) during its last season, and I wouldn't blame the camp. The campiness was completely toned down during the final season (which was arguably one of its best), where the show really went back to the way it was in its earlier seasons before it went all-out campy. ABC scheduled it against NBC's big Thursday night line-up and CBS' Knots Landing, which really hurt its ratings. Linda Evans also left that season and Joan Collins only appeared in a few episodes because the show couldn't afford to pay her salary anymore. The show was just too expensive to keep going (I think I read somewhere that it cost around $2,000,000 per episode during its final season, and they spent $75,000 on wardrobe alone in one of the later season finales).
barwars 04-12-2005, 07:11 PM Nowadays, $2 Million for a hit show would be chump change.

I think they should not air Sanford & Son. That really was never a Nick@Nite regular. I think it just aired for a TV Land block or something. Taxi and Mork & Mindy should be in that slot instead. I also noticed no Diff'rent Strokes for 2000-2005. They could have due away one of the episodes for the one hour block of Wings or Cheers, and added that instead. Coach is also missing from that block. I wasn't expecting Charles in Charge, Perfect Strangers or Head of the Class, so those I would not put in there, even though they are very good shows.
As for Roseanne, the deal only allows them to play the show in primetime, while Oxygen has it in the day. That's why that is not there.
barwars 04-15-2005, 03:06 PM Sounds great.... I'm looking to forward to it. I'll need lots of tapes.
Pavan 04-15-2005, 04:31 PM For the 95-00 block, I would remove both Sanford & Son airings and add Taxi and move Bewitched to the 95-00 block, and have Mork & Mindy in the 90-95 block. Also, I'd have The Wonder Years in the 95-00 block instead of Brady Bunch, since that is already in the 00-05 block. Finally, I'd remove the second airings of Three's Company, Cheers and Wings in the 00-05 block and add Beverly Hillbillies, Diff'rent Strokes and Coach. WKRP is also missing.
Other than that, it looks VERY good.
Very good indeed! I can't wait!
TV DVD Fan 04-15-2005, 06:28 PM i know we have 1990-1995, and 1995-2000 episodes (and encores) but i see a june 26th episode listing without a heading. are these 3 different episodes?
(sorry this is a little cryptic)
pat
joefriday 04-15-2005, 09:40 PM Also, NO Laugh-In, Dennis The Menace & Car 54 Where Are You?
I hope they show classic Nick At Nite "imaging" from those time periods too!
benjamoon 04-15-2005, 10:24 PM The lineup looks great... just a few questions that have kinda been brought up but not answered... pav, i dunno if you'd know the answers but i'll give it a shot!
1) Will there be classic commericals, intros to the shows, etc like during the 10th Anniversary Week?
2) The encores will be the same episodes as earlier, correct?
3) Do you happen to know if they'll be the same episode they were for the 10th anniversary week for some of the older shows? I hope not!
Coory 04-15-2005, 11:14 PM Pav are they going to show classic Nick At Nite imaging from those time periods too?
Pavan 04-15-2005, 11:58 PM I don't know which episodes will air yet. No idea if "classic" promos/images will be airing during the event. And the encore airings will be the same episodes as the original airings.
dawsongirl 04-16-2005, 01:15 AM OMGOMGOMG!!!!! THEY ARE SHOWING ROUTE 66!!!! I am totally staying up for that. WOOOOOO!!!!
I hope it's not the first episode, but it probably is. Oh well....yayayay!!!!!
LOL Cathy!
I kinda hoped that they showed some more shows as well, like That Girl, The Wonder Years and Dennis the Menace. I have fond memories of staying up late at night on weekends watching NAN. I remember the TG opening with Ann's head superimposed over shots of New York. And I remember my utter shock at learning that MTM's Phyllis had her own show...
Scoobiedoo30 04-16-2005, 01:05 PM The Scheduled for The 20th Anniversarry Special on TV Land Looks Great For Saturday, June 25, 205 and Sunday June 26, 2005.
Michael72581 04-16-2005, 07:56 PM Another show missing from TVLand's Nick At Nite's 20th Anniversary Weekend is "The Beverly Hillbillies". I guess TVLand can't get access to it for the weekend. It's a shame if they can't get access to it. Otherwise, great schedule and a nice selection of shows. Can't Wait!!!
SpunkiiMonkii7078 04-17-2005, 12:46 AM Yay yay yay!!!! I will be getting no sleep that weekend... I'll need lots of tapes... off to find some now! Weeee!!!

Mr. Television 04-17-2005, 01:25 AM Gah, I'm pissed that they postponed the WB event.
Dallas wasn't the same show at the end. All the original cast had mostly left and their replacements were terrible actors and JR got to soft. He was tricked into a sanatarium by his hillbilly wife and his 20 something year old son. The old JR never would have let that happen.
dawsongirl 04-17-2005, 02:42 AM LOL Cathy!
Too overzealous? ;)
MischievousSpirit 04-17-2005, 02:54 AM It's great they're showing The Partridge Family, but they didn't proof read the schedule enough and mispelled Partridge, Patridge *three* times!
I wish there was more love for The Partridge Family! C'mon Get Happy! :D
I also wish they would dump those double showings of shows that are already on too much, like Three's Company, Roseanne, The Cosby Show, and put in more of the older shows that haven't been seen as much. In the end, I s'pose it's impossible to make everyone happy.
JamisonCollins 04-18-2005, 01:09 AM I am looking forward to the Nick at Nite anniversary weekend on TV Land. Alot of those shows I haven't seen in a long time.

I too wish that they would drop thoese shows that they been running into the ground. For the schedule itself,E.T. In T.V. Land is nothing more than rehash interviews from E.T. itself,so nothing new there.Same for T.V. Land Legend. Would like to see these shows on Inside T.V. Land and at least get some new dirt on these shows. And couldn't they have done better than A Day With The Catrwrights?!Should be called A Night With The Cartwrights because for the simple reason it is on at night!!!I'll just wait for the anniversary celebration;THAT WILL BE FUN
barwars 04-18-2005, 11:36 AM For the schedule itself,E.T. In T.V. Land is nothing more than rehash interviews from E.T. itself,so nothing new there.Same for T.V. Land Legend.
Thats the point of TVLand.... airing stuff that used to air on network television. The same thing about "rehash interviews" can be said about every single sitcom or drama they air.
JamisonCollins 04-18-2005, 08:10 PM Well some of the stuff on TV Land is okay but there is overkill on some of it too.
ClassicTV4Ever 04-19-2005, 12:44 AM OMG! Knots Landing, Sisters, Eight Is Enough, and Life Goes On in the WB event?!?! ::cries:: I hope it isn't canceled either!
JamisonCollins 04-19-2005, 02:17 AM Yes I hope the WB event will be on in the future.
Scoobiedoo30 04-19-2005, 10:30 AM I know I also hope they show The WB will be in The Future.

Pavan 05-12-2005, 08:16 PM TV LAND GIVES A WINK TO GAY AMERICA WHEN NETWORK PRESENTS INSIDE TV LAND: TICKLED PINK
One-Hour Special Examines How Gay Americans Have Created and Viewed Television
Kelsey Grammer, Sandra Bernhard, Bruce Vilanch, Marc Cherry, Carson Kressley, Rue McClanahan, Mario Cantone and Others Featured
Santa Monica, CA, May 12, 2005 - From Maude and The Golden Girls to Xena, The Warrior Princess and Will & Grace, certain television shows throughout the last forty years have strayed from the straight and narrow and given a wink to Gay America. TV Land takes an in-depth look at celebrated television personalities and characters that gay viewers have either gravitated towards or closely identified with in Inside TV Land: Tickled Pink, premiering on June 1, 2005 at 11 p.m. ET/PT. Notables Kelsey Grammer, Marc Cherry, Sandra
Bernhard, Diahann Carroll, Rue McClanahan, Mario Cantone, Carson Kressley, Judy Gold and others are featured in interviews and discuss why gay viewers
have always been drawn to TV shows where camp and comedy are celebrated.
Inside TV Land: Tickled Pink is produced for TV Land by Linda Ellerbee's Lucky Duck Productions. Sal Maniaci, Vice President, Development and Production, TV Land & Nick at Nite, serves as Executive Producer.
"Several TV shows and characters that the country has embraced -- from "Uncle Arthur" on Bewitched to the ladies of Sex & the City -- have also meant a great deal to gay Americans" states Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land and Nick at Nite. "TV Land is thrilled to provide our viewers with this in-depth look at how gay Americans have had their own way of watching and creating classic comedy."
Throughout this 60-minute journey, TV Land takes a look at how various characters and series became "homosensational." From female characters in sitcoms such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Maude, The Golden Girls and Designing Women, gays took solace in the independence of women who dared to define the rigid roles of the time. The gay community saw these characters as strong, independent and outrageous, and the bond with their friends resonated with their own lives. The TV landscape continued to evolve as characters like Tony Randall's portrayal of "Felix" in The Odd Couple and Paul Lynde's "Uncle Arthur" on Bewitched strayed slightly from the straight and narrow. Even the dynamic duos Kate & Allie and Batman with "Robin" resonated with gay Americans. In the 1990's, as gay visibility began to increase, sitcoms like Friends, Ellen and even The Simpsons had more and
more fun playing on their audience's new awareness of all things gay. Xena, Warrior Princess was hugely popular with lesbians as they looked to her as someone who was strong on the outside but also sensitive and loving and they began to play up her relationship with her best friend. This original special examines how gays embraced the aesthetic of many of these shows, making them more visible for others to be "Tickled Pink."
Among the watershed television shows, characters and moments discussed in the special are:
* Paul Lynde of Bewitched does not suppress his sexual orientation and uses double entendres on Hollywood Squares to push the envelope.
* The series Maude stars Bea Arthur as a tough, outspoken woman, a rarity in TV at the time.
* For her television series, Cher wins over fans with her extravagant ensembles created by gay icon Bob Mackie. Her outlandish appeal taps a primal urge in countless gay men.
* Gays are drawn to TV's crime-fighting dynamic duos like "Ponch" and "John" on Chips, Starsky and Hutch and "Batman" and "Robin."
* The Golden Girls is embraced by homosexuals for its gay sensibility and how the characters' friends ultimately become their family.
* The outrageousness of the characters on Designing Women, particularly "Suzanne Sugarbaker," resonates with the gay community.
* Shows like Laverne and Shirley, Kate & Allie and Cagney & Lacey appeal to lesbians because of the strong bond between women. This was the closest thing there was at that point to any sort of representation of a
lesbian relationship.
* Gays identified with characters like "Samantha" on Bewitched, "Diane Prince" on Wonder Woman and "Buffy" from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer because these women struggled with revealing their personal secrets.
* Dynasty is filled with strong women who were unapologetic and bitchy - one of the campiest shows on television.
* The revelation of Ellen DeGeneres on her sitcom, and in real life, that she was gay changed the TV landscape and was a huge step forward for homosexuality on television. In the years before DeGeneres and her gay character came out, some of the funniest moments on Ellen came from winks to viewers indicating her true orientation.
* Gays and lesbians embraced "Xena" and respected her strength. In addition, her relationship with her best friend was filled with innuendo which creators had fun implementing into the storylines.
* Sex and the City is filled with bawdy humor and puts female friendships first.
* Sassy diva "Karen" on Will & Grace is embraced by gay males for just being fabulous.
Lucky Duck Productions is an award-winning and critically acclaimed television production company renowned for producing primetime specials, documentaries, limited-run series and children's programming for network and cable television. The company is owned and operated by journalist, producer
and author, Linda Ellerbee and Rolfe Tessem.
Sounds good! Wish they would have mentioned AMC's Bianca Montgomery though, one of the most popular lesbian characters on television, period.
USTVFanFromUK 05-13-2005, 03:52 PM I'm surprised they don't mention 'Roseanne' which was the first show to ever have a same-sex kiss aired on US television as well as the first show to portray gays and lesbians as apart of working class America.
KJH278 05-16-2005, 12:03 AM No EMERGENCY! BOO
rodwayne 05-18-2005, 04:57 PM I hope they show a lot of Paul Lynde, essepecially his doing his thing on Hollywood Squares.60 minuets isn't long enough to really look at all of the issues of gay Americans on T.V.;should have been 2 hours. The plot for the big screen version Bewitched seems stupid,idiotic,formulated-plot that probably going to make million of dollars(and be a number 1 box office hit).Once again, they take a classic and ruin it  And what the HELL Ren&Stimpy is doing on what suppose to be a month to celebrate classics;NOT cult classic which is what this show is.I just wish that they could show all of the classic that are about to be shown all month long, not for two nights.Oh well!!!

Oh these mini-maratons have got to go now. I remember when they came back in February 2004, everyone was screaming at me that they'd only be around for like two or three months tops. Yeah, right. It's been fifteen months now.
rodwayne 05-21-2005, 09:36 PM It depend on what is going to be on thoes mini-marathons.It probably will be the same ol' bull :cuss: Well here's my dream list of shows that I wish that they would show:
MOMDAY:That Girl
TUESDAY:Father knows Best
THURSDAY:Silver Spoon(Another new old show)
FRIDAY:Land Of The Lost(Going way out feild on this one)
It's a fool dream,I know!Esspecially Land Of The Lost(70's version). It take real guts and imagination to program shows, not just go after the 18-24 year old group that been brainwash on reality farces, and every other bad T.V./movies that been shown to them.Too bad we all can't be happy :angryfire No.3 is suppose to be Dif'frent Strokes.I kept trying to put it on the list, but for some reason,it kept messing up,so I took it off the main list and put it here.
Scoobiedoo30 05-22-2005, 01:05 AM I am glad that TV Land is going to have Mina Marathon 7 day's a week
from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Collinwood2003 05-22-2005, 03:07 AM That showcase section is really what classic tv is all about. The Patty Duke show, the odd couple. Is this a sign that some of these shows will be returning? Man I just love welcome back kotter and the Jeffersons. That girl would be nice to see and different strokes.
Collinwood2003 05-22-2005, 03:13 AM I love Knots landing more than Dallas. I sure am thankful to soapnet showing the epsiodes pretty much unedited. Last month I was flipping channels and saw the CMT channel had the dukes of hazzard. I haven't seen Amen since Tbs took it off a couple years ago. Mama's family has been on forever.
Collinwood2003 05-22-2005, 03:17 AM I just thought of Alice that would be great to see to.
Madness 05-22-2005, 03:34 AM Booooo to dropping the 8pm airing of Highway to Heaven:( That's usually the time I can catch it.
I knew it was a matter of time but hey at least it's still on!:)

And that, my friends, is what I'll be taping on this lovely weekend. Probably more, if I get to the store to get some blank tapes! That's 9 hours! I hope I'll be able to pull it off!
That's gonna be some great Falcon Crest stuff, those two episodes are the 1983-1984 season finale and 1984-1985 season premiere! When primetime soaps were in their heyday! Knots Landing's pilot is going to be wonderful, though I would have preferred a season two episode with Donna Mills as Abby Cunningham. Dallas's offering isn't a surprise at all, it's of course the episode where JR gets shot at the end of the 1979-1980 season. Sisters, I'm looking forward to, since I've never seen it. Definitely taping the pilot.
Alice, I haven't seen in years, so that'll be wonderful! And Hogan Family too!
ClassicTV4Ever 05-23-2005, 07:00 PM OMG!!! They're showing episodes of Valerie and The Hogan Family!!! YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! My DVD recorder is going to be so freaking busy that weekend!!
And I'd also like to add that the Movie of The Week thing sounds so awesome. I've always wanted to see Sybil, Helter Skelter, and The Day After. I'll definitely be recording those (I know The Day After and Helter Skelter are out on DVD but I don't want to buy them if I don't know if I will like them). And what makes this more exciting is that it looks like these will be the unedited versions.
spunkygirl 05-23-2005, 07:03 PM OMG!!! They're showing episodes of Valerie and The Hogan Family!!! YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! My DVD recorder is going to be so freaking busy that weekend!!
Mine too  ;)
OK so I made a tape list of everything I plan on taping next month! I got up to 14 hours with the stuff that I know that I'm definitely taping so far...

JT, you might want to watch Valerie on the WB event. It's Hogan Family, pre-Sandy Duncan.
Oh I know, but I decided to only tape one episode, and Sandy's episodes are the ones I remember the most, but hey, if I find that I have extra room, I'll tape Val's ep too!
Skywalker 05-23-2005, 08:14 PM This is great news!!! I can't wait! I haven't seen a lot of those shows in a long time. I'm especially looking forward to seeing Valerie/Hogan Family, Alice, Dallas, Love, Sidney and Eight is Enough.

dawsongirl 05-23-2005, 09:31 PM Wait a minute...where's Route 66?? It was part of the Nick at Nite Anniversary and now it's not listed. OMG...if TV Land dumped it, they can burn in hell.

Oh, even MORE LITB and S&S? Bad move, IMO.
megamanj2004 06-01-2005, 06:34 PM This is going to be great! The Hogan Family at last! I finally get to see it on something other than PAX TV! When PAX aired it, (I know this is going to be a bit off topic but I can't help it!) they cut off the closing credits and not to mention edited some parts of the show.
Hooray for the WB anniversary and to the fact that there's a pre-Sandy Duncan ep. as well!
I also can't wait to see Kotter, Chico, Dallas, Knots, Wonder Woman, and even Alice! Later on there's Silver Spoons, Facts of Life, Benson and Spenser: for Hire! :D :D :D !!!
I just wish and hope that the Hogan Family will be one of those six shows that TV Land will be picking up later this year b/c the two we already will be seeing come July and August to TV Land are: Good Times and Night Court!
Has anyone seen TV Land Top 10? I just the episode for tv stars that went on to become movie stars.
How in the world, does Eddie Murphy not make the list. He was a big movie star, after being "the star" of Saturday Night Live in the early 80's. And no SNL alumni was ever as big as a movie star as Eddie was in his prime.
Dean Winchester 06-02-2005, 05:22 AM Has anyone seen TV Land Top 10? I just the episode for tv stars that went on to become movie stars.

that entire list was a joke to me. I think SNL cast members were disqualified... even tho that doesn't explain why Jim Carrey on In Living Color was eligible.
How in the world did Clint Eastwood and Michael Douglas fail to make this list? Those two have FAR eclipsed Helen Hunt and Jennifer Aniston (both of which are still better known for their tv shows than for their filmwork, even if Hunt won an Oscar). Hell, I'd go as far as to say Clint should've been #1 above Tom Hanks. Clint's had one of those careers that everytime you think he's in the wash-up pile, comes back with another movie that puts him back on top bigger than before.
Dean Winchester 06-02-2005, 05:28 AM the Tickled Pink special was a fun watch, even tho I know certain people complained because they feel that the realization that gay men watch tv too is "shoving politics down their throat". Wow, gay men admitting they love The Golden Girls and Bewitched is really pushing gay marriage down your throat!
However, I was miffed at one mention. They showed clips of all these 90's and today younger prime-time soaps and saying "these shows have no gay followers", AND THEY WERE SHOWING PICS OF MELROSE PLACE AT THE TIME!!!! Melrose was to the 90's with gay men what Dynasty was in the 80's!!!! I don't know many gay men who weren't watching Melrose in it's day. They also showed a picture of One Tree Hill. My boyfriend is gay, 26 (which definately means he's out of the target age range for the show), and WORSHIPS Chad Michael Murray and One Tree Hill. There is a gay audience for the show.
I never realized how much my taste mirror "typical gay classics". I got into shows like Buffy, Sex And The City and Desperate Housewives because I fell in love with the plots and characters, not because they were "gay icons".
All in all, a fun hour.

I agree with that last bit. Many of the shows covered in the special are some of my favorites, and I'm not completely gay, just bi. I liked how they mentioned that all of the primetime soaps of the 80s had loyal gay followings (though I did notice that when they mentioned "Falcon Crest," they showed a "Knots Landing" cast picture).
Of the shows on the special, I love "Dynasty," "Desperate Housewives," "Bewitched," "Cagney and Lacey," "I Dream of Jeannie," "The Carol Burnett Show," "Wonder Woman," "Hollywood Squares" and some of the others that aren't coming to me right now.
Those "Xena" clips were scary as hell though! All of that weird smiling and that weird noise she makes when she jumps somebody's ass...
Moonlit_Suburb 06-06-2005, 01:38 AM We're getting an episode of both Valerie and The Hogan Family?! Hell yeah!
BTW, that show has one of my favorite themes of all time...
Life is such a sweet insanity
The more you learn the less you know
In the heart of every family
There's a love that starts by letting go...
Step by step and day by day
Reaching out along the way
Hand in hand we face our fears
Together through the years...
We've got closer
Through happines and tears
And in our hearts we share
The laughter and the sadness
A special kind of madness
Together through the years...
Life is such a sweet insanity
It's nice to know your friends are near
In the heart of every family
There's a love that's waiting there for you
Through the years...
rodwayne 06-06-2005, 10:54 AM Glad to see that the WB special is up and running again. This is going to be quite a busy month with all of these specials going on.I couldn't agree more about the Top Ten"Small Screen,Big Screen Star"(hope I got the title right!).Clint Eastwood should have been on the list considering he just won the Oscar for Million Dollar Baby, and was on a long running show;NOT a show that was on for 1 to 2 years.
Dean Winchester 06-06-2005, 04:19 PM very true about Clint.
In all fairness, the list should've looked something like this (no SNL)
1. Clint Eastwood
2. Tom Hanks
3. Michael Douglas
4. Denzel Washington
5. Robin Williams
6. Johnny Depp
7. Jim Carrey
8. Will Smith
9. George Clooney (belongs on the list, but he was a little too high on TV Land's)
10. Danny DeVito
Unlike people like Helen Hunt and Jennifer Aniston, who are still better known for their tv shows than any one movie, and not counting the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio (who was only on Growing Pains one season) or people who had one flop sitcom that was axed after a month and went onto become somebody. These actors all were well-known as tv stars... and then went Hollywood and became even bigger, so much bigger to the extent that you might actually forget their tv shows when looking back at their resumes. If Jamie Foxx keeps the work up, he'll definately be on this list too very soon.

TELEVISION'S TWISTED TWOSOME JOIN
TV LAND FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY
Network Celebrates the June 28th DVD Release of
Ren & Stimpy: Seasons Three and a Halfish with
Hilarious Four-Episode Marathon
Santa Monica, CA, June 9, 2005 - The twisted misadventures of insane
Chihuahua, "Ren," and his "eediot" sidekick feline, "Stimpy," join TV Land
for one night only when the network airs a two-hour marathon of the duo's
most memorable episodes on Friday, June 17 from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m. ET/PT. The
incredibly successful, animated series, which developed a huge cult
following, is filled with bizarre antics and delivers non-stop humor to fans
of all ages.
The series features a mismatch made in animation heaven with "Ren," a
temperamental and headstrong Chihuahua, and "Stimpy," a loyal and trusting
cat. The two find themselves in impossible situations and exhibit often
gross and shocking behavior. Together, they get up to all sorts of wacky
antics, from going into space to acting as door-to-door rubber nipples
salesmen. Although it launched on Nickelodeon in 1991, the show's main
audience was college and university students, who quickly tapped into its
subversive nature and excellent characterization. The Ren & Stimpy Show
earned an Emmy nomination in 1993. Creator John Kricfalusi (John K.)
provided the voice for "Ren Höek" (1991-1993), "Mr. Horse" (1991-1993) as
well as other characters. Billy West provided the voices for Stimpson J.
"Stimpy" Cat (1991-1996), "Ren Höek" (1992-1996), "Mr. Horse" (1992-1996),
"Svën Höek" (1992), "hey, it's That Guy" (1991-1995), "Mr. Pipe" (1991-1993)
and others.
The Ren & Stimpy: Seasons Three and a Halfish DVD is a three-disc boxed set
featuring all the classic episodes from the Third (and half of the fourth)
seasons of Ren & Stimpy. In addition to 17 historical cartoons, the DVD
includes audio commentary from John K. and the Spumco Animation team. For
the first time ever, viewers will be able to learn what actually happened to
"Ren & Stimpy" both before and after John K's infamous departure. And if
that isn't enough, the DVD also features in-character commentary from "Ren &
Stimpy" themselves, as Stimpson J. Cat and Ren Höek provide their own unique
brand of twisted insight on their cartoon adventures.
The following is the schedule for The Ren & Stimpy marathon (all times
ET/PT):
12:00am #1 - Space Madness/The Boy who Cried Rat

and are ordered to report to a sergeant who shouts orders that Stimpy can
only understand while Ren tries his hardest to slack off.

Powdered Toastman, a hero who saves a cat, rescues the pope, and helps the
president.
1:00am #22 - Stimpy's Cartoon Show/Flod

Wilber Cobb escapes from prison to come along with them.
MikeLutton 06-11-2005, 03:42 PM hey it be great if some of these shows can stay on tvland as part of their regular line up.mean could be better then ones they got now.
Pav, I'm watching Sisters right now, and I'm loving it, but I have to say, TVLand is airing the wrong episode. Right now "Dear Georgie" is on. I looked at my onscreen guide and it says that "Moving In, Moving Out, Moving On" airs tomorrow. It's not a problem at all, but I was just wondering if that was the original plan or something....
Chelsea 06-11-2005, 04:40 PM My guide still has Dear Georgie as airing tomorrow - personally, I wouldn't mind a bit for it to be wrong. Having seen one episode, I'd actually be disappointed to see the same one tomorrow - I'm liking this show, and want to see another one.

They changed the episode last minute. I think I edited the first post to reflect this change a few days ago. They couldn't air #1 for some reason, so #49 will air BOTH days.
Aw, that's too bad. I really liked this episode, but I really wanted to get the pilot on tape. But I am LOVING this show. It kinda reminds me of "Homefront" but in a contemporary setting. I hope someone picks it up!
barwars 06-11-2005, 05:18 PM damn, I forgot all about this.

Joker85 06-11-2005, 06:09 PM It was good to see episodes of Alice, Sisters, and Life Goes On again. And I can't wait to see the John Larroquette Show! I used to love it when it was originally on, haven't seen an ep since it was cancelled though. I also caught the first Mayberry RFD which I'd never seen before so that was cool.
TVJunkie101 06-11-2005, 07:47 PM I love seeing all of these shows again. Warner Brothers could easily start up a television station, IMO, lol.
I've pretty much been watching (and taping) since 10AM (Wonder Woman). I skipped The Waltons and Jack and Bobby. Since most of the shows are reruned tomorrow, I may actually get some things done, LOL. But it's been great watching this marathon. I LOVED seeing F Troop again. I haven't seen the show since it was on N@N in the mid 90s. Seeing Alice was another highlight of the day. I am still so surprised no network has picked up at least half of these shows. Alice could easily be added to N@N or hell, even TV Land. I think it would do great.
Sigh. LOL. I'm in TV heaven. I can't wait for Perfect Strangers, Hogan Family, Falcon Crest, Dallas: JR Returns, etc.
As much as I like Melrose Place and 90210, I wish SOAPNET would bring back Sisters, Falcon Crest and the other soaps they originally aired from 2000-2003.
I think Sisters would be PERFECT for Oxygen or WE. It would fit so perfectly on Oxygen, especially with their obsession with horny women and their sexual fantasies, LOL.
L&OFan4Eva 06-11-2005, 08:30 PM I've recorded already everything on this marathon so far. Sisters was good, The John Larroqette Show was funnier than anything on TV currently, Life Goes On I'm already addicted to, Alice and F Troop was as good as I remember. Can't wait for the Eight is Enough doubleheader. Tomorrow looks great! Hogan Family, Perfect Strangers, more Life Goes On and John Larroqette. And Monday morning will be must see! China Beach was the best and so was La Femme Nikita. I suggest that TV Land does another WB 50th 50-Hour Marathon before the year is out. Can you suggest this to the powers that be, pavanbadal? For us?
TVJunkie101 06-11-2005, 09:20 PM I agree, JT, that Sisters would fit the best on Oxygen. I'm still pretty surprised so many of these great shows are just collecting dust in the vaults. It's a shame. I guess the most we can hope for are DVD releases. It would be nice if Warner was using this marathon to gauge interest in possible DVD releases. But I doubt that's even crossed their minds. But they sure are promoting the ones they ARE releasing, LOL.
Pavan 06-11-2005, 10:24 PM I had forgotten how good Life Goes On is. That show needs to be on the air somewhere, or at least a DVD release.
So how many different DVD commericals has everyone seen? I saw Gilmore Girls, Gilligan's Island, Wonder Woman. What else? I know Lois & Clark DVD was supposed to be promoted on this, but haven't seen it, or must have missed it.
TVJunkie101 06-11-2005, 10:30 PM I've seen Gilmore Girls, Wonder Woman, Lois & Clark, Murphy Brown, Night Court, Gilligan's Island. I think that's all I've caught. The Lois & Clark promo, I think, aired during the John Larroquette/Murphy Brown hour. That's when I caught it at least.
Mr. Television 06-11-2005, 10:35 PM I had forgotten how good Life Goes On is. That show needs to be on the air somewhere, or at least a DVD release.

It was promoted during the Adv. Of Superman this morning.
L&OFan4Eva 06-11-2005, 10:38 PM So, pavan, any chance of another WB marathon soon?
Pavan 06-11-2005, 10:46 PM So, pavan, any chance of another WB marathon soon?
I don't think so. Warner Bros. gave TV Land free access to this marathon, so it is up to them.
L&OFan4Eva 06-11-2005, 11:06 PM Cool. *crosses fingers* When will we know whether or not the ratings were high?
KJH278 06-12-2005, 12:04 AM TV land just cut off the last few mins of An Eight is Enough Wedding for falocn crest
KJH278 06-12-2005, 12:39 AM Disregard my last post TVLAND did not cut off the end of An Eight is enough Wedding, I must had my dvr player on pause
greenlaser5555 06-12-2005, 12:48 AM I have already recorded "Chico And The Man", "Alice", "Scarecrow And Mrs. King", "Life Goes On", "The John Larroquette Show", and "Falcon Crest". I didn't need to record "Welcome Back, Kotter" because I have already recorded an episode when it was on the TV Land Kitschen. But I can't wait until "Valerie/Hogan Family", "Perfect Strangers", "Head of The Class", "Love, Sidney", and most definitely Spenser: For Hire!!!
Joker85 06-12-2005, 12:52 AM Ok. Now I REALLY want Life Goes On and The John Larroquette Show to come out on DVD. God I forgot how great these shows are! I hope the ratings were high enough that WB might think about it.
PrettyinPink55 06-12-2005, 02:36 AM I so want them to show Life Goes On again! And bring back The Wonder Years and The Facts of Life!
My report on what I've watched so far...
"Wonder Woman" - I wasn't really paying attention at first, so when I really started to watch, I didn't understand much. I watched it later on during the day and really loved it. Lynda Carter and Lyle Waggoner were GREAT together
"Chico and the Man" - ugh I didn't like this episode. I catch it sometimes on AmericanLife and it's good most of the time, but there are so many blah episodes for me, like this one
"Welcome Back Kotter" - despite the fact I've seen this episode like 10 times, I loved it again
"Alice" - even though I wish they would have picked a BETTER EPISODE (hello! Either "Block Those Kicks" or "Oh, God!" would have been better, along with a lot of others), it was great seeing the gang again! Flo and Vera had some great oneliners, especially Flo's "I've never been to a stakeout. Is it like a weenie roast?" Loved it!
"Scarecrow and Mrs. King" - WOW! I forgot how much I LOVED this show on Pax! I never saw the first ep before, but it quickly became my favorite! It was wonderful!
"Sisters" - I already talked enough about this one! Loved it!
"Life Goes On" - Sugars: 10000000 g. It was still entertaining, though.
"Eight is Enough" - LOVED IT! I watched it a few times on Pax back in the day but never really understood it, but watching it now, it was just plain awesome! I loved that opening sequence too!
"Falcon Crest" - oh...my...god....I am stunned, still. That was effing incredible! EFFING INCREDIBLE! I've watched it twice so far and I thoroughly enjoyed it, every single second of it, from the shot of Angela Channing's limo cruising on the Golden Gate Bridge right up to that awesome shot of Angela praying on the airplane as it went down for a crash landing! Now THAT is an awesome season finale! I can't wait to see the conclusion tonight! And the BEAUTIFUL Ana Alicia was just terrific as that scheming vixen Melissa Agretti Cumson
"Valerie" - though it was very much like the other 80s family sitcoms of the day ("Growing Pains" and "Family Ties" quickly came to mind), it was still very good. I was surprised that I actually laughed out loud too, because normally with shows like this, when I find something funny, I just smile, but I truly laughed.
"Harry O" - didn't really watch because I had to do some other things, but then I remembered that it airs on AmericanLife on Monday nights, so I'm bound to catch it there one day
"Love, Sidney" - it was probably just this episode, but I didn't like it at all. Too much singing and there seemed to be a lack of plot
"The Hogan Family" - just as good as "Valerie" so far
So for today, I'm looking forward to watching (and taping)...
Sisters (had to tape over yesterday's airing because I didn't edit out commercials so I'll just tape it again today with them)
Life Goes On
Third Watch
Dallas: "JR Returns"
Dallas
Knots Landing
Falcon Crest ("Requiem")
Scarecrow and Mrs. King ("All the World's a Stage")
But again, what an EXCELLENT marathon! 100% positively EXCELLENT. The only problem I have is that they keep showing that damn thing at the bottom of the screen the "This is a weekend of WARNER BROS. shows!" thing and the "Next Up" and "After That" things are annoying too, because they are in a completely different style than they usually are, and TVLand is actually showing them in the middle of opening sequences, which annoys me, because I like to see people's names...
And I've seen the DVD promos too. They are VERRRY slick in the way they are doing them, too! Wonder Woman's DVD was promoted during the actual show and during a lot of other things I watched. Lois and Clark was promoted during Superman yesterday morning. Night Court and Murphy Brown were promoted during Murphy Brown and The John Larroquette Show. Dallas was promoted during Sisters and Falcon Crest. Full House has been promoted during everything, it seems...
spunkygirl 06-12-2005, 01:20 PM OMG It's so great to see Valerie/The Hogan Family again, and Perfect Strangers, these shows are so good, I am positively baffled as to why they're not in syndication
L&OFan4Eva 06-12-2005, 01:25 PM Hopefully this'll get the cable stations to acquire these great shows. I can't wait for Head of the Class! And have you seen some of the shows (especially Life Goes On and Scarecrow and Mrs. King)? They look remastered so maybe they're all ready to go to be acquired.
Mr. Television 06-12-2005, 01:29 PM I have no idea why these shows aren't syndicated more. Perfect Strangers, Head Of The Class and The Hogan Family are all great shows and I always loved Love Sydney. I know their were only 39 episodes but it should be released on DVD, afterall it was Tony Randalls last series.
So far I am enjoying the Warner Brothers marathon. Though I wish some of the shows I wanted to see were not so late at night.
Question about Falcon Crest episode, was Apollonia in that episode? I don't think I saw her.
Love Sidney, I never saw this show till now. But it is another example of being too much like the old character. His character was exactly like Felix Unger, only did not have Oscar Madison to play off of.
Perfect Strangers that was a very underrated show. Very funny.
Head Of The Class, another underrated show. Not as good as Kotter, but still very good. The epsiode they showed in the marathon had a lot of fantasy sequences, or sketches. A couple of the castmembers went on to create and produce All That. I wonder if this particular episode planted the seed for All That?
spunkygirl 06-12-2005, 02:20 PM Sisters now that's a show that deserves to be on DVD and in syndication. It is so underrated, but very brilliantly written IMO. I wish SOAPnet would pick it up again, or even Lifetime Real Women Channel
Mr. Television 06-12-2005, 02:23 PM Sisters now that's a show that deserves to be on DVD and in syndication. It is so underrated, but very brilliantly written IMO. I wish SOAPnet would pick it up again, or even Lifetime Real Women Channel
I never really watched it much when it was originally on but I must say I enjoyed the episode that aired yesterday. I wouldn't mind seeing more.
Sean Snow 06-12-2005, 03:44 PM So far I've really been enjoying the marathon!
I enjoyed the Wonder Woman episode. It was the first time I've ever seen the show.
I didn't really like the Alice episode. The plot was pretty dumb, and the show failed to really make any impression on me.
Ah, I wish a network would air Sisters again. I used to watch it back when it was on SOAPnet, and yeah - it's totally underrated and really well-written.
Life Goes On was great. I'd love to see it on TV Land regularly or on DVD.
I've only seen a few episodes of Eight is Enough before, and it's better than I remembered it being.
Ah! I was most excited about seeing Falcon Crest. I didn't watch it regularly on SOAPnet but would tune in on occasion. It was great seeing Angela, Maggie, Richard, and Melissa again. Can't wait for the other episode that's airing today.
Valerie/The Hogan Family and Love, Sidney were both decent. I think out of the two I liked 'Sidney' better, although the episode they showed had a pretty weak plot and it completely revolved around the guest star's singing.
barwars 06-12-2005, 08:42 PM Perfect Strangers and Head of the Class were great, as usual. Always fun to see those again.
Valerie/The Hogan Family was very good. Today was the first time I saw the series. Surprisingly, I prefered The Hogan Family episode.
Love, Sidney was an interesting show. Nowhere as good as The Odd Couple, but it was lighthearted fun. And I agree, too much singing.
But really, the whole point of this post is....
The John Larroquette Show!!
How ****ing hilarious was THAT?! Brilliant. I've always been a fan of Larroquette, but never seen his "own" series. This was just genius. One of the funniest half hours of TV I've seen in a long time. I'd pick this up on DVD in an instant. I'm hoping the episode airing tonight is as good, but I hear it got considerably worse following the first season. Which is a real shame, this could easily be a favorite if it stayed as good as the pilot.
L&OFan4Eva 06-12-2005, 09:25 PM I agree, barwars. The pilot was the funniest episode of TV that decade IMO. However, beware the following seasons. You could literally hear NBC trying to rein in those years. But the one thing that made me smile was that the show was justifyably put to death a fourth into season 4 because the last episode before it got pulled was so horrible I covered my face in a sense of defeat.
Chelsea 06-12-2005, 10:10 PM I agree, barwars.
Just got through watching the 3rd-season episode that was just on - it was still pretty good....not even remotely as good as the pilot, but it was still decent.
barwars 06-13-2005, 07:45 AM Just got through watching the 3rd-season episode that was just on - it was still pretty good....not even remotely as good as the pilot, but it was still decent.
I completely agree. It's a real shame.
My thoughts on yesterday's stuff...
Eight is Enough (The Return of Auntie V) - this episode wasn't as good as "Trial Marriage," but it was still very good! I enjoyed the whole "Will they or won't they move?" aspect of it
Dallas: JR Returns - surprisingly, I LOVED this! I absolutely loved it! JR wasn't as bastardly as he was 'back in the old days' but he was still a sneaky SOB! Great storyline/plot. I really enjoyed it.
Dallas (A House Divided) - GAAAAAAH! I LOVED IT TO DEATH! What a BASTARD JR was in this episode! And Jock, as always, being his bitch. The entire cast was featured in this episode, except for Steve Kanaly, so it was very very fun to watch.
Knots Landing (Series Pilot) - KNOTS!!!!!!!!! I 100% loved it! 100%! So much happened in this episode, and it should be noted that the episode depicted, roughly, Gary and Val's first 24 hours in Knots Landing, California. Karen Allen was great as Sid's daughter Annie and I looooooooved Michele Lee as Karen! I wish Laura and Richard were featured more, but the rest of it was all good!!
Falcon Crest - yet another great episode! The conclusion to the cliffhanger was chilling to watch, as the helicopter kept leaving and coming back
More later...
vashti1999 06-13-2005, 07:30 PM Can one of you kill me please? I damn missed the whole thing!!! I didn't know it was this weekend.
*shoots you as you come out of your office*
Good enough? Now no one will know if you live or die or who shot you until the fall!
DishManTV 06-13-2005, 08:55 PM I would like to thank WARNER BROTHERS for allowing TVLAND to broadcast these great shows from the past, I hope it will be a regular thing, and maybe TVLAND can get the rights to air these and other great WB shows from the past...
I would love to see Mr. Belverder !!!
spunkygirl 06-14-2005, 02:55 PM Can one of you kill me please? I damn missed the whole thing!!! I didn't know it was this weekend.
:eek2: I think you suffered enough, so I won't shoot you :(

I purposely avoided the marathon (with the exception of "John Larroquette", "Perfect Strangers" and "The Hogan Family"). When I see all these shows again, it gets me in the mood to watch more episodes. But of course, there are no more episodes on the schedule. "Life Goes On" was always one of my favorite shows, but I skipped it, because I didn't want to get back into the show and only have like two episodes on tape to watch.
With all that said, this was the first weekend that TV Land actually had an interesting lineup. If this was an every weekend thing, I'd tape alot of those shows. I'm not trying to bash westerns, but I get tired of the Gunsmoke and Bonanza marathons each weekend. The weekends should be filled with more variety.

The whole schedule should be filled with more variety, if you ask me. I wonder if any of this weekend's shows are going to be one of the sitcoms that Pav announces later on...
L&OFan4Eva 06-15-2005, 03:46 PM I thought all the aquisitions were announced already, but who cares! I want more new shows!
I thought all the aquisitions were announced already, but who cares! I want more new shows!
I believe there's three more shows coming.
L&OFan4Eva 06-15-2005, 05:16 PM Three more shows? To N@N or TV Land? 'Cuz I want TV Land to stay 50s-80s and N&N to do '90s stuff. But I wouldn't mind if TV Land did one or two 90s shows as long as it doesn't take over the schedule.
Pavan 06-17-2005, 05:13 PM Surprisingly, the ratings for the Warner marathon were not as high as the regular weekend line-up with the Westerns. So, this marathon was not one for the books for TV Land. That is why no press release came this week to hype the ratings. I think the marathon was up 30% from a year ago among adults 25-34, other than that, a big bust. But who cares, I enjoyed the hell out of it!

L&OFan4Eva 06-17-2005, 05:19 PM It's kinda sad that the boring westerns were higher than the WB marathon. But as everyone else would say, I loved every second of it. Kudos, TV Land and WBTV for bringing the fans some great programming.
TVJunkie101 06-17-2005, 05:29 PM Wow, that sucks the ratings weren't that good for the marathon. Oh well.
I agree with everyone: who cares? LOL. I enjoyed it as well. I loved every minute of it for the most part.
I hope the N@N anniversary marathon weekend does better...
And I for one can't believe the Westerns are higher rated but I guess lots of people like them... I've never been a fan of westerns, except for sitcom westerns (F Troop) or movies.
Pav, any idea which shows were the highest rated, or does TV Land not bother to release it?
Wow that is surprising. Over at TVLand.com's boards, a lot of the shows from the marathon were suggested to join the lineup (Scarecrow and Mrs. King got, by far, the HIGHEST amount of votes it seems).
KJH278 06-19-2005, 02:30 AM I can't wait for Dobie Gillis
Mr. Television 06-19-2005, 02:39 AM I guess most of the viewers out there like to watch the same old shows all the time. I like seeing different shows.
Nik_Land_Freakazoid 06-25-2005, 03:59 PM hello, out there... Thanks for the lineup information. This sucks they will not show fernwood2nite, or laugh-in. However I am appreciative of theones they will show. I hate all in the family btw. UM I SAW DIXIE THE FLYING PIXIE this morning... and I just want to say Praise the Lord... there is a God. You have no idea how long I have waited to see her. Since 1989, I was just a kid, and they took her from me. Broke my heart, stomped on my heart when they went full color. Once again thanks for the information peeps.
barwars 06-26-2005, 08:52 AM You know what I just realized with this 20th Anniversary special??
Both Newhart and The Wonder Years aired as far back as 1997, yet nobody seemed to care. And they both aired into the 90s.
ClassicTVHits 06-26-2005, 10:07 AM What do you mean no one seemed to care?

Thank you very much.
Whenever LucyFan would go on his endless anti-80s tirades, we'd remind him that one of his favorite shows, TWY, aired on NAN in 1998, just FIVE years after being cancelled. What did he say in reply? "Well it took place in the 60s/70s so it is just as old as the other shows!"
Look out, everyone, "That 70s Show" and "American Dreams" will be joining TVLand's lineup this Fall!*
* - Not really.

here here! I always hated it when LucyFan would go on and on about how "Nick got too current when they acquired The Facts Of Life in 2000". FOL premiered in 1979.... N@N acquired Mork And Mindy, which premiered in 1978, only one year prior, in 1991!!! and also Taxi, which premiered in 1978 as well, made it's N@N debut in 1994. Both of those shows were more recent when they made their debuts on Nick than FOL was.... yet LucyFan went on trips complaining about how FOL was too current for the show (Mork had ended 9 years prior, and Taxi 11 years prior.... FOL had been off a dozen years when it made it's Nick debut).
However, I do think Nick HAS gotten too recent lately. I think they could've held off until around 2008-2009 before acquiring 90's shows. The 60's had about 6-7 years on N@N, followed by another 7-8 for the 70's when MTM and Mork and co. premiered... yet N@N only spent about 2 1/2 years with 80's shows before they decided to get shows that had ended only 6-7 years prior. As much as I love Roseanne, I think it should still be on TBS. Right now, N@N should be airing shows like ALF, Silver Spoons, Kate And Allie, Night Court and 227.... not shows like Fresh Prince, Full House and Roseanne, and shows like Mad About You and Home Improvement which ended right before the turn of the millennium are on the way (what Nick, why didn't you go ahead and get Friends and Raymond?).
I know these shows get ratings, but people forget that N@N is supposed to be a nostalgia channel, how are people really nostalgic for Full House when the Olsen's aren't yet 20, or nostalgic for Fresh Prince when Will Smith has a top 10 single out? Plus, N@N is the second to last step to the graveyard for these shows, usually they leave Nick, then go to TV Land and then that is IT unless we're lucky enough to get a DVD release. So many of these shows on this weekend haven't aired anywhere in years, it was nice seeing Donna Reed and My Three Sons again because it's not like anybody else will air them.
spunkygirl 06-26-2005, 03:16 PM Well said :) I bet before long N@N will acquire Friends, Frasier and Everybody Loves Raymond
Dean Winchester 06-26-2005, 03:19 PM Well said :) I bet before long N@N will acquire Friends, Frasier and Everybody Loves Raymond
I honestly think that now, Seinfeld, which ended in 1998, is probably "too old" for N@N to acquire, lol.
spunkygirl 06-26-2005, 03:22 PM LOL I don't know, I bet if they could get it, they would ;) But I think TBS has the rights for a long while.
Adamantium 06-26-2005, 04:37 PM You know what I just realized with this 20th Anniversary special??
Both Newhart and The Wonder Years aired as far back as 1997, yet nobody seemed to care. And they both aired into the 90s.
I remember telling my parents that N@N was airing their first show that was made after I was born, "Newhart". The show started in 1982 and I was born in 1981. As for "The Wonder Years", yeah I thought that was weird, but it was a show about the sixties. And besides, I would have been ticked off, if more shows from the late 80's and early 90's came on around that time. But "The Wonder Years" was the only exception (at that time). I didn't start complaining about N@N's lineup until after "The Cosby Show" came. Not because of "The Cosby Show", but it was after that when "Full House", "Fresh Prince", "Roseanne" and the rest came to N@N.
Adamantium 06-26-2005, 04:39 PM here here! I guess time goes by so fast. Sometimes, I forget we're living in 2005. I was born in 1981. So any show that was made before that year seemed right for Nick at Nite. Now shows that were new when I was a kid are airing on N@N and it just seems weird. It makes me feel older.
Now that I'm older than I was, say 7-9 years ago, I know of and have seen basically every show that N@N picks up. The last time they picked up a show that I had never seen before was when they picked up "Cheers" in 2001, but even then, I saw a part of an episode.
Back around 1995-2000, almost every show they picked up, I had never saw (sometimes never even heard of!) until they picked it up. I have sooooooooooo many memories of staying up late on weekends and discovering "That Girl" and "Rhoda." I remember I'd always fall asleep right before "The Bob Newhart Show" would come on, and me, being like 6 years old, I thought the show was called "Bob's New Heart" and I thought it was about a guy who lost his heart and found a new one! And I still remember being shocked to see that "Phyllis" even existed. I had no idea that she had her own show! I remember when the previews for "WKRP in Cincinnati" started playing and I had absolutely no idea what it was and never ever heard of it before. Same with "The Wonder Years" and "Laverne and Shirley".
I also remember those Casey Kasem Top 25 Countdowns. It was a rare chance for me to see even more shows I had never heard of or saw, like "Dobie Gillis" and "Julia". This was waaaaaaaay before I had the Internet, so everything was basically new to me.
And now I'm babbling on here about all my old N@N memories. It kinda makes me sad...
But then again, TVLand's 10th anniversary is next summer, and I just wonder what they're planning for that!
TVJunkie101 06-26-2005, 06:50 PM I hope TV Land goes all out for their 10th anniversary marathon. They did do a decent job with their 5th anniversary, so...
I agree, I loved watching N@N back in the 90s. I always *had* to watch I Love Lucy and all the other shows. I watched N@N all of the time.
Of course, this marathon is missing a lot of shows but I've been happy with what was shown, for the most part.
And I agree with the poster who said N@N rushed to the 90s a bit too soon. I would have loved to see a really nice lineup of pure 80s shows. I thought for sure they would be going that route and then bam, here come the 90s. Sure I love Fresh Prince and Roseanne but...
Brent88 06-26-2005, 07:27 PM Nice to see The Jeffersons again... hopefully it'll be back on TV Land soon. *hint, hint*
USTVFanFromUK 06-26-2005, 08:35 PM I honestly think that now, Seinfeld, which ended in 1998, is probably "too old" for N@N to acquire, lol.
I think N@N would kill to have a show like 'Seinfeld' join its network. I bet once Seinfeld's contract with TBS expires, they'll do their best to try to acquire it. I heard they spent a ton of money on Cheers, I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same for Seinfeld.

N@N in 2010:
8 episodes of Seinfeld
6 episodes of Raymond
6 episodes of Friends
nothing more, nothing less

What a weekend I got to see shows that i never seen in a longtime or before like Monkees, Alfred Hitchcock, Make Room for Daddy, Patty Duke, Odd Couple, Get Smart. ;)
TV DVD Fan 06-27-2005, 05:46 PM unfortunately i hardly got to see any of it except for a snippet of Rhoda part 2, and GI.
pat
EricIdlefan 06-28-2005, 01:53 PM Get ready for the soda, popcorn, and candy for the upcoming tv movies of the week, which reminds me that I will tape them to keep. Thanks for the info my friends!
Dean Winchester 06-28-2005, 03:04 PM was anybody shocked by how bad the prints for Rhoda looked? They showed that and a MTM episode from the exact same season (1974-1975) and MTM's aged fairly well picturewise for 30 years old, yet Rhoda was so dark, grainy and you could see the picture wasn't in good shape at all, like as if they used the same print that originally aired in 1974 without even cleaning it.
L&OFan4Eva 06-28-2005, 03:20 PM I agree. I thought those prints were just dreadful. I think 20th should hire some of those remasterers back at Warner Bros. Just about everything in that marathon was cleaned up; I was shocked how clean F Troop looked.
