If Lifetime decided to air brand new UM episodes, who should be the new host?

I don't know why, but I'd pick James Earl Jones, mainly because he has a distinct voice.

I don't want to give any specific names, but I can tell you this: I really don't think it would work to succeed Robert Stack with someone who may be viewed as "too famous." So I'd much rather have it be someone who isn't too well known. When TV shows came back with new hosts, it wasn't unusual for the successor to be someone unknown or vaguely known. It just brings a better sense of freshness to the revival.

Also, it should be someone who is consistently pro-law enforcement, as Robert Stack evidently was. The job of an anti-crime show host is also best suited for someone over the age 40, when they're more likely to have enough sophisication to be fit for the job.

I know he's a busy man, but I really like Bill Kurtis! I think he would be great.

Its just like Pope JP II: you can bring someone in to continue it, but you can never replace him or replace his part of the show.

I would vote the narrator for Forensic Files. He has a creepy voice.

He says he's broke, and what better way to guarantee surging publicity and ratings?

The first segment is a no brainer.

Yeah, the first segment would be the search for the "real" killer or killers of Bonny Lee Bakely.

I say O.J. Simpson.

After all, he is still looking for the "real killers."

What about Maury Povich? He played in an ep. of Wings as a host to a UM like show

I'd cast my vote for a new host for Patrick Stewart. He has a great voice and a commanding presense.Of Course,No One will ever take the place of Robert Stack. He was and will always be the perfect host Of Unsolved Mysteries.

I say O.J. Simpson.

After all, he is still looking for the "real killers."

He plays golf there several times a week, usually starting in early afternoon. I'm originally from Miami and I play that course frequently when I visit Miami these days. It's hardly a swanky course, just a nice public course with green fees in the $20 to $30 range, even less at twilight.

O.J. lives several miles away, very close to a high school called Killian. It's pure suburban Miami. I've also seen him at restaurants and at Costco when I'm there. He's got a voice that booms and he seemingly never shuts up. One time, when it was raining and we both got rained out on the golf course, O.J. sat at the table behind me at a restaurant called Hops and yakked the entire meal. He had three companions who never got a word in. His young son is now a very tall and good looking teenager.

Golf scouting report: O.J. has a lousy swing that could fit in a telephone booth. But a surprisingly good short game. He can barely walk. In fact, it takes him several side-to-side clumsy steps to ascend the tee boxes, which are all of two feet high.

I say let the show RIP. I mean, UM is my favorite show ever, but you cannot recapture the magic that they had in the late 80s, and you definitely cannot replace Robert Stack. It would just feel all weird. What made UM so great was Stack, the music, the eerieness of it all. Everything was so simple. I mean, watching the old episodes, it's hard to imagine THAT airing on NBC prime time TV--it's so different than the flashy ER or CSI--but it DID.

If they did make new episodes, they'd spice up the graphics, theme song, etc. And I don't want that. What made UM so great for me was the simple scariness of it all.

But, if I were to choose a host: Bill Kurtis, the "American Justice" on A&E guy. Perfect.

I mean, if they brought back Monty Python's Flying Circus with a new cast I'm sure I would cringe, certain it would be an inferior disappointment. Same thing with UM. If someone wants to steal the idea and modernize by necessity, or perceived necessity, I'm all for that and I'd watch, but it would probably be preferable with a different name and music and look.
