8 Simple may may not be on Tonight beacuse of the passing of the Pope

Actually... he's not dead yet(false report), but he could die at anytime. When he does, A LOT of programming is going to be pre-empted.

I'll be one pissed off dude if it gets preempted because of that. If the pope dies, obviously it's sad... However, I think the cable news stations can handle the story, and maybe the broadcast stations, like ABC, NBC, etc, can just run a ticker at the bottom of the screen. There is no reason to totally ruin other's viewing schedule.

The guy is the leader of a religion that includes over 1 BILLION(with a B). That's over 3 times as many people that live in the U.S. PERIOD. It's a very big deal.

I totally understand that. I never said it isn't a big deal. I even said that it is sad, which it definitely is. However, to me personally, it's just another person dying. I hate the loss of any innocent life. Why does it need to be on ABC, NBC, CBS, WB, UPN, PBS, CNN, FoxNews, MSNBC, CNBC??? It really doesn't make sense. I want to watch entertaining programming, not sit around and keep hearing about the Pope's death.

Again, I understand it's sad and all. I just don't care about the "pope" aspect of it. I look at it as an innocent person, whose body has been pushed to it's limits, being shot, having parkinson's, etc, dying. A very sad event indeed. However, it really doesn't need to be on any of the broadcast stations in such a manner that it interrupts programming. I don't mind if there is a ticker at the bottom of the screen; that to me is fine. However if it comes up with "ABC News Special Report"... and preempts the whole show; I'll be kinda annoyed.

I am tired of people acting with such disrespect towards Catholics. I am willing to bet you didn't get so annoyed when people made such a big deal over Terri Schiavo's death. Unlike Teri Schiavo, people outside of the Pope's close friends and family CARED who he was before he fell ill.

Pope John Paul II's impending death is as big a deal to many of us as if the president were to die. Just because he isn't the leader of your faith doesn't mean he isn't the one of many of us.

I wonder if you felt this way when Princess Diana died, her death was everywhere that day and interrupted many programs.

Another thing... if it is pre-empted, it will still air. It might be next Friday or Friday in 2 weeks, but it will air.

Unless he passes away (which I don't think will happen by 8pm), the show is still on tonight. ABC has expanded Good Morning America Saturday for tomorrow to two hours, though.

My point is clear, and all you guys are doing is misconstruing; badly at that. I just want to be able to watch TV without having to see Bios on the Pope on every channel. Is that me being intolerant of a religion? Hell no it isn't. I don't care if it's a rabbi, a priest, the pope, a minister, or a grand ayotolah. I have repeatedly said that it's a sad situation. I don't want him to die. I just think that CNN, Fox, and MSNBC can handle the 24hr coverage of it, and the broadcast stations can limit themselves to just a ticker bar at the bottom of the screen during regular broadcasting. Is that so much to ask? And even moreso, is that really hating on a religion?

Actually... they did interrupt for a few minutes yesterday morning when the news came down, but the two aren't comparable.

just out of curiosity. If the president were to die, would you complain about how his death was taking over the television set? If not... why? Pope John Paul II dying is probably globally a bigger deal than if any American president was to pass on.

In my opinion, In recent memory, only 9/11 and the tsunami really were covered appropriately by the 24hr coverage on broadcast stations.

If the President died while in office or if there was just an attempt, the coverage would be extensive. Come on... we're talking about the President here. Arguably the Pope is more important.

Well, I suppose we could argue this all day long. You are right, the coverage would definitely be extensive; I just wish it wouldn't be. As I have said, I have sympathy for the Pope; it's very sad that he is going to die. Personally, I just wish that the 24hr coverage would be left to the 24hr news stations. That's all. I don't say that in disrespect to the Pope, or if it happened to the president, disrespect to him.

Anywho, as I have said, it is indeed sad. I don't mean to offend any catholics, and if I did, that wasn't my intent. :)

Having said all that... I think your almost guaranteed to see 8 Simple Rules tonight. 28 minutes to go.

It was on. And to tell you the truth, I felt like turning it off. I really don't see much hope for this show. Even though all of us here are watching it, it is going to take a lot more people to watch this show in order to keep it going. My sister used to watch it, not anymore. My cousin used to watch it when John was on, not anymore. My Mother on the other hand, does like John Ritter, but she's not a big fan (like I am) she doesn't watch prime time t.v. Everytime I see David Spade, I feel like throwing him in a bathtub, and give him a shave and a haircut,ugh!
