I can't remember which TV show site I read this at, but I guess they filmed a few episodes of Maude for a 1978-79 season? They changed the format of the show with Maude as the only character left from the other seasons. They show was supposed to have had Maude in office and the new characters were all the silly government officials, etc, she had to deal with. Even Walter was no longer on the show because he and Maude separated. Bea Arthur claimed she could no longer play Maude and the show was entirely scrapped after three or four episodes.

I wonder if this footage actually exists? Maybe it wasn't even edited into actual episodes. If we ever (COUGH!) have a Maude release those would be fantastic extras.

This is true. They did go into the new format for a few episodes and Bea Arthur decided she didn't want to continue. the decided use the format for another series about a Congressman with Cleavon Little. when the producers showed it to black congressmen they didn't like it so they scrapped it and revamped it inton "Hanging In" with Bill Macy.

it wouldnt of been fun without Walter on Maude she have nobody yell atr and stuff and it would failed anyway it be jsut like Archie Bunkers place without Edith just not same just my opinoin.
