What did everyone think of Kevin's brother Wayne.
I thought he made the show funny with his insults, who agrees?

Yeah he was funny, but waaaay too much like one of my brothers with the teasing, nuggies and punching!!

Actually I hated him!! (But again, that's how you were supposed to feel towards him so I guess he was great in the role)!

He was amusing, but sometimes he was too much for me to take, and you had to feel for Kevin.I read somewhere that Wayne is hated so much for his TWY character that he got punched in the face in public by someone who despised Wayne!

Yeah that's right! I heard that too! Meanwhile, apparently off screen they got along great and hung out together and would sometimes have people take double-takes on them.

I especially hated Wayne in the hamster in the vacuum episode.

Guys,

I HATED the episode where Wayne threatens to hurt Kevin's hampsters, and later one of them is killed when he gets in the vacum cleaner. After that, I wanted to shoot the jerk!

Same here! That's when I couldn't even empathize with the character anymore. Just wished I could have him sucked into a vacuum!

Guys,

I know this will become an I HATE WAYNE thread!!! LOL (I hope so!!! hehehe)

But I remember that there was some video game made for the Sega Genesis (the original one.) and it was like some shooting gallery game where you would have to hit selectively more difficult targets for points.

I know I am not making this next part up!!! But Jason Hervey got Sega to put his namesake in the game and his picture would come up as a target that you were supposed to try NOT to shoot! And I am pretty sure that when you shot at Jason's head, he would yell "OWE!!!!"

So, I saw an ad for this cartridge at about the time that hampster episode had been on!!! (LOL!) I remember thinking "Damn hampster killer!! I just wanted to buy the game and take shots at "Wayne's" head and watch him go "OWE!!!!" hahahaha!!!

Do any of you remember this game?

Jack

I thought Jason Hervey played the role as it was written to be played. Wayne wasn't supposed to be a likable guy, and he wasn't for the most part. There were occasions, however, when he showed his human side, like in the episode where Wart came home from war. There are others too. If he wasn't so mean most of the time, the times he showed "realness" wouldn't have been nearly as touching.

I especially hated Wayne in the hamster in the vacuum episode.

What really stuck out was the scene where Wayne threatened to throw the hamster down the garbage disposal, which still haunts me this very day sometimes.

Other than that, I thought Wayne was a really funny guy, and probably the reason TWY is listed under sitcoms, as opposed to dramas here on Sitcomsonline.com. So I don't think there's any reason to believe this will become an "I hate Wayne" thread. At least I hope not.

My favorite Wayne episode was #83, "Private Butthead," when he tried, with his friend Wart, to join the Army. That scene at the end where he admitted to his dad that he failed his physical ("I can't even do this!") and was on the verge of tears after that was very touching. :crying: Honorable mention goes to #75, "Triangle," with Carla Gugino as Sandy Tyler, Wayne's girlfriend in the fifth season, who ultimately wound up with Kevin after that kiss in Wayne's absence.

I thought Wayne made the show funnier. As much as I liked Kevin, and he was a little cutie, sometimes he just acted silly and needed to be put in his place, and Wayne never failed to do that. Wayne isn't someone I'd like to know though because he was too mean. The character of Wayne though was quite entertaining, and necessary in the show.

Yeah, Wayne was a character I hated, however , blaming an actor for the character he played is totally rediculous! If anyone should get the blame, its the writers who created him! Speaking of which, I read once that Larry Linville ( Frank Burns on M*A*S*H ) found it very difficult being so hated...in real life, Linville was a very nice and sensitive, caring man, by all accounts and the hate mail he received hurt him deeply...Susan Lucci who's played the evil temptress Erica Kane for so many years has received several death threats over her character! When will some people learn that an actor is an actor and the roles they play arent real????

Wayne's charachter actually toned down quite a bit during the 5th Season, and even more during the 6th season. I think because of the hatred Jason Hervey was receiving in real life, the writers made the decision to tone the charachter down. JMO

That's right! Also factoring in was the fact that he was seeing Bonnie (a fellow furniture factory worker--or was she at Norcom? I think it was the former.), recently divorced with a son, David by name. Seeing him, you would think he was a father!

His relationship with Bonnie was very brief on the show. I think the writers had him move in with her as a way of minimizing his role on the show. Perhaps Jason Hervey wanted less time on the show. He may have had second thoughts a month or so later and asked to be back on the show full time so they wrote that episode about Wayne and Bonnie abruptly breaking up. I don't know. It's possible. It seems strange how Wayne would move out, and enter a serious relationship then move back in just a few episodes later. That's the only thing I can think that happened.

I loved to hate Wayne but he was funny. I love the first ep where Kevin walks out in his threads and Wayne just starts busting a gut laughing.

I heard the story about him getting punched in the face on the street and thought that was abit much! Poor guy, he was only playing a part.

Jason Hervey played the role of Wayne Arnold very well. He was supposed to be a jerk most of the time and acted accordingly. The first episode where I actually began to like him was the one where Kevin threw that huge party and their parents came home early (while Kevin was still cleaning up) and Wayne took the blame for it. Now that's a stand up guy!

If you remember that one, than you can't fully hate him, can you?
