View Full Version : Arguing with moderators and other issues

I give careful consideration when choosing my moderators, and I respect their judgment. It's a decision that I don't make lightly. To that end, I'm implementing a new rule where if someone has a problem with a moderator, they must take it up with me and keep it off the boards. Janice, in particular, finds herself barraged by insults whenever she issues a warning. It's gone too far when members call her Hitler or harass and taunt her about her personal life. It's gone too far when she issues a warning and it goes on for five pages.
Janice devotes her time and is dedicated to my site, and I value her contribution. She's not here to get kicked around for carrying out her moderating duties. She treats people as they treat her. Many already know this as she's a friend to quite a few members. The truth is that Janice can be a great friend on the boards, but treat her poorly, and you have only yourself to blame when she takes action.

I asked Janice if she had any recommendations on who should be suspended recently. She graciously said nobody. If she was spiteful, she could have sent at least two members on a week-long timeout or worse. I also am giving Janice permission to delete any further posts which attack her or anyone else. If you're looking for your post and can't find it, you'll know why it's gone. It is now against the rules to argue with moderators on the boards when a warning is issued. Members may debate with moderators during the course of normal board discussions, but allow the moderators to do what they are assigned to do.

Moderators are not perfect and make mistakes in judgment. If someone feels that a moderator has warned you when it wasn't warranted, contact me. I'll review the situation and make the final determination.
However, moderators don't need members all over them when they issue a warning. So don't recruit your friends for a gangup on the moderator unless you want to take them on a timeout too.

Can we stop being so touchy? Can't even joke about anything. Solomon's only kidding with his threads, and you can't take everything he says so seriously. If you find a thread offensive, don't go in and give everyone a hard time.

Finally, after a lot of consideration, I have decided to re-open the Current Events/Politics board. It will have 2-4 additional moderators besides myself. I hope we won't have the same problems that caused it to be closed over a year ago. We can debate issues without personal attacks and name calling.

Janice now has the ability to temporarily suspend people if need be, so don't give her any crap.
