In Mate For Each Other, it appears John Ritter is chewing gum.....didn't he do this to stop smoking? I think I noticed this in a few other episodes as well. I also noticed that his eyes looked very tired(well, he could've just been tired but I thought this also happens when you quit smoking-- you become very jittery and can't sleep).

Yea! I read that in the TC book!! I still think its so gross! I am so :D they both quit! Good thing they had each other to make it easier to quit! OMG! you girls are so silly!~ But his legs were the the hotest ever!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that about your father :( My whole family smokes(well, besides my mom and I) and I hate to think what could happen to them in a few years....I am so proud of John and Joyce too.

Yea, I noticed that he was chewing gum in that episode too. And he was chewing a lot on it, that's probably because he was trying to quit smoking. What a guy! I think that it was nice that he and Joyce were trying to quit. And John does have nice legs! And I love that episode too. I wish I was Janet, I'm so mad. Jack even said that Emily Dickison was his favorite poet! How sweet!

I've noticed that he chewed gum in this episode as well, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he was chewing gum because he was trying to quit smoking. I know he and Joyce quit while the show was airing, but he could have been chewing gum because he likes to chew it. It is possible that he had already quit. From what I remember, "Come and Knock on Our Door" never mentioned the actual year that the both of them quit smoking.

I've heard of chewing gum to try to quit smoking, but I never heard of trying to quit smoking will make you tried, maybe a little jittery, but I don't think tired. (Also, I've noticed in the epiosde' She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not', in the scene where he's sitting in the boat with Terri, he seems to be playing with his hands a lot.( that could've been jitters from quitting smoking cold turkey) And I also noticed that when in the scene before the boat, when Larry had suggested to Terri about taking a walk down to the lake, than she asked Jack if he wanted to go, he said ,'Well, if you don't mind my alleriges'. Notice that when during the scene with him and Terri sitting in the boat, his allergies didn't seem to bother him at all). Maybe he was just phyiscaly tired. After all, he was the Father of 3 at the time. In what episodes does he look tired? I only noticed in 'Mate For Each Other' that he was chewing gum, in what other episodes did you see him chewing gum?

If you ever purchase a copy of 'Being Of Sound, mind, and Body' you see John chewing gum like crazy. I believe even than he was probably trying to quit smoking than. These scenes are in the in between takes of each comedy sketch.

I have that DVD, and you're right, he was always chewing gum in the scenes between each skit.

In another episode that I've noticed, in 'Jack Bares All' Pt. 1, when Jack is in the kitchen with P.(don't know how the other guy's name is spelled), when Jack went over to the sink to wash his hands to start making lunch, he didn't use soap, he only rinsed his hands, yuk! When your a chef, working around food all the time, you are suppose to wash your hands,with soap!
