Professor: Alexis Denisof
Mary Ann: Katie Holmes
gilligan fanatic 03-27-2005, 09:34 AM nobody should play a role in a Gilligan movie. It would be horrible if they made one. It would be worse then the Real Gilligan's Island. I would hate seeing a Gilligan movie so much

I agree. It would never be the same!
Céline 03-27-2005, 07:35 PM I agree too.It could never be the same. The cast that Sherwood Schwartz chose had a unique chemistry.I just can't see any actors or actresses to do the part perfectly.I don't know why they have to remake everything today.Just look how they messed up the remake of other shows,it's horrible

ditto, nobody could create that same chemistry. I don't think anybody could act out the Skipper or Gilligan quite like Alan Hale and Bob Denver. And if they were to do a remake today, it wouldn't have that same innocent family fun comedy. They'd try to add some not-so-nice-language, maybe some lewd humor, and sex. Thats not what Gilligan's Island was about. A remake would have to be scandalous. Just my opinion.

Bonsai 03-27-2005, 09:08 PM As much as I love GI, it belongs to a certain time, a certain place, and those 7 people----to re-do it would fall flat flat flat.

well said! :D
gilligan fanatic 03-28-2005, 08:49 AM I don't get how somebody could ever think of making a Gilligan movie. The idea is just terrible

UNlesd Gary Marshall, Ron Howard, or one of GI's surviving directors or one of Sherwood'sa BRAYD directors (Peter Baldwin, etc.) was behind it.Or you or I (or anyoine else here.)
We'D keep i afloat..(but what COULD you do with yert ANOTHER fulkl lebgth story even if ya DID keep ikt clean would be another thing..this WAS meant to be 30 minutes long..and then there's the question of casting, as noted.:!_)
dontwc 04-09-2005, 09:14 PM Wait a minute! I think the best way to make a movie of Gilligan's Island is to make it very very badly. On purpose. This way you preserve the integrity of the original show AND you can enjoy the new product with no guilt at all!
Here's my cast...
Gilligan: Ben Stiller
Skipper: Randy Quaid
Mr. Howell: Eddie Murphy
Mrs. Howell: Whoopie Goldberg
Ginger: Pamela Anderson
Professor: Tim Allen
Mary Ann: Ellen Degeneres
It could be a beautiful thing!
SpunkiiMonkii7078 04-10-2005, 08:51 PM That could be really REALLY funny  I'm laughing right now at the thought... Ben Stiller as Gilligan, hmmm?!
Jessica
dontwc 04-10-2005, 09:02 PM Did you see Stiller as Eric Zoolander? Oh yeah. It's doable...
And Tim Allen would be an overeager professor who always thinks the island needs "more power". Can you make a nuclear reactor out of clam shells and the radium dial on Mr. Howel's old watch?
Munsters#1 04-11-2005, 07:11 AM How about John Goodman as The Skipper?
dontwc 04-11-2005, 08:13 PM I thought John Goodman was too obvious. I was going for wierd, which is why the Pam Anderson/Ellen Degeneres duo. And Randy Quaid is WEIRD...
Just to prove you shouldn't mess with a classic, how about the Drew Carey gang. :)

No offense against Drew Carey, but gosh that looks awful!
dontwc 04-19-2005, 08:35 PM Wadday mean? This works for me!
Mikado 07-06-2005, 08:30 PM My picks would be:
Pauly Shore as Gilligan...George Wendt (Norm from "Cheers") as the Skipper....Robert Redford as Thurston Howell....Jane Fonda ( minus age reducing make-up ) as Mrs. Howell....Shannen Doherty ( with hair dyed red ) as Ginger < This one REALLY works...Harry Anderson ( Night Court )as the professor...and Jessica Simpson( with hair dyed black ) as Mary Ann ...I dont see these actors as carbon copies of the originals, but as people who would recreate the roles in their own styles that would compliment the originals!...please to comment ( politely ) on my choices
jonnycarnahan 07-13-2005, 11:55 AM The Drew Carey cast is hilarious and the Tim Allen, Whoopie Goldberg, etc... cast is brilliant!
I agree with dontwc... making it campy and using that cast with a director like Ron Howard would be really cool.
I like David Schwimmer from "Friends" and Jim Carey as Gilligan too. Plus, I think Nicole Kidman has the comedic talent to play a wonderful Ginger.
Being a Professor fan, I always thought Jude Law (sigh) would be great to play Roy Hinkley, but I'm not sure he has the flare for comedy that would be needed for such a part.
On the other hand, Matt Damon would make a great Professor just like Tim Allen would.
A new cast for a one shot movie would never take the place of the original cast and series, don't get me wrong, it would just be a tribute to a much loved show and the talented actors that we have come to know and love.
Hugs,
Sheri
