I recently bought the season 1 DVD and concur with statements made by others about it taking you back to your childhood. And I don't mean that in a "I want to live in the past" way. I really got this DVD for my children. When I become a parent I want my kids to watch the show and hopefully they will enjoy it as much as I did.

I hadn't seen the show in almost 10 years. It's been a long time. Even though some of the slang, dress and music are dated it's still a very relevant show.

I bought the first season dvd for myself (of course.) I have a niece and nephew who came over along with other family members during Thanksgiving. They saw Diff'rent Strokes in my collection and asked if they could watch it, so I let them watch a few episodes. I wa surprised they got into it as much as they did. They really liked it, so I ended up buying them their own copy for Christmas.

I'm looking forward to S2 as well, but I hope all the multi-part episodes aren't the syndication versions like they are in the first set. Season 2 has more multi-part eps than any other season, according to TV Tome...

Does anyone know if or when season 2 will be available?

Nothing yet. I'm not getting too worried yet since Sony takes forever with releasing some of their shows. Hopefully we'll eventually get word on future releases.

very very true. Sony took a full year between seasons 1 and 2 of Good Times, yet they've done considerably better since. IIRC, they took a long time between season 1 and 2 of Soap, yet season 3 came out fairly quickly afterwards and now season 4 will be out soon.

I just wanna know for sure that DS hasn't joined Sony's "crap pile" like S.W.A.T., Larry Sanders and Mad About You have. Season 1 is comparitively weak compared to some of the latter seasons.

Season 2 coming soon... maybe!

I got the Bewitched - Season 1 set and there is a little brochure for some other Sony TV DVD releases. They list Diff'rent Strokes - Seasons 1-2.. so it looks like it is coming, although no date has been announced yet.

ooooh, thanks TJ!! I have been having a great day but knowing that Sony has not abandoned Arnold, Willis, Kimberly and Mr. D makes it even nicer.

That will be good if it comes out soon, hopefully with some more extras like the first season. At least it also shows the first season must have sold quite well which means there is hope for more seasons to come.

I also hope that the Season 2 DVD comes out soon. I haven't seen much of Season 2 - the only episode I can really remember is the episode 'The Squealer' where Willis joins a gang called the Tarantulas and ends up getting arrested.

However, because I have really enjoyed the other seasons of the show that I have seen (Seasons 1, 3, 4, and 5), I am eager to purchase Season 2.

Pavan said he thinks November will be a likely release month for season 2, so I wouldn't expect to hear a TSOD announcement until the end of August or sometime in September. Let's just hope the gap between season 2 and season 3 is a tad bit shorter than fourteen months.

why would he think that?

one thing you gotta realize is that many of us are not as stupid or out of the loop as you may assume. Pavan has established a long time ago that he has connections with both Sony and Anchor Bay. He has been on the money with announcements before (he gave us the date for AITF season 4/Jeffersons season 3 over a month before an official TVShowsOnDVD.com announcement), not everyone are just casual fans who are out of the loop. Same thing with reading charts, as you don't trust my 17 years of reading Billboard magazine to know that Seinfeld season 4 debuted at #2 on the DVD sales chart a few weeks ago.

he predicted November and said to be on the lookout for Silver Spoons around the same time, and POSSIBLY The Facts Of Life as well.

I hope so. The show gets better and better as it gets older.

I definately agree it got better and better from 1 to 6, but I think the show petered out towards the end of season 6 when Spam and Maggot (I kid I kid, I do like Dixie Carter, just not on DS) were added and then Kimberly was almost nonexistant and Willis' screen time was greatly reduced.

Believe it or not, I still like DS in its final season. I disliked Maggie and Sam, but I was glued to my set when Arnold kissed Lisa. I was so happy that Arnold FINALLY got a girl.

Arnold never had a girl-lol After he kissed lisa in the photo room, as soon as someone got them out of there, he went back to hating her again like an idiot. They starting getting close when they were locked in there and revealing things and Arnold who was supossed to be trying to get with lisa goes back to insulting her, like a little boy

True, but I was holding out hope that they would put them together.

I think season 8 would've been a new beginning for the show if Sam was never found, and Maggie got so distressed after it she divorces Mr. D. lol. Because season 8 was so stylistically different than the NBC years, you could tell that it was now an "ABC show" while the first 7 seasons were an "NBC show".

It may be off the grid for November. See the 2005 TV DVD Release List for Pavan's wisdom on what he thinks may become of the release.
