Hi,
I am new to this forum, found it by mistake. anyways, my least favorite character was probably Roland maybe because all the other characters had me laughing with tears running my face. I just did not find his character very funny.

That woman is mind numbingly DUMB and annoying. I could never, ever live with her!

Yeah, Rose was dumb, but at least she was sweet and had a heart. Sophia was by far the meanest, even taking into account the whole "stroke" excuse they used. She would say things that revealed she was mostly sharp as a tack, then bam, she'd hurl insults at people for no reason at all, burn people's mouths on hot food, steal from her own daughter, etc. :( So if it were real life, I'd least like to live with Sophia.

Smerpette: Were you thinking of Don Cheadle's character on Golden Palace when you referred to "Roland"?

Yeah, Rose was dumb

"Jay Sandrich directed our pilot. And he said, "Rose is not stupid. She's totally naive. She takes every word for what that word means. She doesn't ever put things together, or act sarcastic." So he set the parameters for the character, and I thank him so deeply for what Rose became."

“It was Jay Sandrich who gave me the definitive clue to Rose Nylund. ‘She is not dumb– just totally naive,’ he said. 'She believes everything she is told and in her innocence, always takes the first meaning of every word.’

What a great measuring stick to give an actress. It not only helped me find Rose, but love her and keep her on her course through the next few years. She didn’t understand sarcasm, so the others could say terrible things, but the words all sounded fine to her. She was so literal in her thinking that if someone said they could eat a horse, she would call the S.P.C.A. But Rose was not weak. She had her own set of rules that made perfect sense, if only to her, and she also had a fierce Nordic temper on occasion.”

Blanche. Her obsessiveness with sex and romance made me sick to my stomach. And she was a little on the goofy side

I'm with you on that one. At any age, excessive interest in sex is a huge turn off to me. I read Rue's autobiography recently. She was really a very nice person. But to me, she took the whole "man hungry" aspect of Blanche's personality much too far. Some scenes were hard to watch. Even worse in one episode of "Golden Palace" where she kept extolling the virtues of "Ernie....oooooohhhhh" Blechhhh

OH Nuts!

I liked Stan the least - but of the Girls I can't pick the one I like the least cause I like them all.

Blanche. Her promiscuousness and vanity are really repulsive to me. I know there are supposed to be people like that in the world but thankfully I've never met one. I really don't know what I'd do if I actually knew somebody who was sex-crazed like that. It's just ridiculous. There's an episode where it's around Christmastime I think, and Blanche gets to describing how Santa Claus and his whole outfit really turns her on. Disgusting. I know her sexual obsession was always played for laughs but there are some things that just aren't funny. So excuse me, I don't like sexual humor.

Ed. ETA: It just went way too far.

Sophia for me, and it's not close. I didn't really mind her when I watched the shows as a kid. But the character is so mean-spirited. I'd hate to have her as my mother or grandmother.

Rose is another character that just did not do anything for me. Not really funny and she seemed dumbfounded and stupid. I honestly can handle Blanche better than Rose.

Dorothy And Sophia , on the other hand, are my favorite characters

Recently I watched the episode where Rose had insomnia because she was taking a supplement with caffeine in it, thinking it was "calcium."

The scene where Sophia almost bashed her over the head with a cooking pot reminded me how much I dislike her character. Stroke excuse or not, in real life, that would have been the moment when I put my mother back in a nursing home. Mean? Or just demented? :( It doesn't really matter at that point. She was dangerous.
