since I was born in 1979, all of my early childhood memories were in the 1980's, and I remember a time when Tab was as popular a soft drink as Coke and Pepsi, but by the end of the 80's, Tab seemed all but a memory.

Yesterday when I was at a grocery store, I noticed that Coke has resurrected Tab and even has frigepacks, so I bought it, and it tastes as good as I remembered it.

Hopefully this means Tab soda is back, I used to love to drink it back when I was young. I figured I would never see it again.

TAB was and I guess still is (I haven't seen it in years either) WAY better than Diet Coke or Pepsi.

Fresca was another great low-cal soda!!

Like diet cola but without the gross aftertaste (not as bad anyway). I forget what the sweetner it is that they use in it.

Fresca is like a crisp blend of Sprite and Wink. Good stuff!

I've never even heard of it, and havn't seen it in stores. Zebra gum, though. Hmm, can only get that **** at the gas station now. That stuff was soooo cule. But that was the 90's, not the 80's :grr: 90's sucked.

Oh REALLY??!!! Cool!! That stuff was great! TV Land should show the retro ads!

We have a store in Toronto that sells nothing but retro candy! I don't know how they get the stuff - unless its like 35 years old!!! Blackcat gum, Lola's (before they came back), jaw breakers, wax lips and even candy or chocolate cigarettes!! :D

I think even the adds were before my time, because I don't remember them...just the gum

I could be wrong, but I believe Tab was the first diet soft drink. I don't recall seeing it lately in my grocery store, but I could be wrong on that. Could be it's not available everywhere.

I always thought Tab had too much of an aftertaste, but then again, I hate all diet sodas for that reason.

Yes - I think it was the first. I still remember the ads with the woman in a bikini drinking it laying on the beach.

Agree - it still does have an aftertaste, but I still don't think its a bad as other diet colas. I'm a sugar addict big time - just ask my extremely wealthy dentist!!!! :D (false tooth grin)

I've never had it nor seen it before.

But I have heard of it.... my mom had to explain the "I'll have a Tab" joke from Back to the Future.

"How can you have a tab if you haven't bought anything?"

Could be one of the reasons MJF got the Pepsi commercial gig too!!

What does Tab taste like?

the taste of TAB is why I loved it so much, think a mixture of Coca Cola (it's a Coke brand) with iced tea. It sounds yucky, but it's really good, I think that would be the best way to classify it. It is a diet soda (which means 0 calories), but it has less of a "diet" taste than Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi One do.

If you find it in your area, check it out. I used to love this stuff as a kid and love seeing it available again

At lunch all of the little kids run around asking "Can I have your tab?" talking about the thing on top of coke cans that opens them. I always wanted to take a Tab soft drink to give them as a gag but they only sell Tab by the 12 pack here.

I saw a magazine like that once.

I used to love those stupid candy cigarettes. We used them once in a school play like they were real.

Hmm...well, I'll have to see if I can buy a can or bottle. Diet soda with only a mild aftertaste...that would be a miracle!

Popeye's??? I really loved the bubblegum ones because if you blew through the "cigarette" - it would blow out a bit of the powder on the gum and look like real "smoke"!!!

No wonder they yanked them off the market these days!!

I know eh!!? They can supposedly make "turkeys" out of tofu now, but they still can't get diet drinks to taste half-decent!

Good link about TAB. I guess it wasn't the first diet soda.

THAT'S IT!!! Way to go Janice!!

And NOW I remember the lady - she was in a one-piece, with sunglasses and floppy hat, and the camera would pan the length of her up to her face as she took a sip of TAB from a straw? I think anyways!!

I'll have to look for it in the store. I haven't had it in a long time. :D

All I remember about Tab is that it had this horrible saccharine aftertaste! Hopefully they have moved on to nutra-sweet or something! I much prefer Diet Coke to any of them! :p
