I captured a mouse last night, it freaked me out because I have not ever seen a mouse before in the flesh. Does anyone else have trouble with Mice??? How do you get rid of them???

Mouse traps? I've never encountered or killed a mouse before,but when I had mice in my house once,my Dad put out the traps and when I woke up the next morning he showed me the dead mouse's head in the trap.It was foul!

I've never had a problem with mice since my family got Louise 12 years ago. Louise is my cat.

Someone told me that glue traps also work if you don't have pets. You just place them somewhere and if a mouse gets on it, it will stick and die there.

Trust me, the only stuff that I know that will work is D-Con. that sh-it works in a flash. I remember this in house my mother use to live, we were just getting over a snow storm, my mother was washing clothes in the basement, she was up and down the stairs, all of a sudden she called me from upstairs, I knew something was wrong the way she called me. She told me it was a rat big as a cat in the basement. I asked was it live, she was like "Yeah!" I went to open the basement door and the sucker was at the bottom step and it was huge! I slammed the door and asked where that came from. My mother didn't have mice or roaches. So I went to the drug store to get some D-Con and I took a broom, went down to the basement, started swinging in case the rat came back, placed the D-Con down and ran back upstairs. I had to go to work, my mother called me and said the rat came back and it must have ate the stuff because it was weak and could'nt move so she got brave took a shovel and killed it and put it in a bag and threw it in the garbage outside. So she called the landlord and had her to ratproof the basement. Sorry to tell you the long story, I just had to advertise the D_Con and how it works fast.

Over the years i've had an unwanted visitor or two in the apartment. Believe me, nothing is more unsettling than to have one skitter across the floor when you're working at the computer. You can try to trap them, but I've never had any luck with glue traps or those little humane ones that trap them in a box, the best thing you can do is to try to stop them from getting in:

- Caulk is your friend. Use a plumbers caulk or that spray foam pipe insulator and seal off any spaces mice will use to get into your place. I live in an apartment building, so there are radiator pipes coming up from the floor - plenty of room for those little buggers to squeeze through.

- Go high tech. Many stores sell those electronic pest control devices that you plug into any outlet. The supposedly send out a high frequency sound that drives pests nuts. Don't worry, they don't bother dogs and cats. Get a few of them though, they only have limited range.

- Keep it clean! - Keep all foods (fruit, that open box of cookies on top of the fridge) locked away at all times Keep those chip bags closed up and in a cabinet too. Make sure you get all the crumbs if you drop something. Rodents aren't coming to your place to watch DVDs. They want food!

- Get a pet. Nothing will keep the critters away better than a dog or cat. A friend of mine recently adopted a cat, and within a week the little feline bagged a mouse at his new home. Dogs might not have the same reputation as champion mousers, but they'll do the job. When I was a kid my dog nabbed a rather large rat that had invaded my family's home. I don't think a cat would've taken out that beast!

I agree with TJL - preventative measures are the best. In addition to the caulking, if you have small holes, fill them with steel wool (mice, rats and squirrels can't chew through the steel) first and then caulk and/or poly-filla over that.

We live in the country and regularly get mice in the house in the late fall or during cold snaps. Believe it or not, I have 5 cats. Sometimes they get 'em and sometimes they don't!!

I have one that's really smart and sneaky and avoids getting caught by the cats because he camps out in the oven drawer. Has eaten the thumbs out of I don't know how many oven mitts!

As crazy as it sounds, I love animals just too much to set down traps (besides, the cats would probably get caught before the mouse does). I've even "saved" ones that the cats will bring up from the basement if they're still alive (I just take them and put them outside again rather than watching the cat "torture" it)!

For the most part, the cats (and 2 small dogs) do keep them away, but you still might get the odd one that knows how to play a really good game of "cat & mouse".

P.S. - My cats are good hunters too - when I used to let them outside, my Main Coon showed up with a young rabbbit one day. So they may even be able to take care of the occasional rat too!

Uninstall all the mouse drivers and software in the Device Manager while in Safe Mode, then shut down and reboot. Windows should detect the mouse and reload the software, or ask you for the installation disk. Unplug the cord and inspect the pins in the connector, and of course make sure you take out and clean the ball and sensors regularly if it isn't an optical mouse.

We had about 6 mice in our house last year. It was most likely because of the construction that was going on in our back-yard. We tried glue traps, but the damn mice just snuck right out of them. I ended up shooting them all with my bb gun as they tried to scurry for cover.

You too huh? Yeah, the larger spiders I've brought back outside ('course with some of them, you need a 357 Magnum to take them out)!!

Same with the California Ladybugs that were everywhere a couple of years ago. Childhood taught me to leave them alone (but I gotta admit, when it numbered in the hundreds, I had to take action)!! :D

We havent had any here in years. I remember once though in about 2003 one was sitting on our couch in the livingroom and my dad got this old Cane from the basement and hit the unsuspecting mouse with it. That was hilarious to me for some reason.

I saw a guy actually just step on one and squish it on the street one time (meanwhile, I had been rooting for it because it made it across a busy street unscathed). Grossed me out so badly I've never forgotten it and never will.

I think I would die if there was ever a mouse in my house. We get them in our garage but I've yet to see one in the house. I'm pretty sure they live in our attic too because I can hear them crawling around and scratching. They creep me out so much. I think we get roaches (or bugs that look like roaches) during the summer. Ugh those are so incredibly disgusting. It takes a weapon practically to kill them and I happen to be the only one who ever sees them.

Sounds like you're describing earwigs - they look like skinny asian cockroaches with pincers on their butts. Nasty - nasty things!! They actually will pinch too! Yeah, I have to blast those things good with RAID - or pick them up with a bit of kleenex and pinch them hard - they almost indestructable!

Could also be squirrels in your attic. We get them too.

Also have lived in apts. years ago with cockroaches. I could tell you horror stories about those! Probably why mice don't bother me a bit after living with roaches - you'll take almost anything else!

I think they're cute, but I can't say I've have any mice trouble. Bird flew into our air vent er something once and got locked in our closet though. My mom thought it was a rat. I do believe I posted the story a while back.
