The guy explained that some of the original film is just in too bad of shape to be reused. It was said parts of the film is disintegrated and may smell like vinegar. So there is the reason shows older shows may not make it to DVD

yea, I heard that. I've also heard they have the same problem with some of the old movies.

I'm really confused now because i thought only short-lived shows from over 25 years ago would have Original Films in bad condition. Too Close for Comfort and Alf are shows from the 80's. And Alf started in the late 80's so i don;t know why that show would have syndicated versions

those are they only two I know used syndicated prints but I'm not sure if they were damaged or the company used the syndicated version for another reason.

I found out some more info from tvshowsondvd.com. the company that released ALF says that the syndicated prints were in better condition. but the real reason was the company didn't own want to pay the big money it cost to clean up the original broadcast episodes.

I'm just surprised the show AL is making any money on DVD with the same versions you see in syndicaton.

I've heard that the VHS tapes of "The Odd Couple" and "The Andy Griffith show" are also the edited versions that are seen in sydnication.


BUT, the DVDs of "The Andy Griffith show" aren't. In fact, "The Andy Griffith show" DVD (they only have the first season so far) is, from what I've heard, EXELLENT! :) Not only are the shows unedited, but the picture and sound is GREAT!!

Unfortunately, "The Odd Couple" isn't on DVD. :mad:

the two-DVD set of "The Beverly Hillbillies" from Diamond Entertainment has edited, sydnicated episodes.
