hello i just have a couple of questions if anybody who is a fan of happy days like me, who willing to answer these questions for me, i would really appericate it. To cut to the chase, if anyone has any video tapes of happy days that was recorded from either tv land or nike at nite, music wise, how would you compare the music that is heard on tv land compared to what is heard on the dvd, i have season one and it is cool, and unlike tv land and other syndicated networks who carries the show, you see all of the original deleted footages that was shown on ABC many years ago. the question, are there there any songs that are heard on the tv land version, heard on the dvd version or are they are about the same? what i meant to say was are the music that are heard on tv land version heard on the dvd, and does anybody knw when season 2 is coming out, i cannot waite to see all of the original deleted scnes that was cut from the tv land version as well as hearing all of the original music that was replace in syndication, later

Hey i almost forgot to asked you, if you grew up watching happy days originally on abc years ago, does anybody kind of remember the band that richie potsie and ralph had formed, and seeing them doing allot more singing in the show more towards the end the middle or at the beginning? i kind of remember in the very beginning they had there comedy routins and after they had there little comedy hour, they would like put on shows at Arnolds allot, watching the show on syndication they have cut out allot of singing sequences, since the show was cut out during the years, i just wanted to know if anybody remember seeing them do allot of singing more then you would see in syndication. and if they did sing allot on the original abc broadcast, when the rest of the dvd's come out, do you think that they willl show all of the singing sequence that the band d do which was cut out of the syndication version later

The only thing that I can tell you is that the Season 1 DVD set has all the original music, unlike the TV Land and syndicated versions. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal recently where Paramount mentioned spending $1 million to license all the Happy Days Season 1 music for DVD. The downside? They mentioned wanting to increase marketing on all sets and cut the prices on DVD sets even. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but increasing marketing costs and lowering prices on sets that are already only $30-35 doesn't inspire confidence that they'll want to spend another $1 million licensing all the Season 2 music. Paramount wants to start putting out sets at a faster pace, which sounds great, but went on to mention music costs and licensing slowing down Happy Days. I've got a bad feeling replacement music on the sets could be in this show's future.

I just hope Season 1 sold very, very well in order to justify spending the big money for Season 2. Unfortunately, Season 1 hit almost six months ago and we've still got no firm date for Season 2.

It would be nice to see what the actual sales figures for season one look like, and compare them to something like TAXI, which Paramount has treated much differently, with 2 releases already (in a much shorter timeframe) and announced plans for future seasons. There wouldn't be the same issues with music rights, but you'd think that they could offset that with a slightly higher price on the Happy Days sets.

Paramount NEEDS to make all releases COMPLETE versions, with all the original music intact.

I agree completely. It's a shame that sales numbers are never revealed, except in the case of the biggest sellers like Nemo, the Star Wars set, etc. Maybe they're afraid that potential buyers will start making assumptions based on bad sales and stop purchasing sets out of fear of an incomplete run. Who knows?

I'm the same way on getting complete versions. I don't have any use for edited episodes or missing music.

I'm not sure on something. I didn't start watching Happy Days until I was 5 back in '78. I caught up and kept repeating the episodes in syndication over the decades. Did the first run episodes always use popular 50's/60's music through the show's whole run or did they really cut it down after Season 2 and go more toward the generic stuff we hear on TV Land?

While the first-run episodes did use more popular music, the show tapered off the amount of it as the series progressed.

I actually believe that this was one of the reasons that the guys formed the band; so that they could have the guys play the songs instead of paying big bucks for original artists' versions of the music or resort to using generic music.

The big question is, will this save Paramount any money, and in turn save US some money and get our dvd's out to us any quicker....

They edited the music for Cheers season 4 also. :rolleyes: season 2 of HD should be out by now, same w/Who's The Boss Seasons 2 & 3, L&S season 2, among other shows.

I don't think Paramount promoted Season 1 well enough. They spent the money on music(thankfully) but, at least according to my memory of last fall, failed to promote the DVD set. I don't remember seeing it advertised during the Reunion show or on TV Land or other networks. I also don't recall any special store displays. To me, if you invest that much into the music, go all the way and scrape something together for promotion to help recoup the investment.

I only remember a small handful of commercials for the set altogether.

Paramount has announced plans to release 240 TV on DVD sets in the coming year. With that kind of volume and the ridiculously low prices the sets are already going for, it doesn't look good for a musically complete version of Happy Days, in my opinion.

you are right there was no promotion for season one at all.paramount doesn't do promotions for anything unless its spongebob squarepants and i agree at this point it doesn't look good for original music happy days.it really is a shame that they don't think happy days is worthwhile.
