ABC gave "Jake in Progress" the coveted "Desperate Housewives" time slot Sunday night, and the new series got half the audience the drama normally draws.
The two episodes of the John Stamos comedy - billed as a male "Sex and the City" - averaged just under 13 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

For comparison, "Desperate Housewives" - repeat and original episodes - have averaged 23.1 million viewers this season.

Stamos shouldn't get too upset, though. Last week wasn't great for any of the new shows that have launched during the midseason.

Also struggling to find an audience was NBC's critically acclaimed reality show "The Contender," which aired last Thursday in "ER's" time slot.

The Mark Burnettproduced series averaged 8.9 million viewers, half of what the medical drama draws. And when a new episode of "The Contender" aired Sunday, it drew just 6.9 million viewers against ABC's tough "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

ABC's new drama "Blind Justice," from the producers of "NYPD Blue," averaged 12.3 million viewers.

Kelsey Grammer's "Sketch Show" for Fox averaged 5.39 million viewers, finishing well down the Nielsen charts.

The WB's new reality show "Starlet" averaged 2.1 million viewers.
