Is Mako really much of a big actor?

I think so. He's appeared in a number of movies, not to mention that he was on numerous episodes of M*A*S*H.

you left out Mary wickes, and Mary Kay Place. For those who don't know who they are, Mary Wickes is one of those actors who pops up every now and then in a movie or TV show, always a comedy, or comedy-drama, mostly as a nun or a housekeeper or maid.

Mary Kay Place played Lorreta Hagers on "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" and she also heped write the "MASH" episode "Hot Lips and Empty Arms".
She was also the voice of Radars fiannce who sent him a "Dear John" record in the episode "Love Story". Also, a woman who was doing a cooking show on the radio in the episode where Klinger gets married (I forget the name).
When Col. Blake said "Look, lady, I'm trying to marry a soldier in the middle of a war!" she said "That's sick!!".

My favorite Mako appearance was in season nine, when he played a Korean soldier who grabbed Hawkeye to operate on his dying friend and fellow soldier. Hawkeye was driving a jeep back to the 4077th when Mako pulled a gun on him and stopped him.

Mako had very little dialogue - all of which was in Korean - yet his performance was his best ever on the show. When Hawkeye fails to save his friend, Mako dismissively motions him away to leave.

As Hawkeye gets back to his jeep, he sees Mako using his helmet to dig a grave for his fallen friend. Touched by this, Hawkeye goes back over to Mako and does likewise. The look of shock on Mako's face when he sees Hawkeye making this gesture is priceless. Hawkeye looks back at him, without a word being exchanged. The two continue digging.

Sometimes less is more and though no dialogue was spoken at the end of the scene, it spoke volumes.

I noticed that many of the guest stars either had or would work with Alan. For example, Alex Karras worked with Alan in Paper Lion before Alex became an actor, and Blythe Danner worked with Alan in To Kill A Clown. Just a little info for you! ~Caitlin~

Speaking of Alan, I just watched The Aviator, where Alan plays a corrupt senator. I've noticed that Alan can play a total bastard just as easily as he plays a good guy. The mark of a true actor.
