Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts about who should be inducted into the RRHOF that hasn't been inducted yet?

Here is a link for the list of those inductees already in the RRHOF:

Van Halen
Black Sabbath
Chicago
Rush
Journey

I'm affraid that I don't see any of these bands ever being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it is a crime that they will not be.

I am shocked at how much the Hall dismisses hard rock bands as well as "pop" bands they consider "cheesy" (like Hall And Oates or ABBA)

groups like Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Rush, Deep Purple, etc... have earned a place in the Hall, and I also think acts like Hall and Oates and ABBA have also earned a place, but since they are "pop", they won't be taken seriously

Well that's a crock.

ABBA? I've got to disagree with that inclusion but I see what you mean.

I do think Van Halen will eventually be voted in, and am kinda surprised they're not in on the first ballot.

Question: What about Foreigner? Or did their later Adult Contemporary dabblings sink their cause?

why not? Sure, many of their biggest hits are cheesy on the surface, but Andersson and Ulvaeus were masters of production along with their songwriting. I saw the Super Troopers documentary on them and the production techniques and melodies to their songs are so much more complex than a lot of people who only know Dancing Queen are willing to give them. There was a huge 80's backlash when people just associated them as "another 70's disco pop band" but in the 90's, people like Bono and Kurt Cobain finally gave ABBA their due because they are so much more than "a pop band from the 1970's"

They certainly belong in the Hall of Fame, Benny and Bjorn were master songwriters and producers, and frankly, their songs are classics.

Black Sabbath have declined to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because they have felt it was hypocritical for them to be chosen when all through the 70's they were constantly slagged by critics. They were not a "respectable" band. They always felt that they were a "people's" band that didn't need validation by critics to be successful.

Still, I think it's odd that also a great band like Rush hasn't been inducted--perhaps for the same reasons?

Preety much for the same reasons, Captain. Apart from John Swenson, I can't name a single critic that ever said anything in praise of Rush - probably because Neil Peart, who writes the lyrics for their songs, is a Randian (rightist) while most rock critics are social democrats (leftists).

I read about ten years ago that he and the band had moved a little more closer to the center of the ideological spectrum.

I didn't see The Big Bopper on that list. I noticed they put Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly on the list, but not the Big Bopper. The Big Bopper had great music in the '50s.

They have a hit musical with all their music. Not exactly bad songs, yo.

Journey & The Monkees should by FAR be in there.

I love how it's the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame" when half of Motown is in there.

And how come AC/DC is in there, and Black Sabbath and Guns N' Roses are not? All 3 bands had a huge influence on music in the late 70's/80's, and only one of them is in there. I don't think it's quite fair...

I don't think it's quite fair...In my above post, the guys of Black Sabbath chose not to be, and Guns N' Roses have to wait for at least 25 years after they came onto the scene to be eligible. So add 25 to 1987= 2012. Seven more years.

Guns & Roses will make it. But the question is, will they make up by that time to perform together at the induction ceremony??? Lot of bad blood still there between Axel and the others.

Assuming you're speaking ironically, you have to admit that Motown, all black r & b artists, are very much a BIG part of rock and roll as much as the Beatles and the Stones and everyone else are. People forget that rock and roll was invented by African-Americans, and that black gospel had a huge influence in its formation. It wasn't just all white guys attempting black music. Ike Turner is considered one of the first people who may have originated it.

Damn, I should be a rock and roll musicologist.

R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. (A Tribute to 60's Rock)
John Mellencamp

They come from the cities
And they come from the smaller towns
Beat up cars with guitars and drummers
Goin crack boom bam

Chorus
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A., Yeah, Yeah!
Rockin' in the U.S.A.

Said goodbye to their families
Said goodbye to their friends
With pipe dreams in their heads
And very little money in their hands
Some are black and some are white
Ain't to proud to sleep on the floor tonight
With the blind faith of Jesus you know that they just might, be
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Hey!

Voices from nowhere
And voices from the larger towns
Filled our head full of dreams
Turned the world upside down

There was Frankie Lyman-Bobby Fuller-Mitch Ryder
(They were Rockin')
Jackie Wilson-Shangra-las-Young Rascals
(They were Rockin')
Spotlight on Martha Reeves
Let's don't forget James Brown
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Hey!

Chorus

Its good to see Queen and AC/DC are in there. But I reckon a band that should be in there (or at least when they're eligible) is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I found out Chicago isn't in the HOF, which to me is a real travesty. Granted they began to suck once Peter Cetera left (some may even argue when Terry Kath died, but I did like some of the Cetera ballads), but they made their mark and were one of the most successful and longlasting bands of the 70's
