Jesse's name in the earlier seasons was Cochrane but John Stamos insisted that the producers change the character's last name to Katsopolis to reflect his Greek heritage. I think that was stupid, but that's what happened.

What is so stupid about honoring one's heritage? Shows change character's names all the time for silly reasons, and I think the fact it was changed to reflect his history is actually pretty cool!

I think Katsopolis was a better last name than Cochrane. It sounded better.

I didn't mean to say it was stupid to honor one's heritage. It is very honorable that he changed his name to recognize his Greek heritage. I just meant that it was stupid to confuse everybody by changing his name right in the middle of the show. I think Katsopolis was a better name, but they should've thought of that from the beginning.

That's true, but maybe they figured no one would notice if they changed the last name. They don't know their fans very well, do they?
