I got all 200 episodes of Coach from Candi and I'm particularly impressed with the editing. My question is about the best way to remove commercials (how did she do such a good job?). I record on to the hard drive of my Sony RDR-HX900. From there I can edit the commercials, but it isn't as precise as I'd like. I'll be upgrading my computer this summer, so I'm wondering if I should wait to do my editing on the computer. Does anyone have any insights as to which method would be more precise? Would I lose significant quality transferring programs from my HDD to the computer? Is editing easier on a computer? My project right now is all 122 episodes of Nash Bridges.

Thanks

desktop editing is the ONLY way to go!

programs such as "womble" and "adobe premiere" allow you to edit down to the frame. 29.97 frames - per second.

i recently captured all 200 episodes of coach through a top of the line capture card via DVI cable into my PC from a High Def. 811 sat. receiver. i then used a program called "womble" to edit commercials from the Mpeg2 captured files. NO quality loss what so ever! finaly designed my own custom menus in adobe premiere and dragged all source files into a program called "adobe encore" it transcoded in dolby digital 2.0 stereo. since my original sorce (HD 811 receiver) was pure digital and NOT from an inferior VHS source, the results ended up stunning!

it all depends on how much time and effort you put into your set. i designed my own cases and disc artwork using adobe Photoshop as well. simply because coach was my favorite show. i have to warn you.....as im sure Candi can attest....it was ENDLESS and i do mean ENDLESS hours of work!

happy with the end result though!

hope this helps a little?

best of luck with your project!

Thanks for the insights. That's exactly the info I was looking for. I've been archiving old VHS tapes on to DVD, and while I'm very pleased with the transfers using the RDR-HX900, there is about a 1 second margin of error with the edits. Sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 attempts to get an acceptable mark. It sounds to me like I have an excuse to upgrade my computer a little earlier than I originally intended. ;)

You've already put Coach on DVD. Now will you do the same thing to Major Dad?
