View Full Version : What is your opinion about driving around talking on a cell phone?
sweetladie30 03-12-2005, 09:50 PM I think that they should pull over to talk on the cell phone. I feel it is not safe. I think they should give a person a fine for talking on the cell phone while driving. I feel that they do not have complete attention while chatting on the cell phone while driving. That is all i have to say about it. :)
GARFIELDKOOL 03-12-2005, 10:38 PM My opinion is that it is not safe either. I almost got hit crossing the street a bunch of times by cellular phones users. One day, I was going to work, I was parking in a parking lot, a cop was hibenating, I received a call on my cellular phone, I answered it as I was parking, the cop drove aside me to check my license, and gave me a warning about use of a cell phone while driving. He got nasty with me too. He warned me, but I felt my dignity was ripped. I wasn't in traffic with the phone, I was in a lot parking while the phone rang. This dude was an *******!!!
dawsongirl 03-12-2005, 10:46 PM Though I'm pretty sure all of us with cell phones and cars have done it once or twice, I think it's stupid. For one, most drivers can't pay attention anyway, so that just gives them a further distraction. Plus, is the call really that important? Probably not. Just like people talking on phones in stores.
Yesterday I followed a woman, on a cell, trying to get on the interstate. She freakin had to practically stop so she could look. GET OFF THE DAMN PHONE!

Hey, my cell phone is my job's. I am allowed to take it home. I can't help it if they call me for some emergency. That is what happened in my case.
Rebel Queen 1980 03-12-2005, 11:15 PM I think that you should only use your cell phone in your car when there is
an emergency, most states are giving tickets for driving and talking on cell
phones, and Texas wants to now prevent 16 year old drivers from talking
on cell phones while driving,So I guess it's up to the driver.

Well I used my phone when I assumed there was an emergency, and I am way over 16 years of age. This cop was just lurking about. NYS laws are different.
Janice 03-12-2005, 11:41 PM I think it's dangerous. I've read that even the hand free cells are dangerous because it's more about concentration. I think eventually that the law will prohibit cell phone use while driving, except in an emergency.

Actually, I answered my phone, I didn't get on it to chit-chat while driving.
Czas na Zywiec 03-13-2005, 12:49 AM I hate when people do that, though I admit I've done it once or twice before where I really had no choice. But other that that, I'll always pull over into a parking lot or something or ignore a call while I'm driving.
Georgia's on my Mind 03-13-2005, 01:09 AM I love chit chatting at ALL times...that's what phones are for.

Ha! You should live here in GA. The cops here talk on cell phones while they drive.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 03-13-2005, 01:23 AM um I pretty much suck at it. I don't trust myself, let alone someone else.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 03-14-2005, 06:16 PM I just think it's annoying when people talk on cell phone PERIOD. But it is really dangerous to talk on your cell phone when you drive. Although some people have said, and I agree with, is talking on your cell phone in your car is no different than not being on your phone and just talking to other people in the car. Because what causes the accidents is not because your holding the cell phone but rather it's a distraction.
gilligan fanatic 03-14-2005, 06:18 PM it bothers me because people don't pay attention to good anyway and then when they are on the phone its worse.
Dutabi84 03-14-2005, 06:25 PM If I don't have to worry about shifting gears, talking is no problem for me. But when you're driving in a busy area, where you need to turn, slow down, and stop a lot, it's hard to do 3 things at once with 2 hands.
MsOrange 03-14-2005, 07:20 PM i'd piss off 99.9% of you
i talk on my cell and drive all the ti me.. sometimes I multi-task: i eat, talk, drink, and drive all at once (my knees are good for driving ;))

It doesn't look to me like you were in the wrong. I think this is an officer who needs a lesson
in police professionalism.
Basically, some cop that didn't have nothing better to do.
Kazza 03-14-2005, 08:30 PM I use the hands free system whenever I can and try to use the phone only for emergencies. It just makes me  that everyone around me has a cellphone stuck to their ears at all times

LOL...I eat in the car all the time. Can't drive with my knees though. I think I'm too short.
Belair 03-15-2005, 03:54 AM If you're caught driving with the phone in your hand here, you get an instant fine.I think thats fair enough because if you're chatting on the phone, you've got one hand on the wheel and cant possibly be giving the road your full attention. But most people can get around that,by using hands-free which is what alot of people use in the car.At least its safer.
Penny Lane 03-15-2005, 11:41 AM I can't tell you how many times in the past week or so that a vehicle has swerved into my lane! All of them while on cell phones! Luckily they all pulled back into their lanes before crashing into me! It is terrifying to see a vehicle coming at you going 55 miles an hour! If you need to call or answer the phone pull off the road PLEASE!
MsOrange 03-15-2005, 11:46 AM LOL...I eat in the car all the time. Can't drive with my knees though. I think I'm too short.
aww, the joy's of being tall
it's quite funny, i think i've mastered it really. i've never been in a wreck or got a ticket, so i'm thinkin i've got this whole thing down pat
I don't think it's illegal in SC to drive while talking on a phone-at least i've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it.
i do however, have to sit down the phone when i'm backing out of my drive way or backing out of a parking spot.
Dude111 02-01-2024, 03:55 PM my opinion? GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONES.Indeed!!!
I wish people didnt have them!!
Someone comes to pick me up and they are on the stupid phone most of the time!!
Penny Lane 02-01-2024, 04:03 PM It is now illegal in Michigan to even be holding your cell phone even if you are not using it.So if you get pulled over for something else and you are holding your phone you will be ticketed.
