How do you get rid of a virus while your in safe mode robyrob 03-12-2005, 07:53 PM most of the time when you use your computer in normal mode, there are many programs and different components being loaded into memory. You will typically have drivers for your video and sound cards, your display adapter, modem or network cards, usb devices, printers, scanners, mouse, keyboard, hard drive, cd/dvd drives, and any other peripherals that you have connected to your computer. You may also have software that runs in the background that is necessary for various tasks, like writing to cd's, updating your software, "helper" programs that monitor your printer or scanner or other devices, antivirus and firewall software, instant messenger software, backup and system restore components, crash or error monitoring components etc. - basically a very large number of things that could potentially cause problems but are normally needed for everything to work the way you want it to. Safe Mode bypasses ALL of those, instead only loading the most basic components necessary to boot into Windows. This means loading only generic drivers for essential items like network and video - this is why the screen looks all big and blocky with "ugly" colors in Safe Mode. The purpose for Safe Mode is simple - if ANY one of those programs running in the background is making your computer crash or act "funny" or preventing it from booting into Windows, it gives you an easy way to disable ALL of them (including most Spyware and Viruses) until you can fix whatever the problem is and get everything back to normal. robyrob 03-12-2005, 07:57 PM How do you get rid of a virus while your in safe mode the EASIEST way is to update your antivirus software and try run a scan, if it cant remove the virus you want to at least identify WHAT the virus is, then look for a removal tool that you can download and run (in SafeMode) to disable and remove the virus.
