I've never seen Newhart because it's never aired in reruns, it seems like a good show and I like to see it but I havn't. I'm only 17 so I wasn't around when it was originally on. I have seen The Bob Newhart Show on TVLand. I heard that in the final episode of Newhart Bob wakes up in bed with his old wife on that show and it turns out that the entire series was a dream that he had on The Bob Newhart Show which I think is very interesting. My question is does that mean that technically Newhart is a spin-off of the Bob Newhart show, I know it wasn't intended to be a spin-off but what do you guys think?

No they are completely different series. Your question posed is an interesting one...in sorts because it was all in his head (as it turned out).

However, the show became so odd as it went on it seemed like a great way to exit out of a long 8 year run. Great show, certainly one of the best of the 80's.
