View Full Version : Does anyone have friends outside of their race?
GARFIELDKOOL 03-10-2005, 03:33 PM I was talking to some co-workers about it today. We talk about a lot of stuff that goes on in the world. Most of the workers said friends come in all colors, which I agree with. This one white woman, about in her mid-40s said growing up, her father was a bigot. One of her best friends was black. She was not allowed to bring the friend home. One day she said she got tired of her dad's racist ways and he she brought the friend home anyway. Surprisingly, the father went out of his way to extend his hand in a civil way. The rest of the day went normal until later in the evening her father told her, "I would appreciate you telling me ahead of time before you bring any ni-ggers in my house!" She told us she was so hurt and cried for days. She was about 13. Her dad passed a few years ago. Sadly, the world is still like this. Friends come in all colors, don't let no one tell you that. Me, I'm black, and I had a latino friend and a white one and they were both cool as ice. I didn't want to be controversial on this thread, I just wanted to see what others on their thoughts about friends outside of the race.
x3 Taylor x3 03-10-2005, 03:41 PM I have one black friend and that's basically it. I am not racist, there are just like no black people where I live.
Lady T 03-10-2005, 03:44 PM I do not judge people by the color of their skin (that is too ignorant) but I do judge people by their character...Good people come in all colors and creeds, and yes, I have a lot of good friends that are not the same race as I and I love them to death :)
MissZero 03-10-2005, 03:57 PM yeah, i've had friends out of my race...its not something i think about too much because im not one to look at race as an issue
TheGreatPretender 03-10-2005, 04:00 PM Yes.
Small Wonderian 03-10-2005, 09:11 PM Yep. Lots of them. :D
Georgia's on my Mind 03-10-2005, 09:13 PM no, i hate those ppl1!!!~~@#
MaydayMalonesGirl 03-10-2005, 09:15 PM Mhmm. One of the few people I would call a true friend is black. Where I live you have to be tolerant of other races simply because it's such a diverse community. Over 30% of the people in my school are hispanic, and about 20% are black. So yeah...

Yep, ditto.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 03-10-2005, 09:20 PM Not really, but it's not a matter of race...it's just a matter of the people I end up talking to and making friends with. I actually don't remember the last time there was a black kid in one of my classes, except for one girl this year who I talk to...but that's just how I meet people, and I guess maybe that's why.
The Modfather 03-10-2005, 09:25 PM Yes, I have several black friends.
Tundra Wolf 03-10-2005, 09:40 PM I only have 1 black friend, but it's just because there's only a few black people at my school. I'm 100% unracist.
MsOrange 03-10-2005, 10:15 PM I only have 1 black friend, but it's just because there's only a few black people at my school. I'm 100% unracist.
i'ts impossible to be 100% unracist. We're all racist in some form or another--just some are more extreme.
I don't have many true friends as it is, but I don't tihnk any of them are not white. Everyone in my neighbor is white.. and I don't talk to many people from school, so that kidn of narrows it down for me.
GARFIELDKOOL 03-10-2005, 10:19 PM I think we are all prejudice. We all have some prejudices in us. There is a difference between prejudice and racist. I can say I prejudge things, but I can't say I'm a racist.

Janice 03-10-2005, 11:56 PM I have a male friend whom I've known forever who is black. I'm also friends with a black former co-worker. I don't have many black friends. Not by choice...just don't know too many.
MissZero 03-11-2005, 12:18 AM ooh and i'd also like to say that im not just talkin black friends i also mentioned my friends of Asian and Hispanic descent.
dawsongirl 03-11-2005, 01:57 AM I don't have any friends!
Belair 03-11-2005, 02:03 AM Racism has always angered me.When I studied the Civil Rights Movement in the USA,and read about how poorly the African Americans were treated,it made me sick to my stomach. Its so sad that we are all children of God yet we are so ignorant that we judge people by the colour of their damn skin.It seems so stupid and unnecessary.I judge people by their character, not by what they look like, and I always have and always will.
Besides,we all have red blood!
Anyway to answer the question,I dont have many dark-skinned friends because I dont know many dark people, but of course I would be friends with a black person,or anyone outside my race.Racism is a horrible thing.
Number 9 Dream 03-11-2005, 02:13 AM My best friend in elementary school was black and I also dated a black guy in middle school. I also had a few close friends who were Asian and Spanish.

Stormtracker TF 03-11-2005, 04:24 AM I have no friends outside my circle of online friends. Of course that isnt out of choice.
Belair 03-11-2005, 06:13 AM What color blood do gay people have?

That's because society separarate us. We can't change society, but as people, we can make a difference.
The Modfather 03-11-2005, 08:31 AM What color blood do gay people have?
SNAP
Pitooey 03-11-2005, 09:06 AM I do have friends outside my race. In every race there are good and bad people. I don't associate with the bad people. We all have the same red blood and we all go to the bathroom the same way............
Penny Lane 03-11-2005, 11:20 AM I have several Black acquaintances but really no black "friends". I live in a small almost 100% white town. My husband on the other hand, has several black friends whom he met at work in Flint, Mi. In fact, he has 2 or 3 really close black friends.
Czas na Zywiec 03-11-2005, 05:31 PM What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Long time ago, people thought that black people didn't have the same color blood as white people, simply for the fact that they were different than us. You say gay people are "different" than us. So then, according to your own logic, gay people don't have the same color blood as "normal" people.
SBTB Geek 03-11-2005, 05:40 PM I have friends of many different races, LOL.
*MIBabe03* 03-11-2005, 05:54 PM Of course I've got friends outside of my race. It's not a big deal at all.

Yes but that was 'people' who thought that.I'm not 'people'.The colour of someones blood has nothing to do with anything. And Gay people aren't different from us,they are different sexuality, yes, but WE ALL HAVE RED BLOOD,we aren't different there.I cant believe I'm arguing this.By the way,a long time, what colour blood did black people have if it wasn't red?

Point was, people used to think that black people were bad, evil, immoral, etc., stupid sterotypes that people these days have against homosexuals. And look at us now. Fast forward 100 years and people of any race are accepted into our society? Why? Tolerance. If this was 100 years ago, it'd be perfectly acceptable to say that black people were inferior to white people and had diffrent blood, and no body would have argued otherwise. The same goes for homosexuals. No, we're not a 100% non-racist society yet. There are many rural areas that still are backwards and believe in white supremacy, but the majority seem to be better educated these days and accept everyone. I believe the same will occur with people and homosexuality.
rusyd 03-11-2005, 08:35 PM I've had friends and acquaintances of all different races. I don't believe however that racism or ignorance against anyone will ever end. People will always be prejudiced against one thing or another. It is just reality-even if it is not right.
Chad22 03-11-2005, 08:37 PM I'm Too Slow, Therefor I Was Not Invited to be a part of any race. :(
TripperFan 03-11-2005, 09:39 PM I have friends in all races and religions and I think its made my life so much richer than it would be not knowing them. Its not so much the colour, or look of them, but the different cultures. Its fascinating to learn about different backgrounds, foods, music, politics, religions - whatever.
I take everyone at face value and then make up my mind - every individual brings something - good and bad!
Mikado 07-26-2005, 06:34 PM I judge people on who they are inside...hating someone for his skin colour is as dumb as hating a dog with black fur, but loving one cause his fur is white!
swedeace 07-26-2005, 08:07 PM To answer the question: Yes, I do.
I love it because there is so much diversity in culture, sharing, knowledge, backgrounds, etc... It's the same thing on beliefs, too. I learn a lot that way. It's actually mostly from work where I know a variety of people.

That's how I feel. One of my first jobs was for a company who had an unwritten "race" policy (I didn't know this until after I was hired). It sickened me - perfectly qualified people would get turned away.
The next job I had, had ALL races and cultures and it was so LESS boring! As you say, you learn from each other - oh the great foods I've had on our pot luck days!! yum!
TheGreatPretender 07-26-2005, 09:11 PM I have black friends, hispanic friends and caucasion friends. My school has many different towns and kids in it.

It's rather funny how whenever someone JUST says that being gay is a choice, or that gay marriage is wrong, everyone starts ragging on them for being "prejudice". ALL Belair said previously is that gay people choose to be gay. she also said that she has a friend who is gay, and that someday she might decide she likes women. i know it's not true that you choose your sexuality, but no one has the right to jump to the conclusion that someone else hates gay people just because they think homosexuality is a choice. That is prejudice. judging someone by their theories regarding the science of homosexuality is just as wrong as judging someone by their sexual preference. it's ABSOLUTE HYPOCRISY.
Zions Mother 07-26-2005, 09:29 PM African American, Caucasian, Egyptian, Lebanese, Greek, Serbian, Polish, Ukranian, Hungarian, Czech, etc......
