Yeah, I didn't understand why he brushed James's death off like that. Why he didn't show up for his funeral?
TVFactFan 03-07-2005, 09:17 PM Yeah, I didn't understand why he brushed James's death off like that. Why he didn't show up for his funeral?
Yeah it was odd that He makes a guest appearance in season 4 but that appearance was not for James Funeral episode instead it was for Thanksgiving
Jefffalan 03-08-2005, 12:00 AM They really should have had him at the funeral in Part Two of "The Big Move". I know he and James had not been close until "The Family Tree" in episode 3, but it would have been a nice addition to see HIM trying to cope with his son's death, and blaming himself for not being there all those years. It might have even turned into a THREE parter. Oh, well . . .

Who's to say he wasn't at the funeral? He just didn't show up at the house, that's all. Maybe he just couldn't bring himself to visit the house so soon after James had died. Who knows?
I know it's pretty much like I'm searching for something, but I'd like to think that he at least was there for the funeral service, which is something we didn't get to see. And there were other family members/friends of the Evans that should have been there but weren't (at least at the house anyway). Who knows? Maybe they all were there... even Maude... (calm down TVShowAnalyzer... I'm just kidding about Maude ;))

I don't think the Grandpa character should have been brought back at all since he wasn't in the episode BIG MOVE. Seeing him appear after the funeral episode just made no sense.

Why is that?

Because that character wasn't at the house after the funeral to pay his respects so to me that character was no longer needed. It just looked weird to me for the GRANDFATHER to just appear out of no where and couldn't come pay his respects after the funeral for his own son.

OK, here is yet another case of you not reading (or comprehending) anything that I've written. As I said 4 posts ago, he may have been at the funeral. We don't know for sure that he wasn't. And if he wasn't at the house afterwards, it may have been too painful for him to have been there so soon after James died.
It wasn't just the grandfather either whose presence was missed. There were plenty of other family members and friends who should have been there to pay their respects to James' family. How do we know that they weren't there?

Why would a close relative like a grandfather go to the funeral and not come back to the house? Everyone who attends the funeral services come back to the house. Ned the Wino, Wanda, and Bookman paid their respects so why couldn;t he? LIke I said his character should have beencut from the show completely
James"Thunder"Early 03-17-2005, 08:11 PM John Amos was fired so I think the episode "The Big Move" was put together quick and Grandpa Evans was left out of the script. I think they brought Grandpa Evans back to show to make up for him not being in the funeral or even metioned. Grandpa Evans just wasn't written in "The Big Move".

But the Ned the Wino character was brought back and he wasn;t seen at all the previous season. So since the actor who played the Grandfather who was just on the show in late 75 early 76, could have been brought back for the Big Move. Not bring hm back in mid season 4 to shack up with some women in Thelma's room-lol What the hell was that about?

Also, Edster, even if Grampa Evans was at the unseen funeral, somebody in the family would have mentioned it. For example, Thelma coming back to the house saying "grampa surely took it hard."

Ed just likes to debate-lol He knows that Henry Evans was in New Orleans and not at the funeral
