Beginning this Wednesday, Dan Rather is stepping down as anchorman for CBS News. For those of you who haven't seen it yet, it's your last chance to see it.:(

I'm not really a big fan of his but it will seem strange without him being there. Do you know who is taking his place?

Bob Schieffer who hosts Face the Nation and is about as old as Dan Rather is being called his interm replacement, rumor has it CBS is dying to get Katie Couric whose contract is up at NBC in 2006, but I doubt if she decides to go bigger and better than the Today Show, she would choose the CBS Evening News considering it is dead last between the 3 networks in ratings, and the fact that nightly news viewership is not that high due to the Internet, Fox News, MSNBC, etc.

Do you live on the moon Captain? ;)

I do.

It's chilly here.

No sign of the captain as yet.

I had a feeling this would happen. Soon as I saw a thread about Dan Rather leaving, I knew people would come in and trash Dan. The majority of people on SO seem to dislike Dan, but everybody is entitled to their opinion & I'm entitled to mine. I know Dan Rather personally & corresponded with him over the phone for a few years when I worked in radio and I have nothing but respect for Mr. Rather. He was always a gentleman to work with & still sends me a Christmas card every year. I, for one am sad to see Dan go off the air. Say what you will about him, he's never been afraid to back down or ashamed his personal beliefs no matter what the public thought.

Sadly he ain't leaving the way Tom Brokaw did with class and at the top of his game.

From past experience, I've learned that the topic of Dan Rather is too controversial for this board. The issue of what happened with Rather and CBS is directly related to President Bush. It doesn't get more political than that, and politics are not allowed on Sitcoms Online.

In the interest of fairness to Dan Rather fans and detractors, I'm closing this thread. I don't want anyone starting another thread about it. Thanks.
