View Full Version : Ward and June never talked about their own lives
GARFIELDKOOL 03-05-2005, 03:19 PM I know the show centered around Beaver, but the two never talked about their own social lives. When they did, the focus shifted back to beaver and Wally. Just once, I wanted to see an episode revolved around Ward and June.
miss landers 03-05-2005, 08:12 PM It would have been good to see one episode out of the 234 that focused just on Ward and June. After all, during the last years, the focus shifted more and more away from Beaver and onto Wally. If they could make episodes about "just Wally" why couldn't they have made one teeny, tiny episode about "just Ward and June?" Huh? How come? In some of the late "just Wally" episodes, Beaver showed up but he needn't have even bothered to make an appearance because he wasn't crucial to the plot and had nothing to say that couldn't have been said by Ward or June. Beaver was just baggage. So how come the producers couldn't have given us one episode about just Ward and June?
They could have, I'm sure, but they probably thought that would not be keeping with the theme of the show; that of a family comedy in which the kids were always the ones focused upon. The viewers' were to involve their attention on B, W, and the other kids, so Ward and June were just there to be parents who provide, guide, worry and solve. It's a rare glimpse of either of them doing anything or dealing with anybody which was independent of anything having to do with W & B.
What kind of storyline would you like to have seen with Ward and June as the focus?

An episode that would involve Ward's job or June's friends.
Probably besides the Rutherfords ;) ?
GARFIELDKOOL 03-06-2005, 01:05 AM Yeah. Someone else rather than the Rutherfords.

Here's my storyline for the Ward and June episode:
"Second Honeymoon"
June and Ward win a 6 day trip to New York City that includes a stay in a luxurious hotel suite, dinners in the finest restaurants, sightseeing tours, theater tickets, and shopping sprees in the best stores.
After seeing a performance of "West Side Story" on Broadway, June begins to worry that the boys may have joined a gang in her absence and are playing with knives. She tells Ward they should cut the trip short and go home to check on the boys.
Ward believes a phone call back home will prove her fears groundless. The call is made and an anxious June learns from Aunt Martha (who's babysitting the boys) that Beaver toasted a peanut butter sandwich in the waffle iron and Wally contracted a very mild case of Tinea Cruris*.
Ward persuades his wife that neither incident necessitates ruining their "second honeymoon" (as the two of them have begun to call it) by cutting the trip short and hurrying home. June agrees, realizing that it's not only important to give her children all the care and attention they NEED but it's equally important to give her husband all the care and attention he DESERVES!
At the end of the episode, Ward and June are seen hugging and kissing in the torch at the Statue of Liberty.

Mijada 03-06-2005, 12:42 PM Well Ward did belong to the country club and that had nothing to do with the boys. June would occasionally entertain friends and she and Ward would go to the occasional barbecue but yes each ep did center around the boys. I guess once you get married and have kids they become your life. Ward and June probably would have felt like bad parents if they always took off with friends and left the kids alone.
howilu 03-06-2005, 01:04 PM How about this one? The Cleavers go to Ward's Seabees reunion.

That's a good one! How about a Christmas Party for Ward's office? An episode where after the boys are in bed Ward and June reminice about when they first met and fell in love. How about an episode where June feels neglected by Ward working all the time and finally tells him that she wants him to take her away for a week?
Hey, miss landers, this was a good topic. You had alot of stories about Wally, why don't you write one on Ward and June? You brought this up after all. ;)
