I think Julia Roberts gave the best performance she will probably EVER give in Erin Brockovich and basically made the film what it was. Hilary Swank is a close second, but I have to give the edge to Roberts. Halle Berry was overrated. Charlize Theron was good, but not spectacular. And I have not and have no desire to see The Hours, even though I like Nicole Kidman.

This one is difficult. I really loved both of Hilary's, but I don't know which one I like more. But then, Julia also gave a very memorable performance, and Charlize was just amazing.

I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby or Monster yet, but from the list I have to say that none of these performances seemed to be the best of the year. Julia Roberts - I really thought Erin Brockovich was overrated (anyone else notice she didn't thank the real Erin Brockovich in her acceptance speech?) and she wasn't that spectacular in it. I've seen her give much stronger performances - she probably should have won for Steel Magnolias.

Halle Berry - another overrated performance, and for some reason she beat out two much stronger performances that year: Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge and Renee Zellwegger in Bridget Jones's Diary. I'd have given it to Nicole for the film she wasn't nominated for that year but was much better in: The Others.

And then Nicole won for The Hours, which wasn't even a starring role in my opinion. That film belonged much more to Meryl Streep, Kidman was a good supporting part. She won just because she lost the year before. Renee should have won for Chicago.

So no, I don't have a favorite of those performances. Not the best choices the Academy's been making recently.

are you kidding? When I saw EB in the theater when it first came out, I KNEW that Julia was gonna win an Oscar for the part, and if she didn't, she would've been robbed. And then she did win. I was so proud of her because I felt she deserved it. Apparently others felt the same way too

I have to agree with that.
