View Full Version : Daytime Emmy Nominations
Jrnygrl 03-02-2005, 12:59 PM Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced
ABC's "All My Children" has earned 18 daytime Emmy nominations, while "The View" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" each had 11 in talk show categories.
DeGeneres' show won last year's award for best talk show -- in its freshman season -- and will be competing in that category this year against "The View," "Live With Regis & Kelly," "Dr. Phil," and "Soap Talk."
"All My Children" will compete for best drama series, with its star Michael E. Knight (right) nominated for best actor along with Roger Howarth of "As the World Turns," Jack Wagner of "The Bold and the Beautiful," Steve Burton of "General Hospital," Grant Aleksander of "Guiding Light" and Christian Jules LeBlanc of "The Young and the Restless."
Oddly, the eight nominees for best actress didn't include anyone from "All My Children" or seemingly perennial nominee Susan Lucci.
The best actress nominees were: Martha Byrne, "As the World Turns;" Susan Flannery, "The Bold and the Beautiful;" Nancy Lee Grahn, "General Hospital;" Kim Zimmer, "Guiding Light;" Erika Slezak and Kassie DePaiva, "One Life to Live;" Juliet Mills, "Passions;" and Michelle Stafford, "The Young and the Restless."
"Martha Stewart Living" received three nominations. With her release from prison scheduled for Sunday, she'll be able to attend the awards ceremony, scheduled for May 20th at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
CBS will televise the 32nd annual awards.
"General Hospital" and "Guiding Light" both received 13 nominations, as did the venerable children's show "Sesame Street."
The hosts of all the nominated talk shows also earned nominations for best talk show host.

HuntingtonM15 03-03-2005, 12:07 AM I'm really glad Michelle is nominated again. I'm also glad that Christian is nominated again, but this time in the LEAD actor category! As far as I'm concerned, he should already have an Emmy, but, ah well. It's great to see Jeanne Cooper nominated, but...Supporting Actress? I know she hasn't been on that much lately, but for a good part of the year, she seemed very lead to me. I even recall reading an article about how she was working 4-5 day weeks for a couple months. Regardless, it's great to see her nominated. I'm happy for Greg Rikaart as well. It takes a great actor to portray a psycho like Kevin! It's nice to see David Lago nominated once again. I'd like to see him win it this time. I think he deserved it in the past, and since he's no longer on the show...yeah, I'd like to see him get it. Though, Michael Graziadei?...He wouldn't have been one of my choices. Congrats to Heather Tom as well.
Jrnygrl 03-03-2005, 12:19 AM Huntington thanks for posting the list. I couldn't find it earlier. I'm glad to see that Gregg Rikkart was nominated. I still can't believe that Y&R wasn't nominated for best drama series. It is the only soap that keeps a consistantly good storyline.
HuntingtonM15 03-03-2005, 12:26 AM Y&R is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. It is nominated along with AMC, ATWT, and GH.
Miss Golden 03-03-2005, 12:39 AM KASSIE DEPAIVA should win it this year, she has definately paid her dues.
Sterling Holobyte 03-03-2005, 12:46 AM I guess since Lyndsey Fonseca left, Y&R no longer has anyone that could fit the Outstanding Younger Actress In A Drama Series category.

I'm still surprised that she wasn't nominated last year. Christel Khalil and Lauren Woodland were. Perhaps they saw the episode with Bobby and Brittany's wedding and decided not to nominate her this year.

Or vashti1999. Take your pick.

HuntingtonM15 03-03-2005, 02:12 PM It just occurred to me...Melody Thomas Scott gave some really great performances this year. It's a shame that she's hardly recognized by the Emmy's.

Susan Lucci number 2 maybe?
factsoflife 03-04-2005, 05:44 PM Seriously these nominations are a big joke. Juliet Mills? no. Kassie De Pavia? not for this year, she should have won 2 years ago from Live week. No Maura West? No Beth Elhers? what!
Erika Slezak had nothing to do in 2004. this is the worst nominees ever.

angel676 03-05-2005, 10:23 PM I'm surprised that Deidre Hall(Marlena) or Alison Sweeney(Sami) on Days wasn't nominated for Best Lead Actress. Also surprisingly, Days was once again shafted, which totally bites. These nominations are horrific. It's always ABC and CBS that gets the nominations.
All I can say is that this NBC fan and many many other NBC fans are pi@@ed. Okay, I'm done ranting!!!
Congratulations to AMC!!!!! It’s awesome they got the most nominations! :)
Eden Riegel MUST WIN!!!!!!!!!

its not really a surprise. Deidre Hall has a very odd history with the Daytime Emmys, she's been nomianted a total of three times, with her most recent nod in 1985. she hasn't placed herself into consideration many times since than. so its not much of a surprise that she wasn't nominated. and Sweeny has never been nominated before, shes only won a special fans award in 2002 and that was for Favorite villian a category that was given out only one time. This show has been much more successful at the Soap Opera Digest Awards where Hall has four or five wins. and Sweeny as four.
NBC doesn't have many nods for a variety of reasons, cheif among them is the fact that with the way voting is set-up they have a disadvantage because they only have two soaps and thus get less voters on the panel. CBS gets more nods cause they h ave four soaps and ABC is second with three soaps. Also the quality hurts NBC a lot, they have some talented performers but largley the writing is seen as ameturish and inane. especially Passions. DOOL simply didn't have the greatest year in 2004. they had a very ill-recieved storyline that critics just laughed at.
ABC and CBS certianly had their fair share of crappy stories in 2004, i won't argue with that. but for the most part they were leap-years ahead of NBC.. i mean secret islands holding dead people hostage and witches, warlocks and incest don't exactly make up quality tv. (althoug CBS's Guiding Light had its share of incest as well, lol).
But i agree the nods were mostly horrific... it seems like the most warranted nominees were left off the list all-together, can you SERIOUSLY tell me that Beth Elhers, Maura West, Cady McClain, Bobbie Eakes, Justin Bruning and Susan Lucci were less deserving than Juilet Mills, Kassie De Paiva, Susan Flannery, Jacob Young and Jack Wagner????
sorry for the long rant.
