I saw this episode the other day. Its not one of the best

I really think this episode is one of the best. Having fun with friends v. family obligations... giving kids permission, then rescinding it for something more important... being who you want to be v. appearing to be something else to please certain 'special' people... expecting kids to sacrifice 'a little' because they receive so much form parents... kids getting back at parents by sneering at what they couldn't do when they wanted to do it, and in line with Ward's precept, making others happy v. making ourselves more happy.

These are all good conflicts for a family comedy in the late 50's, when rules and expectations were more defined and rigid-- at least by the adult generations of that time. That is why neither Aunt Martha nor June thought it at all unfitting to say they were visiting within an hour or 2 and expecting the boys to be part of it.

The theme is probably timeless as to kids not liking to get a sample of the more rigid expectations of past generations. I'm sure similar cases still happen.

I didn't like this episode, either.

I make this episode sound like it is horrible. It is realy not bad its just when there are so many episodes not all of them can be the best.
