i'm always hoping for dvd news on my favorite shoes, and WKRP, with its music licensing problems, seems to be that ONE show that we never get an honest answer about, well there's SOME news on the TVShowsonDVD.com (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=3023)site:

WKRP in Cincinnati - 'It's being looked at' despite obstacles, Fox says

Very recently I had a chance to talk with Katie Dean, a reporter for Wired News, about music clearance issues and other obstacles which sometimes keep our favorite TV series from arriving on DVD. WKRP is one of my own personal faves, and I've wanted to see it come to DVD before Gord ever asked me to come help work with him here at TVShowsOnDVD.

As Katie and I talked, I lamented about how "the indication from the studios is that we may never see (WKRP in Cincinnati) because of all the music that would have to be licensed. ", and she quoted me on that, and on many more portions of our interview, in her new article today, "Copyrights Keep TV Shows off DVD".

Katie took the matter to property-holder Fox Home Entertainment, though, and asked them to talk about the show's chances of hitting DVD. The answer was very straight and to-the-point about the music licensing issues, but also gave fans like me a glimmer of hope. Here's me quoting Katie this time, and Fox as well:

Fox Home Entertainment wouldn't provide an official release date for DVDs of the show.

"It's not totally dead in the water, but there is a huge obstacle of music licensing," said spokeswoman Shari Rosenblum. "It's being looked at and it's on the radar."

Again, it's not much more than a glimmer, but who knows where that ray of sunshine may end up? This is just a quick update give you that small bit of hope, but I can't stress enough not to get your hopes up *too* based on this. Let's just sit back, relax, enjoy some great DVDs in the meantime, and see what happens. Thanks for the helpful info and for the nice conversation, Katie...call me again anytime!

To know that it is actually being talked about and looked at is a huge step forward in any case.

If Shout Factory could do it (clear all the music) for Freaks and Geeks, I'm assuming that Fox is thinking they could pull this off with WKRP.

I would think WKRP would have a bigger audience anyway.

Let's hope to hear more soon.

this is excellent news!
is there anyway to e-mail foxdvd to tell them i would be willing to pay alot more money for the WKRP IN CINCINNATI dvds?

WKRP will be a big seller and fox knows it!

like i said many times before.
if paramount can release "happy days" season 1 with original music there's no reason why fox can't release all 90 episodes of WKRP IN CINCINNATI on dvd with original music and make alot of money.
i read that fox is GOING to release season 2 of "the mary tlyer moore show" in the near future despite the fact season 1 of "the mary tlyer moore show" sold poorly.
so maybe its good omen of things to come!

i'm looking forword to getting this "WKRP IN CINCINNATI" board cooking again.
who knows maybe fox will resyndicate reruns of "WKRP IN CINCINNATI" with... original music!
everybody knows the reason WKRP did'nt do well in the ratings on nick@nite in 1999 was because half of the music was replaced!

I wouldn't mind paying quite a bit of money to have WKRP uncut!

If Miami Vice could be pulled off,I would think they would be able to get WKRP done.Vice had the same probs with the music if I remember correctly.I am hoping WKRP gets done,it is one of the best shows out there not on DVD.I would pay more for it in the uncut form as well.Later,Jeff
