Well, if you see the pilot episode and the episode that was "before Friends started" you can see how they became friends. I can admit that if I hadn't seen the background on how they came to be friends it would seem a little weird that such different people would actually hang out together.

Friends? Lovers? Husband and Wife? Brother and Sister? Brothers-In-Law. Maybe they should call the show Friends, Family, and all the rest.

Its SO obvious that those guys r friends. ( both on TV and in real life)I mean come on..they live across from each other, they just walk into each others houses. It is SO obvious. HOw could u ask a question like that..lol

If you saw the episode where Janice is asking "Who of the six of you has slept with who of the six of you?" and it goes back to 3 years earlier you will see that Monica and Ross are brother and sister, Ross and Chandler were college roommates, Rachael was Monica's best friend in High school, Joey moved in with Chandler after the photographer guy was fooled by the wacked dude downstairs who said that he was Chandler new roommate and so the photographer left. But I have absolutely no idea how the met Pheobe!

At the beginning of the series Phoebe was Monica's roommate; that's how she gets in the picture.
