This topic might have been talked about before, but not while I was here. I have a question about TDVDS theme song...

I know there were originally supposed to be words for the theme song. I don't know the words off the top of my head, but you can see them on TVLand.com

Anyways, my question... why were the words never used? I would prefer not using the words, so it's not like I'm dying LOL, but... I just want to know. My curiosity.... Hahaha.

Have a nice day!!

The words were never used on the show. Dick Van Dyke performed them in Syndey Australia with a singing group, the clip of which can be seen on TDVDS season sets, though which season escapes me for the moment. He also sang it at the first annual TV Land awards three years ago, which is the first time I ever heard the lyrics. The lyrics were written by Morey Amsterdam. Lolac :music:

I believe Dick Van Dyke singing the theme song is available in the season 4 set. If you would like to hear it online, The Walnut Times (http://www.thewalnuttimes.com/multimedia.htm) has a .mp3 for download of Dick singing it with his group, The Vantastix.

I just found the lyrics to the theme song at the official website. I thought you all might like to see them.

Thanks for all of your help! You guys are awesome! But I'm still wondering, why weren't the theme songs ever used on the show?

FuNkYdOrYgUrL07,
Probably just the way they preferred things back then. There are also lyrics to "The Andy Griffith Show," "I Dream Of Jeannie," "Lost In Space," and "Gilligan's Island" (oops, they used those)! Most of the time, they just went with the tune  .

Oh okay. I was very curious if there was some weird, out there, reason for not using the lyrics. But okay.... Thanks! I appreciate your time helping me!

Thanks for all of your help! You guys are awesome! But I'm still wondering, why weren't the theme songs ever used on the show? My guess is that Mr. Amsterdam came up with the lyrics after the show was airing, making the lyrics more of a novelty than the 'official' lyrics. All due respect: personally I don't feel they're in character with the show. Seem like more of an afterthought.
