I'll give the show a try.... but Thursday at 8 is a tough hour, and I don't think I'll be sticking with the series for the long run, unless it is much better than Survivor and the Joey/Will & Grace combo.

I'm going to give it a try on the 13th, if it sticks I'm going to have record on the other DVD Recorder since I record Survivor in my room.

I don't know about Survivor, but it certainly will be better than the NBC comedies (ratings and quality wise).

Yeah... it'll be considered a hit by me if it makes second place, which I think is a good bet(at least for the Thursday premiere).

I'll probably fall in the floor if it beats Survivor.

The ratings were decent. Not DH type numbers of course, but still #1 in its timeslot among adults 18-49 and second in total viewers/households.
"Pilot" got a 8.7/13. "Stand by Me" got a 7.7/12. If ABC gets something like that for Thursdays, it will be considered a hit. The "Pilot" was down from EM: HE's 10.3/16 in the 8pm hour, though.

The drop-off for the 2nd episode isn't good though.

That is true, though I think the adults 18-49 was more steady.

Here is the early report:

"Pilot" - 8.7/13 Fast Nationals (#2), 9.8/14 in the overnights (#2), 13.93 million viewers (#2), 5.8/13 among adults 18-49 (#1)
"Stand by Me" - 7.7/12 Fast Nationals (#2), 8.5/12 in the overnights (#2), 11.96 million viewers (#2), 5.1/12 among adults 18-49 (#1).

One of the shows I was most looking forward to this season, and it pretty much let me down. The promos made it seem a lot better than it was.

Yes... I will not be back on Thursdays to watch(and that's saying something because 8-9pm is open this week with no Survivor). I didn't even consider it a sitcom because it really wasn't funny and the lack of a studio audience didn't give it the feel either.

I'm expecting a quick drop to third behind NBC(if it doesn't just start off that way). Joey/Will and Grace are only pulling a little less than what Jake's 2nd episode did. It's on ABC toughest night as well which is a strike against it.

I thought it was just okay. It struggled to hold my interest the first half hour, but then that was after having just watched an episode of Arrested Development, and for me, AD continues to be the funniest show on television.

Barwars, what will you do if they all go head to head: Jake In Progress, Joey & Survivor?

Tape Survivor and watch Joey/Will & Grace. I've taped every episode of Survivor since Africa anyways.

JIP was good, but I much prefer Survivor or the Joey/Will & Grace combo.

But I have two weeks where I can watch JIP and tape Joey/W&G. Unless it REALLY starts to impress me, it'll always be option #3.

I have never seen a program more promoted than this one by ABC. They have blown off promoting a good deal of the rest of their primetime shows to use it to promo Jake in Progress and Blind Justice. Since I am a fan of several other ABC shows (like 8 Simple Rules) I am quite annoyed at this network. They have put some of these other shows in the ratings dumpster by no longer promoting these other shows, and using all the promo times for these two new shows.

Here is Marc Berman's take on the Jake In Progress Premiere from his Programming Insider :

In series-premiere news, two episodes of Sex in the City wannabe Jake in Progress on ABC from 9-10 p.m. got off to a disappointing start. While no one expected ratings in the caliber of regularly scheduled occupant Desperate Housewives, the first episode kicked off with a 9.8/14 in the overnights (#2), 13.93 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 5.8/13 among adults 18-49 from 9-9:30 p.m. Comparatively, that was off from lead-in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Overnights: #2, 11.2/16; Viewers: #1, 18.22 million; A18-49: #1, 7.6/18 from 8-9 p.m.) by 12 percent in the overnights, 4.29 million viewers and 24 percent among adults 18-49. Although that is certainly not bad, episode No. 2 at 9:30 p.m. lost considerable steam, falling to second in all three categories with an 8.5/12 in the overnights, 11.96 million viewers and a 5.1/12 among adults 18-49. Had ABC really had faith in Jake in Progress, it would have scheduled it Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. out of According To Jim instead of two weekly episodes in the Thursday 8 p.m. hour. Opposite CBS' Survivor: Palau, Jake in Progress does not stand a chance.

I agree with you on the According to Jim part. I think those shows do not mix. One of them is a family show and one is more of an adult show. I do agree with his take on the drop off from the Extreme Makeover lead in and the drop off from the first show to the second half hour.

The pilot: Not bad.. :) I like Patrick he is funny. I like Adriane. I like Wendy Malick glad to see she is on the show. I really like how they make the screen half and half very clever. So we see everything that is going on. One question tho, how come Jake only sneezed once when the cat was around but then he was fine after? :)

Stand by your man:

Very funny. :) Gay guy who is really straight and one of the gay guys says to him I forgive you for being straight. so wierd.. :) Jake and Patrick are friends now so he wanted to help him out in the resturant.. Jake was doing the right thing geez! Glad his date didn't work out she just didn't understand ugh! Poor Adriane! His inlaws just don't like him but loves Jake ROFL. I burst out laughing when the gay guy said he is really straight. I thought he was going to say that him and his boyfriend broke up ROFL. I gotta say, I will be watching this show. :)

From the Daily News:

Ratings Are Not All "Jake"

By RICHARD HUFF
DAILY NEWS TV EDITOR

ABC gave "Jake in Progress" the coveted "Desperate Housewives" time slot Sunday night, and the new series got half the audience the drama normally draws.

The two episodes of the John Stamos comedy - billed as a male "Sex and the City" - averaged just under 13 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

For comparison, "Desperate Housewives" - repeat and original episodes - have averaged 23.1 million viewers this season.

Stamos shouldn't get too upset, though. Last week wasn't great for any of the new shows that have launched during the midseason.

Also struggling to find an audience was NBC's critically acclaimed reality show "The Contender," which aired last Thursday in "ER's" time slot.

The Mark Burnettproduced series averaged 8.9 million viewers, half of what the medical drama draws. And when a new episode of "The Contender" aired Sunday, it drew just 6.9 million viewers against ABC's tough "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

ABC's new drama "Blind Justice," from the producers of "NYPD Blue," averaged 12.3 million viewers.

Kelsey Grammer's "Sketch Show" for Fox averaged 5.39 million viewers, finishing well down the Nielsen charts.

The WB's new reality show "Starlet" averaged 2.1 million viewers.

I flipped by and watched a good part of it since 8pm was open, and it was pretty good. Not enough to turn me away from Survivor, but it's a decent alternative when it's not on. Ratings weren't that good

CBS stayed the night in first with the 6.2/10 for tournament basketball. NBC averaged a 6.0/10 for two episodes of "Will & Grace" and took second. The first pair of "Jake in Progress" episodes on ABC did a solid 5.0/8, nipping the returns for FOX's "The O.C." UPN was fifth with "WWE Smackdown," but The WB's Jeff Foxworthy special nearly caught up with a robust 2.9/5.

NBC grabbed first for the 9 p.m. hour with an 8.1/13 for an "Apprentice" clip show, by far the night's highest ratings. CBS' basketball dropped to second, but also improved to a 6.9/11. ABC's two repeat "Jake" episodes were third, doing almost the same numbers as the originals. UPN's "Smackdown" was fourth with a 3.4/5, beating the 2.8/4 for "Point Pleasant" on FOX. The WB trailed with an encore of "The Starlet."

While a 5.0/8 for the 8pm hour is not what I expected. That is still much higher than what Extreme Makeover or life as we know it did. The episodes averaged over 7 million viewers, good enough for now I guess. What is interesting is that the 9pm hour did better in adults 18-49 than the 8pm hour. Maybe they should move it 9pm next season, if it comes back.

If you missed last night's episodes, ABC has again scheduled encores for 9-10pm on Thursday, March 24:

"Jake In Progress" will air as one time only telecasts on Thursday, March 24, 2005 in the 9:00PM & 9:29PM ET/PT time periods.

Also, the new episodes at 8:00 and 8:30 will be formatted as one episode, but it really will be two episodes (same format as the March 13 preview, end credits at the end of the 8:30pm episode ONLY for both episodes).

The only reason it got those ratings are because Survivor was not on. With the NCAA tournament getting just a 6.4 and Survivor usually pulling in about a 14, Jake will go down when Survivor returns.
