I remember seeing her in the mystery show,"Beyond Belief, Fact or Fiction" a few years ago. She had put on some weight.

Seems like she basically lost her job because Mike Evans left the show. They kept her around through 1983, but in the 82-83 season whenever she appeared she was credited as a guest star. To me without Lionel her character was like a fish out of water and it was hard to justify her existence in the show without either of the Lionel actors there.

One thing I always wondered - if a person's name isn't in the main titles does that mean that he or she isn't entitled to residual monies? I also noticed that after Mike Evans came back in years 6-8 Berlinda's name appears above his in the opening, although they both appear on the screen together. Then again, Roxie Roker's name appears above Franklin Cover's and although most viewers think of George as being the main character, Isabel Sanford's name always appeared first on a separate screen BEFORE Sherman Hemsley's name. Does any of this have anything to do with how much the actors were paid?

Isabel was paid more because she was acting longer than Sherman. Sherman's first acting job was the role of George Jefferson. Isabel was in Movies before All in the Family in the Late 60's.

Have you ever seen Isabel on Bewitched? Samantha got zapped back into slavery time and Isabel saw her and brought her home to her master who took a liking to her. :)

I saw that episode. That was in the 68-69 season. It is funny to see those performers in roles before the 70s. I saw a 1964 film called Nothing But A Man and Esther Rolle is seen in a wedding scene (with no dialogue- she was an extra but she is right there as plain as day).

It's interesting that Isabel was paid more than Sherman because Sherman was considered by many to be the true lead in the show. On Good Times since Esther Rolle was billed first I would then assume that she was paid more than John Amos?

In some shows where there are 2 leads who make the same money they bill their names in the same screen simultaneously with one name in the lower left and the other in the upper right. Laverne and Shirley and the first 5 seasons of Cheers were like that.

She also played a madam in "lady sings the blues". She was the one that told Diana Ross she had 10 seconds to leave with the record she kept listening too. It was in the beginning of the movie.

I know. Whenever I watch The Jeffersons, it's pretty much for Sherman. Isabel really got on my nerves sometimes in the show. That's probably why Sherman went on to other shows and roles after The Jeffersons.

According to Berlinda's acting credits, she never appeared in that movie. Could it be someone else who just looked like her?

Yes, Sanford played a 'Madam' in 1972's "Lady Sings The Blues". For the few minutes she was on in the opening (when Lady Day has her flashbacks in jail) she is superb.

Wow! That's alot of dough for one episode!! You sure it wasn't maybe $6,000? Maybe I can see it was $60,000 for a whole season, but it seems a little much for one show.

You think $60,000 per episode is a lot? Uh...what about the cast of Friends who made $1 million per episode? Charlie Sheen gets paid $1 million per episode of "Two and a Half Men"! Not, that is a lot of money!

I'm sure it was 60 grand. I know George was popular and all but the show would not have been popular without Isabel and vice versa. I think Isabel was given top billing because she started in that role three years before Sherman came on aboard on "All in the family". Maybe she had squater's rights and the previous credits as Sherman had not at the time.

Berlinda was on the show as a regular until 1981 and then went to recurring untill 1983 and then she and Mike came back for the two part "Sayonara" episode in 1985. She was only MIA for a little more than a season and a half

Sherman's gone on the record saying he had no problem with Isabel getting top billing (from an interview on ET).
