What's the deal with that white chair? The Cleavers seemed to have good taste in interior decorating... or at least, common sense, 1950s sense. Yet in the "big" house in the later episodes, there was that horrific white chair in the living room.

It was the one that Beaver leaned on when listening to Wally get scolded for something. It was also the "phone" chair as it seemed to be the prefered place to sit while doing the yak-yak on the tele.

The print was way out of place in the room. It was stark white with cowboys and horses, I think. It stood out in the decor much like the clipper ship lamp in the boys' room.

What was the print on this chair and why do you think they put it in the show since it was so obviously out of place?

I believe that chair was a toile print which was quite popular then. My grandparents had wallpaper in their house that was of a similar pattern. Much of the decor in the Cleaver house was ugly imo, especially the wall hangings. I never understood the purpose of that clown picture in the boys room because didn't fit in with their interests at all. Where the heck were all the models the kids were always working on? Or Wally's athletic trophies? It would have been cool to see that stuff displayed.
