I saw Beaver's Bad Day on TV Land this week where Beaver ripped his pants and lied to his parents and I remember the scene where Eddie said to Beaver about Wally "I could lick him with one hand tied behind my back." It got me to wondering. Was Eddie a bully in the early episodes before becoming the jive-talking wiseguy who usually called Wally "Sam'?

I wouldn't say Eddie was a bully, his bark was worse than his bite and Wally knew that and never had a problem standing up to Eddie. I think all Eddie was guilty of was being a smart ass. Although, maybe he sort of bullied the younger kids when Wally wasn't there to defend them or to tell him to back off so maybe he was in that way. Sorry, I just thought about that.

The earliest episode I remember seeing Eddie was #10 "The Clubhouse." I don't remember Eddie being a bully - ie, he didn't threaten anyone physically but he was a wise guy. He charged Beaver $3 to join the club instead of the $1 he charged the other guys.
