Grady was also bad at first names: Aunt Esther (to Grady): "'Esther.' No 'L'." Grady: "Oh well Noel and a Merry Christmas to you to!, Esther.."
Officer Hopkins (Hoppy): He had none, but he mangled the then-current black slang. Officer Smith: He corrected Hoppy on that and also "translated" what Hoppy and Officer Swannhauser (Swanny) said.
