I haven't really had any time to colorize of late. Been working a lot out of state and the last couple of weeks I've been trying to shake this cold.

I finally added a section of Drag-U-La replica's, (D'Replica's) to the website yesterday. I'd been putting it off for quite a while, because of the lack of time. Eventually I'll get caught up and have a bit more free time... :)

(I was going to colorize a few shots on the laptop when I was out of town. However, the mini-mouse I have decided to not work for a hill of beans while I was gone. I have to get a new one to use on the road.)

I'll have to see what else I can sneak in... :D

I'd colorize some for ya, but I'm really lazy. But I did upload a new pic in my avatar, as a matter of fact I will up load a new one every week. One of Herman, one of Lily, Grandpa, and so on...

Munsters#1, since you have the Munster Go Home DVD and I think now you've been doing screen captures from DVDs off your computer, how about posting some from the Munster Go Home DVD? I tried taking some snapshots with my digital camera off the AMC recording on videotape, but they didn't come out too well.
Scenes that take place in the Munster house at the beginning of the movie would be good so I'd have some color references for the rooms when I colorized photos. The color of the walls and various things in the rooms are tough to guess.

I don't know, after a long hard day at the office sipping coffee, I'm very tired. LOL!

I don't think they were the actual originals, but similar reconstructs. Many or most of the set pieces seemed to be originals though (like the painting over the mantle, the organ). Unfortunately, all we see is the livingroom, dining room and entry way. I think the stairs are only shown for a brief moment.

Munsters#1, the MGH screen caps are pretty cool! However, they aren't very clear. I did some a while back and they're the same way. Obviously, the DVD isn't very clear. It seemed to be clearer on AMC the other day. Hopefully, they'll re-release the movie at the same time as season two is released. (I know we all want it as an extra in that package, but I doubt it will happen.)

Sorry that there so dark. The Good Times DVD version made it very dark.

Also, I do think they will put Munster, Go Home! on the Seaon 2 DVD. I'll give you some reasons why.

1. There would be plenty of space on the disks.
2. Universal owns the rights to it, which means no copyright violations to worry about.
3. I think that we Munsters fans deserve it, since we don't have very many episodes, so Munster, Go Home! would be an excellent addition!

I do agree with your reasoning, but I think they'd do it separately to have another disk to sell, too. Bottom line is it's all financially motivated. Why should that seemingly change? On the other hand, they may go all out and surprise us all! I'm just trying not to get my hopes up...

Thanks, Munsters#1 for all the screencaptures. They look good. It makes me want to get a DVD player for the computer to get results like these. My method with the digital camera off the TV screen doesn't always produce good results no matter what I do with the settings. An overexposed effect is sometimes a problem.
Looking at the photos makes me regret that this is our only taste of the Munsters in color during its original run. Unless some studio goes ahead and colorizes.....here I go again.

As some of you may or may not know, the first Season of Gilligan's Island is in Black & White. Now, some studios have released colorized versions of a few of Gilligan's Island's early first season episodes. And I must tell you, I was not at all impressed. The colors looked faded, grainy, and very poor. So, I don't think colorizing The Munsters would be a very good idea.

Hey, by the way, would you like to hear the audio from an old Munsters TV commercial? I got this from the A&E Bio. I think...

I also got the theme they used to make that commercial.

I remember seeing those colorized Gilligan's Island episodes, and you're right, the color didn't look that good.
However, Bewitched had its first season colorized. When I first saw one of these colorized episodes, I hadn't known that episodes had been colorized. I thought I was watching an episode from a color season, until I realized Elizabeth Montomery looked like see did in the first couple of seasons.
When I started to recognized which episode I was watching, I then realized that it was a black and white episode that had been colorized. That's how much the technology has advanced.

Karl Silvera who did makeup for Fred Gwynne, said it would have cost an extra $10,000 to film each episode in color. So let's say, Universal colorizes each of the 70 episodes and the two B&W pilots, it would about come to about $720,000.

I'd think that'd be to film each episode in color, not colorize them. I'll bet it costs more than $10,000 per episode to colorize. I kind of think that the only reason Gilligan was colorized was because of Ted Turner. At the time, I believe, he had the rights to GI and had just bought a studio, to boot. (So, hey, let's play...) I think they look really washed out. Especially compared to color GI episodes. (I haven't seen any Bewitched colorized episodes, so I can't comment on those.) Anything I've seen that was colorized looks like somebody colored it with crayons. There are spots that look wrong. Teeth, eyes, anything in shadows and most notably backgrounds all seem to suffer, too. All IMHO!

The Bewitched colorization does seem to be pretty good. I'd have to watch an episode to decide on it though. I watched a few colorized Gilligan episodes. They were just, shall we say, lacking. The colorization was a constant distraction. When it's black & white, you don't even think about it. When it's colorized poorly it's all you think about.

For all of you that complained about the glitches and problems in the Munsters DVD set, please take a few moments and read the Bewitched story on the second link Laugh30 supplied. They left out some Bewitched episodes because they were degraded too much. (We seem to be far luckier than we think we are!)

I think these missing episodes are just for the Japanese DVD release. I can't imagine them actually releasing them in the USA with missing episodes, when clearly there are copies of all of the episodes with intact soundtracks. So, I think we still can complain a little bit :)

Despite recurring requests in the U.S. for the release of both series (Bewitched & I dream of Jeannie) on home video formats, neither had been slate so far. Now, Columbia has finally issued BEWITCHED - exclusively in Japan, in beautiful season by season boxed sets, with restored picture and sound elements. Fans of the series will notice immediately that a few episodes are missing - and the reason is disheartening: As you will notice on a couple of episodes the audio, taken from the magnetic masters made in the sixties, is severely affected by the degradation of the magnetic particles on the plastic tape.

That's sad! In my opinion, if an original master is severely damaged like those were, I would look for a full length syndication copy somewhere and put it on the DVD.

PS. I didn't know Bewitched was video-taped. I thought it was filmed like most shows in the 60's.

I'ts sad to see how age plays havic on classic TV.

I'm glad we have the complete first season of The Munsters. No matter how many little bumps or dots, I'm glad we have all the episodes! :D

Now all we need is The Munsters Second Season released on DVD! With ALL 32 episodes.

I also enclosed a little musical bumper that's in the beginning of "Bronco Bustin' Munster".

Why would they be missing from the Japanese version and not be missing from a US version? Couldn't the Japanese makers just get another copy of the bad episodes from their supplier? At this point there seems to be plans for the show to start coming out on DVD from Sony. There's no mention of colorization, though. Check on: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com.

That's one kick-ass photo you got right there! The colorizing you did on it is excellent! BTW, what ep is that from? It has to be a Beverely Owen episode, because Fred Gwynne's headpiece is a little wider and darker on the edges.

I don't recall which episode. BUT: It started out smaller than the ones I have, so for all I know it may have been one you posted. :) I just saw it in the file. (From the properties, I put it there Jan 18th...)

Great work again.
You got the jacket the right color. I have to try to duplicate it in my next photo. Mostly I've been coloring Herman's suit a bright purple and that's not what I've seen in color photos. You got the color right.
Your choices in the coffin colors are better choices than mine, too.
