I was watching the episode, "Sally and the Lab Technician", and the part where Sally said she couldn't stand herself and then ran out the office crying always makes me feel like crying. :crying: Sally is always so strong, so to see her break down like that is such a rare and heart-breaking thing. :eek:

That was a very early episode and they tempered that somewhat as time went on.

The saddest episode for me also involves Sally, "Romance, Roses and Rye Bread". I rarely watch that episode because I feel so badly for Bert.

That one is sad. So is "Where You Been Fassbinder?" And "Jilting the Jilter." Seems all the sad ones revolve around Sally's love life.

The "saddest" ep. is the very end of "The Life And Love Of Joe Coogan", with Rob reading one of the sonnets written to Laura by "Father Joe". The excellent melancholy music added to that scene is also very effective.

That show has one of the best combination "tender, moving, sad, and yet still funny" lines of dialogue ever written for a TV show (and it's a credit to Carl Reiner's genius -- Reiner, alone, is credited for writing the "Joe Coogan" episode)................

I agree with all the above and add one more. The episode " Never name a Duck". & The scene where Rob talks to Ritchie and tells him that the love him much more than they could ever love a duck :ducky:

I get more annoyed than sad when I see the "Sally can't get a guy" episodes. I feel like shaking her and saying, wake up! I love romance and believe in committed relationships that last a lifetime...but a single woman can be happy and fulfilled on her own, too! And of course, so can guys. A great relationship is a wonderful thing, but if you don't find that love of a lifetime, that's okay, too. And Sally had it all going for her...she was tough and smart and pretty and accomplished and outgoing. I found myself sorry that she eventually married Herman.
